On my mind
After the drilling questions of the FBI asking me all about my step-father, I felt more exhausted than usual. I walked back slowly thinking about everything that had just happened in these few hours. He's finally gone from my life, but why do I feel like nothing has changed? I lied to the FBI agents telling them I had a very neighbor I could stay with. Of course they checked them up, but I had given the name of someone I knew before moving to the dorms. I wonder if they'll check in on them? I shrug thinking it wasn't my problem at the moment. When it comes then I'll deal with it, but now I just want to find my mother.Â
I didn't know where I could even start on this whole mission. Do I go to the hospitals and ask for copies of birth certificates? Do I check the orphanage that I once came from? The Foster system? Then, I felt a weird realization dawn onto me. Should I research the village? Maybe, that was the best hope for me. I feel all the orphanages and systems would have false records of me, knowing my father, he would have tampered with the information. I guess the library it is... I sigh not even wanting to step foot in the school yet.Â
I was more afraid of Aurora than anything or anyone else. I didn't want to bring her into a life that was difficult. But, even with all my nerves and anxieties, I made my way into the library without anyone realizing I was back. Yet.Â
I'm sure someone will find me eventually...Â
I grab as many books as I could on every rural village in China, which was too many to carry all at once. I even got a laptop from the front desk to start my research. This will be a long night...
Head to head with my Step Father
I storm off angry with Merida's snark comment toward me when I began to walk away. Of course I said goodbye to Aurora! I huffed my frustration beginning to run off the campus grounds and into the woods. A trail I had followed back and forth from my Father's hideout to the school. How dare she bring this personal situation up in front of that girl, Anna.Â
It took me hours to finally arrive at the hideout. The overgrowth of the vegetation around the massive cabin became excessive obviously signifying that Father didn't stay here as often as before. I stood in my spot staring at the cabin, noticing the glare of the sunset shining off the tinted windows. Now or never, Mulan. I walk up to the cabin knocking on the door until I hear a groggy voice ask, "Are you needing some wood?"
"Just the red wood for now." I reply knowing that was the secret saying to be able to have the door open. The door creeks open and I see men in suits scattered chatting around uncaring that I have arrived. I looked around for a moment until I saw my Step Father enjoying himself around the company of strangers mostly women. I rush through the crowd coming up to him until he spots me and shoos away the women like pets. Disgusting.Â
I had never enjoyed the company of these women, especially because how my Father treated them, but I could never say anything. "You came just in time. We were celebrating your--"
"Who is she?" I ask cutting him off. That had been a first. His eyebrow twitches, but he keeps his smile
.
"Who, Dear?" Dear? Just because you're men are around? Â Pathetic piece of--
"My mother." I snap knowing he had to know who I was referring to.
"You don't have a--"
"I remember my village, out in the rural areas of China. Don't play dumb with me." I sneer tired of his lies. He had been lying to me for years and now I was fed up and angry. He slowly rises from his chair and stretches his tired limbs
.Â
"This is how you repay me after getting you out of jail?" He quietly asks trying to keep his temper in check. This was the opportunity I had been waiting for. He wouldn't hit me here, not in front of all these people. This was my chance.
"Getting me out of jail because of your charges?!" I scream wanting everyone to hear us. "You fled the scene where you partook in murdering those people!" Everyone hushed and looked over to where Father and I stood, conversing. He looked around nervously with a forced smile trying to keep his composure. I smirked knowing he had nowhere to hide now. "You stole me from my Mother, and now I want to see her! You're no Father to me!" I yell turning on my heel shaking with pure rage.Â
I noticed a man or two strangely looking toward my Father's way, particularity staring at him with interest. Before I knew it, screaming ensued and everyone was down on the floor, even my Father. People in black busted down the doors with guns and began yelling, "Everyone down! This is the FBI!" I stood relieved and in shock. Did I lead these people to my Father?! I couldn't believe it. He was actually going down.Â
A female FBI agent came up to me wearing avatars to hide her eyes, but flashed a smile and told me, "Good job, Kid. If it wasn't for you getting released that easily in jail, we could have never caught him."
She was about to walk off to watch the rest of the crowd get handcuffed, but I asked her, "H-how long have you been searching for him?"Â
"19 years." She replies leaving my presence.Â
I leave without another word, or glance to anyone around. I didn't care who had gotten arrested or not, but the one person I did stick around to see leave was my Step Father. I watched as he was escorted into a black van, but before he stepped in he glanced at me, for once with sadness. I turned away not wanting his sorrow and guilt to get to me. But I did wonder, Was this the right thing to do?Â

Merida looks at me, and I feel a very big tension in the air. I nervously tuck a strand of hair behind my ear and glance from her to Mulan and back again. I gulp. They both stare at me, Merida with an expectant smile, and Mulan with pleading in her eyes. “Um..” I stutter, “Sure, yeah, the more the merrier!” God I hope that was the right thing to say.Â
I glare at Merida knowing now she was trying to keep me from leaving. "I actually already ate." I say stuttering my words beginning to walk away. "It was nice to meet you, Anna." I flash a smile toward her before leaving them. Just keep walking.Â
The regular student
I didn’t know they knew each other, but then again Mulan just said she knew a lot of people here… I smile and greet Merida. “Yeah we actually bumped into each other just now! I seem to have a knack for running into people.” I laugh and wait for the other two to say something or join in with my laughter, but then I just notice both girls staring intently at one another, not saying a word. My giggles slowly subside awkwardly and I look at both of them with confusion and worry. Did I miss something?
I stare at Merida, a bit annoyed with her trying to keep me in the hallways longer. "Hey..." I mutter. I didn't want Merida, or even Aurora, to start following me. Mostly, because I probably would get into more trouble and bound to see danger along the way. My father was a powerful man, with powerful people around him. Especially, if they had gotten me out of jail so easily and had murder charged dropped. "I, uhm, have to go anyways, soo--" Â

She asks for my name and I hold out my hand for her to shake. “I’m Anna, first day here! Your name is really pretty.” I add, sounding as friendly as possible. I couldn’t risk passing any opportunity to make friends!Â
I shake her hand trying to put on a smile, hoping I could easily escape now. "Anna," I say nodding remembering her name now. I blush at her comment and say thank you, but now as I try to ease away from her I see the person I was avoiding come along down the hall. Of course. It was Merida.Â
The regular student
She asks me if I’m new, and I am a bit surprised. Am I that obvious? Either I need to act more like I belong here, or this girl knows the entire student body. ”I am actually.” I state. “How did you know?”Â
"I just know most of the students here, that's all." I say trying to show that she wasn't acting out of place or anything of that sort. I glance around hoping Aurora or Merida wouldn't spot me, just so I could escape easily. I doubt she has met them. "What's your name by the way? I'm Mulan." I say a bit nervously, trying to speed the conversation up without sounding rude.Â
The regular student
I am here for one day and I already have managed to crash with two people! I look up from my phone to see who I collided with. “OMG I’m so sorry I wasn’t looking where I was going!” I immediately apologize.Â
The girl tells me she was sorry, but in more of a panic than anything. "No, no it's okay." I say looking her up asking her, "By the way, are you new?" I ask wanting to know who she was. Why have I been seeing new students more often?Â
The regular student
She tells me she will let me in but not now. Please Mulan don’t do this again. Before I can say anything else she is out the door and I find myself alone. “Why does she keep doing this to me?” I say outloud before flopping down on the bed.
I leave the room silently, trying not to turn around to go back to Aurora. It was hard enough to ignore her, because she did nothing other than care for me. But, It would be harder, and more dangerous if she knew where I was going, and who I was going to meet. My damn father. Suddenly, as I rush into the hallway, I unexpectedly run into someone. "Shi--sorry!" I say looking up to who I accidentally crashed into, rather harshly I may add.Â
It was a someone I haven't seen around, let alone knew. She was tall and slender, and had dirty blonde hair to accompany her emerald eyes. Â
The regular student
She tells me she is going somewhere and that she can’t say anymore than that. “Why are you doing this again? Please tell me.” I try and plead with her. “Please don’t shut me out. I’m here for you. But you won’t let me in.” I tell her hoping she might open up.
I watch Aurora plead for me to open myself up. I bite my lip knowing I have to let someone into my life eventually. I sigh looking away from Aurora, "I'll let you in...but not now. I promise, when all of this is over." I say tempted to grasp her hands and pull her close. I wanted so badly to let her in, but if I do, there was no way out. "I'll be back soon." I say leaving Aurora in the dorm walking away from her again.Â

A few moments later I hear the door open and Mulan walks in. I smile but its as if she looks right past me. “Mulan. How did you get out?” I begin to ask her questions but she ignores me. No she is no doing this to me again. I notice she is packing a bag. “Are you leaving again?” I say but she still ignores me. I get up and make her look at me. “You are not ignoring me again.” I say rather harshly.
Aurora grabs a hold of me and makes me loo at her. I see the immense worry in her eyes as she tells me I will not ignore her this time. I feel my heart beginning to slowly wilt away. I can't lead her down a path that's difficult. "I'm going somewhere, but I can't say any more." I simply tell her trying to keep my cold countenance strong. I focus on her, and only her, seeing her eyes slightly widen and her lips part from the worry I was putting upon her. I suddenly think back at our kiss, knowing it was something more than just a kiss from my nerves. It clung to me deeper, and I badly wanted to kiss her again. To taste all of her, but the back of my mind and heart tugged me away from the feeling.Â

I answer the question with some help from Meg. “Professor. I am not feeling to well may I be excused. ” Archie looks at me full of concern. “Is everything all right.” He asks. “I fell and injured my leg pretty badly last night. ” I tell him. He nods and lets me go. I head back to the dorm slowly and lay down. Noticing a melted bag of ice on my desk. Merdia must have come back. I smile at her thoughtfulness.
I rush to the dorms without saying a word to Tink. Only telling her I'll see her tomorrow. I open the door and feel my heart drop seeing who was laying on the bed beside mine. I see Aurora look up at me a smile coming across her lips, she waited for me to address her, but coldly I go to my drawer taking clothes out and stuffing them in my empty bag. Aurora calls for me again, but I ignore her. Mulan, you shouldn't have dragged her into this, especially with these emotions.Â
The regular student
I sit through the lecture and my mind wanders to Mulan kissing me. We have kissed before but this was different.  She told me she likes me, and I like her to. I’m pulled from my thoughts when Meg calls my name. “What happened?” I blurt out . Professor Archie  looks at me and shakes his head. “Miss Aurora would you care to answer the question on the board.” I curse internally. I should have paid attention I don’t know what I’m doing.
The lecture becomes boring and my thoughts wander off to other things that were always clouding my mind now. I wonder if Father is hiding out of the country? Or if he went to his 'safe house' in the next town? But another thought did cross my mind, this time it wasn't Aurora. It was of my mother. What if somehow...I could find her? I could have a family again... Suddenly, the professor calls on me to answer a question. "What would that though be, Mulan?" I look up at the board to see the lecture notes and the summary of a culture. I quickly answer the question with confidence knowing my material and wander back to my thoughts.Â
If I can find Father and end it once and for all that means I can see my Mother. The haunting thought that kept me from ever asking about my mother before to my Step-Father wasn't from not knowing who she was, but because I couldn't remember her. Her voice nor her face. That's what scares me...Â
Lecture finally got out and I rushed to the dorms knowing if I hurried, I could intentionally avoid Aurora. It hurt me to do so, but I didn't want to see her after what had happened.Â

The light shining through my window wake me. I look around for Merida but cannot find her. I notice a note saying she went out to get ice. I look at the time and realize I need to go to class. I get up slowly to see I can walk on my own. It hurts for a bit I can walk.
I arrive to the math building and I catch a glimpse of Mulan walking into a classroom. Mulan she’s out of jail. I call out to her but she doesn’t here me.
I walk into my next class, it being Philosophy, I try to find a seat in the back of the lecture hall. I sit down to hear someone greet me. "Hey Mulan, it's been awhile huh?" I look over seeing it was a fellow student of mine, Tink. "Hey, Tink." I smile back. She begins to talk with me about the past lectures, but I honestly wasn't listening. I was thinking if I should have stop by the dorm room to say hello to Aurora. I remembered the kiss we shared, the one that I boldly initiated. Maybe, I shouldn't have kissed her? It was all complicated and confusing, now with my Step-Father 's true character made it even more hazy to think about. I sigh listening to Tink talk now. Â

The regular student
I had given up on searching for my Father. Only because he had vanished after the chaotic fight had been shut down by the police. But it still bothered me that he still bailed me out.
I had returned to campus, just heading to my classes before stopping in my dorm. I didn’t care if I didn’t have my notes with me, I still wanted to show I was serious with my studies. I said hi to those who hadn’t seen me the past few days, even tried to talk with my professors on catching up in class. Just to show that I was a regular student again.
The Next Morning: Still in the Police Station
I awake from a voice calling toward me; rather loudly. I dart my eyes open to see a blurry image of someone standing cross-armed in front of the jail cell I was staying in. I get up from the uncomfortable bed, that felt like sleeping on rocks, to see Emma watching me. "You got your bail, and all charges dropped..." Emma says sighing to the unusual situation she was put in. She opens the cell door letting me leave saying to me, but more to herself, "This doesn't feel right," I watch her as I slowly step out telling her, "Thanks."
"Yeah, I'l be having my eyes on you though." She says seriously, no hint of jokes.
Now, for my Father.
