NOTE: this is NOT 100% accurate to what daily routines nfl players and work personnel have. it's purely just for fictional purposes:)
Beep...beep...beep...
You opened your eyes and let out a groan. Unfortunately, your short break from work was over. You rolled over in your bed, huffing out a sigh as you turned your alarm clock off. You got up from your laying position and sat up, stretching out your tired limbs. Why does 8am come so quick? Your daily work schedule usually consists of you getting up and around at 8 o’clock, so you can be at Kettering Health Practice Fields at Paycor by 9:45. Once you get to the stadium, you always greet some players and coaches before they head off to their next meetings. Then, you go to your office and work on anything you need to catch up on or any new work Coach Taylor gives you. Such as status updates, posting team pictures, event updates on the team website, Instagram stories, you name it. Then once noon rolls around, you head out to the main practice field outside or over to the indoor facility. It all depends on where Zac wants practice to be held that day. At practice, you take pictures of players, coaches, the stadium, etc. As you observe practice, you make notes of what to put on social media. Sometimes you’ll even post updates about how injured players are recovering, and how they're handling practice. Your job is pretty simple, but some days it can be quite exhausting. As exhausting as it can be sometimes, you do love your job very much.
As you stood up from your bed, a wave of nausea suddenly came over you. Uh oh. Stomach churning, you sprinted to the bathroom and threw yourself down on the floor and hovered over the toilet. You swore you threw up everything that could have possibly been in your digestive system. You picked your head up from inside the porcelain bowl and wiped your mouth. You groaned, feeling your stomach turn once again and your mouth fill with saliva. You pulled your hair back and retched into the toilet again. It must've been that chicken wrap you had last night.
After about a good 20 minutes of on and off vomiting, you finally felt well enough to shower. As you showered your stomach still felt a bit sour. You contemplated about wether or not to call in sick to work, but you decided to just suck it up. After all, you were beginning to feel better, a lot better. Which was very odd, considering how sick you were when you first woke up, but you didn't really think anything about it. After drying off, you put on your outfit for the day. Satisfied with your outfit, you made your way out to the kitchen to get yourself some coffee. You pulled out your favorite Cincinnati Bengals tumbler out from the cabinet above the sink as you let the coffee brew. As you poured the steaming hot liquid into the thermos, your stomach turned at the smell. You placed a hand on your stomach, grimacing at both the smell and the churning in your stomach. You took the full coffee cup and placed it into your fridge, knowing you wouldn't be able to keep it down if you drank it now. Trying to ease the sour feeling in your stomach, you decided to eat a piece of toast. Luckily, you were able to keep it down...for now.
~time skip~
You pulled into the parking lot of Paycor stadium, and parked your car. After you parked your car, you moved your hands up to fix your hair before entering the building. Your arms were lightly pressed up against your chest, and as they sat there, you noticed your boobs were super sore from the pressure of your arms. Sore boobs, throwing up, being turned off by the smell of coffee could only mean one thing: your period is coming soon. These were symptoms you would experience every once in a while before your period neared.
You opened your car door and made your way into the facility. You walked through a couple halls, and neared your office. You walked passed a door and saw Ja’Marr sitting on an examination table. You knocked on the door and poked your head in.
"Hey Ja’Marr,” you smiled as you waved at him.
His eyes lit up, "Y/n, good morning.”
“Good morning!” you greeted enthusiastically, “how's the hip?"
He shrugged, lifting his leg slightly. "Eh, it’s been better. Should be able to practice today.”
You nodded, "Good. Playoff ready?”
Ja’Marr chuckled, "Hell yeah.”
“You guys got this. You’ve Super Bowl contenders for sure." You smiled, nodding.
Ja’Marr leaned over and high fived you, "Damn straight we are."
You giggled, gripping his hand. "Well, I’ll see you out at practice. I have some work to catch up on."
"Bye Y/n, see you out on the field."
You waved and shut the door behind you as you left. You made your way a little further down the hall and stopped at the door that read: Y/n Hubbard SM Manager.
You opened the door and dropped your purse on the desk. You plopped down on the office chair and sighed heavily. You turned on your MacBook and began to type in some injured reserve player reports, as well as website updates.
Knock Knock
"Come in!" You yelled, eyes still peeled to your computer.
"Mornin' Y/n! I brought you some coffee." you looked up from your screen, eyes falling on Zac who standing over your desk with a cup of coffee.
Smiling, you took the cup from him. "Thank you, Coach."
As soon as you grabbed the cup, your stomach turned at the thought of drinking coffee once again. Coffee is one of your favorite things in the whole world, literally. But now? It was one of the worst smells you could be around.
"No problem,” he smiled as he leaned against your desk, “do you have those profiles updated with the information that Sam gave you before the holidays?"
You nodded, "Yes sir."
Zac picked up a file, flipping through it and nodding in approval, “Good girl..."
Your eyes widened. Did you hear that right? “E-excuse me?" you asked nervously.
Zac put the file down, "I said, good job."
"Oh.." you cleared your throat, "Thank you! It was super quick and easy to do, so yeah…” you trailed off, still unsure with what you heard come out of Zac’s mouth. Either you were just hearing things, or Zac really did say "good girl" and he was just trying to cover it up. You know it’s safe to assume you were just hearing things.
"Oh also,” he spoke, clearing his throat in the process, “I thought I’d let you know practice is out on the practice field today."
You nodded, “Great, thanks for letting me know."
Zac smiled, "Of course. Make sure you get lots of pictures and post them on instagram, please.“
You typed a list in your computer notes of things you needed to do today, nodding along as Zac spoke, “Got it."
"Awesome. I’ll see you out there soon Miss. Hubbard."
Zac walked out of your office and as soon as the door latches shut, you let out a sigh and leaned back in your chair. You longingly looked at the cup of coffee sitting on your desk. You desperately needed wanted caffeine, but something inside of you warned you not to drink all the caffeine. You’re not sure what it was, just a gut feeling. You always trust your gut. You took one last look at the cup of coffee before grabbing it and getting up from your office chair. You decided to give the coffee to someone else. You figure if you can’t enjoy it, someone else can. You walked down the halls until you saw someone worth stopping.
"Joe!" you yelled, “wait up!"
He stopped walking and turned around, A wide grin making its way onto his face as he saw you standing before him. "Hey, what's up?"
You smiled as you handed him the cup of coffee. "Thought you could use this. I heard you had a pretty busy Christmas, jumping all around Ohio to see family. So, I thought I’d give you this cup of coffee to help make the transition back into football easier."
Joe chuckled, taking the coffee from your hands. "Awe, thanks." he examined the cup before taking a sip, "caramel macchiato, that's my favorite. How’d you know?"
"A little birdie named Zac Taylor might've given it to me because that may or may not be my favorite too." You winked.
Joe frowned, "Why aren't you drinking it then?"
You shrugged, crossing your your arms over your chest. You winced lightly as they pressed against your chest, triggering the boob soreness again.
You shrugged, “My stomach was bothering me this morning, something didn't agree with me when I first woke up. I’m okay now though. I just don't want all that caffeine in my system. Don’t want to feel worse you know?" You explained, trying to ease his worries.
Joe nodded, "Yeah, I know what you mean. I’m glad you're feeling better though. Food poisoning is brutal."
You chuckled, shaking your head, "Ha, tell me about it."
"Hey Burrow! Practice is in ten bud, better get goin’.” Logan Wilson yelled as he was a couple feet away from the two of you.
"Yeah, I’m heading that way now!" Joe yelled back.
You smiled and waved at Logan. He waved back, "Hey Y/n."
“Tell Morgan I said hi.”
Logan nodded, “Yes Ma’am.” He followed a group of players outside towards the practice field. Turning to you, Joe rubbed the back of his neck. "I should get out there, wanna go with me?"
You smiled, deciding to take him up on his offer, “Sure.”
Joe threw the empty coffee cup away in a trash can as the two of you began to walk together. He stopped at the door going out to the practice fields, opening it for the both of you.
You smiled up at him, "Thank you."
He nodded, "No problem."
As soon as the two of you were outside, Zac blew his whistle. Joe put his helmet on and quickly ran over to where the rest of the guys stood, waiting for practice to begin. You walked over to the sidelines and stood next to offensive coordinator, Brian Callahan. He was working with the O-line, going over play calls, strategies, and of course, ways the guys can get better. You pulled out your phone and took a couple pictures of the guys, posting your favorite one on the teams Instagram account captioning it: O-line hard at work! #WHODEY🧡🖤
You moved back and forth between the offense and defense, taking pictures of the guys while they practiced. After taking many pictures of the players, you made your way over to Zac, who was observing Joe and the receivers.
You pulled out your phone once again, getting a few really good pictures of Ja’Marr catching the ball midair. You also got a really good one of Joe and Tee, too. You posted them to the teams Instagram story. Satisfied with your work, you turned your phone off and decided to watch the guys practice. Your eyes intently watched Joe. The way he flawlessly threw the football to his receivers was mesmerizing. As you were watching the guys, you smelled something terrible. You sniffed the air and saw an intern standing next to Zac, eating a sandwich. You suddenly felt another wave of nausea come over you just like it did this morning. You gagged and covered your mouth with your hand.
Zac glanced down at you, "Are you OK?" he asked, chewing his gum as his face scrunched in worry.
You bent over, putting your hands on your thighs and breathing through the nausea. You held your index finger up at him. "Just,” you breathed out, “give me a second..."you said, trying to focus on settling your stomach.
A few seconds later you let out a deep breath. Standing straight up you held a hand over your stomach. "i'm good,” you nodded. Zac placed a hand on your shoulder and squeezed it gently. He pulled it away when you stood straighter. You looked up and immediately noticed Joe. He was staring at you through this helmet, a look of concern taking over his features.
"Something wrong, Burrow!?" Zac shouted, making it a show to throw his hands up in the air.’
Joe shook his head, turning to Zac. "No sir!"
Zac gestured back to the practice field, "Then keep throwing the ball please!" Joe nodded and immediately dropped back to pass the ball.
Zac turned back to you, putting his hands on his hips. His lips forming in a straight line as his forehead wrinkled with worry, “Are you sure you're OK?"
"Yeah, yeah I’m OK,” you said, nodding reassuringly, “Just the thought and smell of food is making me feel sick right now."
He raised an eyebrow.
I’m pretty sure I got food poisoning from my dinner last night." you explained.
Zac nodded, "Okay. Well, if you need to go inside you can. I’ll have Kate work out here.”
You thought about it for a second before answering, "Yeah, I think I will if that's alright?"
"Of course. Being out here isn’t good for you right now if you're sick." he said, gesturing to the field that still had some snow on it.
You nodded, "Yeah, you're probably right."
He smirked, "I’m always right. Now please, go inside and work, Y/n."
"Thanks Coach." you said, waving goodbye to him. Zac waved back and went back to screaming at the guys.
"You dumbass! Use your head, Boyd! Ifthe ball is coming at you, you catch it, you don't dodge it! If you're going to dodge it you might as well play defense, god!” Zac blew his whistle, “Do it again!”
You couldn't help but giggle as you walked away from the scene behind you. You made your way back into the family, heading for your office. As soon as you reached the wooden door, you opened it and made your way over to your desk. You plopped down on your chair and let out a sigh. Younthought about everything that was currently going on with you.
Vomiting, nausea, sore boobs, gagging over foods you usually like, being grossed out by coffee—which you love. What is wrong with you?! You started to think about the what if's, but you ultimately decided that it’s either just you PMSing or it's a stomach bug. Hell, it could even be both! You decided not to worry about it, thinking that hopefully by tomorrow you would feel better and be out of the funk you were in right now. You decided to just eat a granola bar and some strawberries for your lunch today, not wanting to upset your stomach any more than it already was. A couple hours later, you heard a knock at your door.
"Come in!" you called out, leaning back in your chair.
"Hey sis." Sam said, walking into your office.
"Hey Sammy, what can I do for you?" you sweetly asked your older brother. He sat down on the corner of your desk.
"Ew!” you gasped, “get your sweaty ass off of my desk." you said, laughing as he rubbed himself further into your desk.
Sam rolled his eyes and stopped his shimmying, “Nah, I’m good here. My legs feel like jello. Zac really pushed us today."
"That’s good isn't it? I mean, if you guys want to make it to the super bowl again, you gotta push yourselves past your limits sometimes."
Sam nodded, "Yeah, I guess you’re right. But of all days to make us do that much, Taylor picks a fucking monday!?”
You giggled, "Are you shocked? It is Zac after all."
Sam chuckled, "Hey, are you feeling alright? I saw you hunched over outside earlier and I noticed you left practice early.”
For about the fifth time today you said, “Yeah, I’m OK. It’s just food poisoning from last night, I think."
He grimaced and stuck his tongue out in disgust, “Gross."
"I know right?” you scrunched your nose, “but I’ll be fine, I feel much better now."
Sam smiled, "That’s good. Usually food poisoning knocks you out for days."
"Mhm..." you replied, your thoughts beginning to wander. The more you thought about it, the more you began to wonder if it really was food poisoning that you’re experiencing…
There’s no way…I cant be, you thought to yourself.
"What time is it?" Sam asked, folding his arms over his chest. You looked at the time on your computer. "It is four forty-five.”
Sam’s shoulders dropped, a sigh escaping his lips. "Damn it. I have a meeting in five minutes."
"Oh ew." you joked, “I mean, have fun!"
Sam laughed, "Oh, don’t you worry, I will have so much fun."
He got up from the desk. "Well, I’m glad to hear you're feeling better little sis."
You smiled, "Thanks, I’m glad I am too..." you trailedn off, "see you tomorrow, Sam."
"See ya, Y/n/n." With that, Sam hurried out of your office to get to his meeting on time.
After making sure you were in the clear, you picked up your phone and opened your period tracker app.
Late for: five days
Holy shit...
Oh my gosh…
You felt your heart drop to your stomach. You began to feel sick all over again, but this time, it was from something much different. You shut your phone off, and put it in your lap. You covered your mouth and let out a shaky breath. There was no way you were actually pregnant…right?!
After thinking about it, you decided to give it a couple more weeks and see if your period came. Sometimes you were a week and a few days late because of stress or because your body was thrown out of its routine. (Thank you, holidays). You let out a sigh, trying to calm your thoughts down. What’s the worst that could happen? You doubt you’re actually pregnant.
