Newsflash! Dying sucks, and I'm so not doing that again.

Yellow eyes? What - that’s not - she blinked - then her eyes flashed green, her pupils turning to slits. It only lasted for a moment, as she got an empathy hit off of the boy standing in front of her. Confusion. Her claws disappeared back into her normal nails. She didn’t get Empathy Hits off Mai. Even traitorous ones. Zane was a Mai. This person wasn’t a Mai. But he looked identical to Zane. She took a step backwards. He wasn’t Mai, but he was something. Jackal? “You’re not Zane -” how could he look like him so much? “You look exactly like him.” the girl shook her head. Figures she’d move to a city that has the doppelganger of a dead assassin, who is possibly a Jackal, or something else. Which she just obviously revealed she was Mai. At least he wasn’t a human. That would’ve been even more awkward.

“You killed Valentina.” Nearly killed Jasmine. But she doubted that he would need the reminder. How did the Order manage to send an Assassin out here? Let alone one that was supposed to be dead. How did they know - ? But his confusion has her confused - and he hasn’t tried to kill her, just extent his claws (were those Mai claws? of course they had to be. they looked different but Zane was a Mai, so those were Mai claws.) and - Isaac? Did he have amnesia or something? “Why are you here?”

“Zane?!” Of all the people Chloe had been expecting - Zane was not one of them. For very good reasons. She took a step backwards, not wanting to be anywhere near him - and her fingernails extent into claws. “How on earth are you here?!”

Starting at a new school wasn’t really something Chloe had been looking to do. Or was moving away from San Francisco - but at least this way it keeps her mother safe. And it’s not like she can’t take a drive to SanFran to see her friends and Pride. Chloe sighed, and shut her locker, books clutched to her chest as she started to try and make her way to her next class.

She’s going to be late, Chloe just knew it. It was like her default state was ‘late’ no matter how hard she tried otherwise. She navigated the street, passing by people, until she - and the other person - both moved in the same direction, and Chloe hit his shoulder with hers - unfortunately hard. She took in a sharp intake of breath as a wave of intense emotion hit her, originating from him.         “Are you OK??”
