Just being a person

listen ok imagine you're wandering in the woods at night and it's completely silent, not even the sound of nocturnal critters or insects buzzing. then you hear what sounds like a radio flipping through stations in the distance. you think at first it's another person out here, so you follow the sound. you step into a big clearing and realize the radio is coming from way up up high, from some kind of big blocky metal looking structure and you call out, expecting someone to be up top with the radio.

and then the whole damn thing moves, it has limbs, it hunches down, far too quietly for something of its size, and there are two giant lights shining down on you. a pair of eyes, you realize.

it makes a kind of buzzing, clicking electronic sound and something at its midsection hinges open?? and in the moonlight, craning your neck up, you can only see dark shapeless masses crawling out of it, one pair of glowing eyes after another, all staring down at you, clicking and hissing and whirring. one of them makes some beeping sounds, like something you'd hear from star wars, and stares unmoving at you as if it expects a response.

the biggest one (the mother????) tilts its...head?? horns canting to the side, then the radio clicks back on, cycling through channels too quickly for you to make out any full words. then it makes a noise that sounds awfully like a person clearing their throat.
