âO-Oh, an Alola to you! Whatâs a Pokedex?â
At the sudden voice, Zossie would hurriedly turn around and perform the traditional Alolan greeting, albeit a more rectangular version, on instinct. Sudden voices and touches were the norm in Ultra Megalopolis, where practically everybody knew one another, but experiencing it in a foreign world was unexpected, to say the least.
âWoah! Itâs pretty!â
Still, a smile would quickly replace her look of confusion as she reached out for the red device, gently tugging the screen towards herself to get a better look. Wearing the protective visor did shield her sensitive eyes from the harsh rays of the Alolan sun, but it did tend to make everything, well, darker. So much so that the girlâs eyes would be drawn to the vibrant red (a rare sight!) of the device before anything else, before her gaze settled on the screen. Was a Pokedex another word for camera, she wondered.
Huh. The image quality wasnât all that good, but she could make out a few details. Letâs seeâŠ.white in colour, many limbs, oh hey that frill does look famili-
âThat- Thatâs a - Hey mister, where did you see this Nihilego?!â
The photo, although blurry, was unmistakably, unmistakably one of the more troublesome Ultra Beasts. Not very intelligent, nor dangerous when alone. But if it had managed to infect the local fauna then time was of the essence. Pulling herself away from the image, Zossie moved her attention towards the Trainer, as she tapped a button on the Aura Reader mounted on her left wrist.
âAre you good at battling, mister?â Zossie asked, speaking very quickly. âNihilego is not from here, it needs to be captured immediately before it can harm anyone or itself!â
âA PokĂ©Dex registers PokĂ©mon and gives you informaition on one. Like a digital field guide. You mean to tell me youâve never seen one?â Kakios just stared at the other for a moment and sighed. âI can battle better than most,â Kakios replied, tugging his PokĂ©Dev back and shoving it away in a pocket. âOr at least enough to make enough of a living off of it.â So this person recognized the creature? And it was... what a Ni-... Nihilego? He was going to forget that one for sure.  âWhy, is it strong?â The idea of a strong opponent, regardless of if it was Wild or not, got his blood pumping.  âI saw it at the cape about a half-hour back. Though if it was something strong, I should have just had at it.â He was regretting not taking the initiative now. The creature hadnât seen him, but maybe if it had a proper fight would have ensued. Should he have Valefor fly him back? Hmm... But she was getting a bit fed up. Barbaros wasnât much of an option either because Kakios refused to show him off outside of a League battle. Then a though recurred to him.
âI can take you there, but Iâd still very much appreciate knowing why this beast wonât log itself in my PokĂ©Dex.â He was irritated about that a little, which made his eager countenance seem more villainous than usual, something he wasnât conscious enough of to correct.  âI like to know my opponents as best I can, after all.â The idea of a battle with an unknown entity was exciting to him, but going into battle without any knowledge of what to expect would be rude to his Team. If there was a way to do things without putting them at unnecessary risk, then he preferred that.
