Announcing the Theme for Hermitzine #9: ABCs!

For the ninth issue of Hermitzine, “H is for Hermitcraft” Edition: A is for Alphabet, B is for Book (with pictures!), and C is for Contributor applications opening March 2nd!

This time, the Hermitzine team is taking inspiration from the inventive, colorful and often surprising world of picture book art to go on a whimsical journey across Hermitcraft, from A to Z.

If you join us for the ride as a contributor, you’ll be teamed up in a group of several artists and one writer (this may vary a little depending on circumstances). Your team will be assigned a letter of the alphabet, and as a team, you’ll create a section of the zine for that letter, between 1 to 5 double page spreads.

You’ll need to work together to create a fun and cohesive section for your letter, but the shape that takes? That’s up to you. Want to work on individual pieces that go well together? Go for it! Want to all team up on a single, multi-page writing and illustration work that takes up the entire section? Go ahead!

This edition is about playfulness, having fun, and going on an adventure, so we’re very excited to see what people come up with.

To help our alphabet teams get started, we’ll be gathering prompt suggestions from the community, so keep an eye out for a link to the prompt suggestion form. Stay tuned for applications opening March 2nd!

Get ready to jam, because Hermitzine #8 is about music - the hard work and creativity involved in making it, the moods and memories evoked by listening to it and the images and ideas a song has the power to evoke. Works can be in the form of illustrations, short written pieces and short comics (since we haven’t figured out how to jam sounds onto a book just yet).

Applications open midnight Saturday (GMT) July 15th and will be open for two weeks until midnight (GMT) July 29th.

We're looking to accept some new members onto our moderation team, as we've recently said goodbye to some team members. Hermitzine is run by a small team of organizers who curate, manage and edit each edition from start to finish, making sure the zine process flows as smoothly as possible.

The form goes into more detail, but we’re particularly keen to bring in some writing expertise, participant communication and social media focused team members.

We’re after people who are enthusiastic about zines and ideally have some experience with either mass collaboration and/or being a mod/organizer.

If you’re interested or even just curious, please check out the application form. It’ll be open for two weeks and close on 17 June at Midnight GMT.
