immediately after slumping into the little chair, kousei contented himself with examining the table. his mind had immediately jumped to the worst possible scenario if he kept his head up - accidental eye contact with a stranger, who would find it offensive for a reason kousei couldnāt fathom, and then he would be attacked, or something, and die an awful death right here on the street, even before he got the chance to try the dish heād ordered. the more logical parts of him knew that this sort of thing happening to him was next to impossible, but he was not in the mood for it no matter how unlikely, so he kept his eyes on the tableās smooth but slightly stained surface.
kousei brought a hand up to rub at his eyes, feeling suddenly uncomfortable. watched, almost.Ā

there was a plate of barely-eaten kimbap across the table. a steaming cup of tea. a pair of hands.
he looked up, slowly, finding himself face to face with a girl. she looked young, but in the big-eyed kind of way that made her age hard to guess. there was a determination in her face that was a little intimidating.Ā
she was speaking to him.
he took what she said as quickly as he could, mind going from korean to japanese and back again. there was a word at the end there he didnt really know, but he got the general gist of her question. āuh,ā he began, then faltered, not finding the right words.Ā āiāve only been here, um, korea, for three weeks?ā in case he was saying the words wrong, he held up three of his fingers, holding that hand with his other, and said in his japanese,Ā āthree weeks.ā at the very least that should get the point across.
