The signs in the background say "Republicans kill me," "Murderer" or "Murdered" [partially obscured], and "Genocidal / Obnoxious /..." [obscured but presumably it starts with "P"].

The coffin is centered in the foreground of the photo. A man with tanned/light skin and short dark hair and mustache is holding it over his head at arms' length. It's almost twice as wide as his shoulders and probably about 7 feet long, but he's holding it easily, as if it's light. He appears to be wearing a white tank top and has black backpack straps on his shoulders.

The coffin is painted black and has messages on every face. The top says "AIDS action now" with a pink triangle [this is a black and white photo but historically this symbol is a pink triangle]. The front has a large and detailed grinning skull whose eyes are two black circles containing the ACT UP slogan, with a pink triangle: "Silence = Death," and there is a matching circle in the middle of the forehead. The longer side, facing the camera, says "We're here, we're queer, we hate the fucking president!"
