𝐀𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫:

For Alastor, I like the idea of him being friends with the person who is trying to capture him— or, the closest thing Alastor could really have to a friend.

You take on a case about a serial killer in the area and you’re eager to investigate, both to prove yourself and to put a stop to the deaths. Women were very rarely given to have such an occupation in the 30’s and solving something like this with hardly any leads would be such a milestone.

You and Alastor are not especially close, but you’ve definitely met and interacted with him before. Ironically enough, you find him intriguing. I’m not sure if this still is true, but I remember in the pilot era Alastor was often described as a gentleman who respects women far more than men, and I imagine this holds up.

He has never made you feel inferior for being a woman, nor has he ever implied to you that you cannot do your job. Alastor is very respectful towards you and gives you no reason to question him whatsoever.

You go insane trying to decipher this case, not knowing that the very man committing these crimes is right under your nose and finding your failure wildly amusing.

Alastor believes he’s too smart to ever be caught, which in all honesty is sort of true. Who would suspect the charming, popular radio host to be a murderer?

He sees newspaper articles published about someone investing his crimes, and he’s very prepared to just get the inconvenience out of the way.

That is, until he realizes it is you.

While Alastor will never see anyone higher than himself, he admires you greatly. He understands the difficulties you face and acknowledges your strengths and the effort you’ve put in to get to where you are. I feel like as a mixed man in the 20’s he would be able to understand to a slight extent, although racism and misogyny are two separate problems.

That being said, he still doesn’t believe you will ever catch him at all; however, he will let you live. He enjoys watching you try your best to keep up with him and gets a strange feeling of enjoyment every time you come close. You’re always right on his trail yet just far enough for him to be in the clear. It gives him a sense of entertainment that he never knew he needed, and he even finds himself infatuated with you in an odd sort of way.

You’ve become a very core piece in his life and he doesn’t want you to stop any time soon. Every time he sees you he ironically wishes you luck in your endeavors, and he partially does mean it. It’s no fun if you’re completely off. Alastor likes the thrill he gets when you’re close to catching him, but not close enough to ruin his fun.

He might even try to get closer to you personally afterward, getting a sick sense of amusement knowing that you’re unknowingly spending so much time with the very man you want behind bars. That and he just genuinely enjoys your company, but he doesn’t want to admit that.

I could see him planting evidence for you as well, eager to see what you would do with it. He even sometimes stalks you while you’re investigating, entertaining himself with your displeasure.

He’s very irritated when you meet your end. Part of the fun of committing his crimes was tied to your little game, and while he’s not going to stop just because of you, he does so with a little less enthusiasm. He’s also kind of sad that you’re gone and he cannot spend time with you any more but he ignores that feeling as well.

He reminisces about you often both in life and when he eventually falls to Hell. Many other people take up the case after your passing, but none live long enough to make an impression. He’s quick to dispose of them. None of them give him the same thrill as you did.

You yourself are also in Hell, growing accustomed to the environment, when you hear rumors of a new overlord rising up the ranks by the name of Alastor. You’re a little bit surprised, but don’t think much of it at first.

But when you finally see him, you’re completely caught off guard, realizing just how much went under your nose. You’re bitter, both from being manipulated and failing to solve what would have been your greatest accomplishment before your life was stolen from you. How dare he.

You avoid him and any mentions of him, until decades later you end up seeking redemption at the ‘Hazbin Hotel,’ and are finally forced to confront ghosts of your past.

𝐕𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭 “𝐕𝐨𝐱” 𝐖𝐡𝐢𝐭𝐭𝐦𝐚𝐧:

I imagine a situation like this with Vincent would be slightly different. Throughout watching the whole Brighter sequence, the only thing I could think was ‘how the actual hell is this guy just casually getting away with all of this?’ I know a large part of Vox’s character is his ability to manipulate the masses, but I just feel like most people with common sense would be able to notice the pattern of important people in the entertainment industry dying except for Vincent, who is magically taking all of these people’s places almost as soon as they pass.

The only explanation I can think of is just that he’s too privileged for anyone to do anything about it. He seems to be an allegory for people like Elon Musk and Donald Trump, and while many people recognize how horrible these people are, a large chunk don’t, or do and don’t care, which allows them to stay in power.

Political rant aside, I can see you totally knowing that Vincent is the culprit of all of these ‘sudden deaths,’ but no one believes you due to you being a woman and him being… well, a powerful rich white man in the 60’s.

He’s totally smug about it, taunting you and even threatening you if you ever get a bit of time alone with him. He’s secretly very scared of being caught though, and sees you as a total nuisance. He doesn’t get enjoyment from being chased like Alastor does, but moreso gets enjoyment from the fact that he’s so powerful you can’t do much to him.

If you ever provide evidence of his actions? Your supervisors barely acknowledge it. Little do you know, he’s buddy-buddy with loads of the people at the police station, and he’s got them completely wrapped around his finger.

He’s not letting someone like you completely ruin the image he’s invented for himself. He stalks you often to make sure you’re not getting any closer, and completely ruins your hard work often.

He finds you infuriating. How dare you be so insistent, so stubborn, and also… attractive.

Yeah, he’s totally down bad for you and in complete denial about it. He would never be interested in someone so annoying, he tries to convince himself; but he very much is, and secretly kind of gets off to your obsession with catching him.

He loves mocking you and making you feel small, and I could see him eventually even ruining your life. He could get you fired from you job, and blast your name in the media for trying to take his empire away from him. He portrays you as a liar and corrupt detective, pushing out as much propaganda as you can.

You settle for a dead end job afterwards, extremely bitter and upset that all of your hard work has gone to waste because of this man.

Eventually, stories come out about him after his death— that he was starting up something close to a cult within the studio, leading to the deaths of both him and various employees of the channel. He electrocuted them all in a manic spiral, and people are now finally acknowledging the corrupt nature of Vincent Whittman.

And who gets credit for this information being brought to light? Not you! In fact, nothing seems to change about your situation. No one acknowledges or apologizes to you, and you don’t even get your job back. You grow even more angry and bitter over the years, resenting both the dead man and the men in power who have failed you in general.

Little do you know when you die and get to Hell, Vincent has grown to perhaps even more power down there, and still regularly thinks about you. He’s changed his name and he’s now cursed with a strange new form, but you recognize the man who ruined your life.

You take on a new identity, planning on taking his company down from the inside.
