coming back home from uni during the summer is so weird like home doesn't feel like home anymore, i don't know what to do with myself, my family is foreign to me, i'm not comfortable in my own home???
doing nothing is one of the most noble things a girl can do
making bad art and dressing weirdly and collecting random things and listening to silly music is actually so important

Yes lawd.
All i need for a perfect day.
People who love cold weather are fucking weird. You like to freeze? You like to shiver?? You like when you take a step outside and the air stings your skin???
I donāt think a lot of people understand that no matter how progressive or well-read you are, there are always going to be moments in your life where somebody pushes back against something thatās so culturally ingrained you never even considered it before. And youāll say āHuh, it never occurred to me to challenge this but youāre right,ā and that doesnāt mean you were āmorally toxicā before, it means youāre a non-omniscient human capable of growth.
Also, some preferred terms for things will change and evolve, and terms we prefer now might eventually be considered gauche or even offensive, and that doesnāt mean you were a bigot at the time for using them. It means we evolved as a society and chose new terminology to reflect that change.
Nobody is a fully formed realisation of progressivism that can predict all shifts and modes of thought. The world will always change, and hopefully you will, too

āClose the door. Remove the dust. Stop being who you were, and change into who you are.ā
ā Paulo Coelho
Change is good.
A new house, a different continentāyeah, change is good. The weather here agrees with me. My couch is green, there is a big window in the dining room. It rains a lot and Iām reassured, but my strength is still taking root.
Iām at a point where the place doesnāt feel as new anymore. Iām past the phase of pressing switches and buttons, unsure which light it turns on or off. Drawers and cabinets are settling into the purpose Iāve given them. There is relief, an experience of possibilities without limitsāa kind of freedom I never knew existed beyond letting go of everything Iāve ever known.
These days I keep myself nourished. My new kitchenās bigger. Iām taking my time learning all the new words Iām picking up from the grocery storeāso many new ways to taste fruit and fish. There is an innocence in the way I do not expect anything anymore. I can feel myself in the middle of changing.
Each day I take on my chores. It isnāt hard to get lost in putting up curtains and breaking down boxes. I tossed nearly all my old furniture for a reason. Nothing here reminds me of⦠Well, I was going to say āhomeā but I resist the association with a place Iāve outgrown. Is that flawed of me to deny what I used to be? Iām trying to reinvent myself. If I donāt let me, who will? My wings are still wet. I am not in a position to feel like I know my way. I cannot afford to look back yet. I need time.
Change is good.
Someone who used to be in my life taught me that phrase. She feared it. She feared change but she said it anyway. I told her I like the power in change, in being the reason behind it. I didnāt mind changing. I made it happen all the time with my hands, heavy-handed. But Iām not that way anymore. Instead I just say āchange is goodā hoping I mean it.
Maybe someday itāll be easier to explain, or maybe Iāll reach a point when remembering the story wouldnāt matter as much. How I got here⦠does it matter? It isnāt a failing to say ānever mindā sometimes. I even put up a big mirror for once. I put it up so I can stop running from myself. Iāll let life be good. I wonāt hide my shape. Iāll believe in what Iām capable of. I will fly.
Iāve stopped aiming to find a home. I cannot deny having one while fighting my own shadow. In this second I am here.Ā Not much else matters. This house will be filled with things that remind me Iām alive. Iāll tend my garden, use place mats, revel in how soft fresh laundry feels, light candles, cry in the bathtub, realize mistakes Iāve made while shoveling snowāI bring home to it. In my heart I keep these moving snapshots, lived in and rugged. The images sing without waiting to be seen or heardāthe most precious of treasures.
It is quiet. It is how I want it to be. I do not ask how I compare anymore. I wake up and I breathe. The seasons will change, I know. But in this house, there are corners Iāve begun filling with plants. Iām not alone. Iām not the only one feeling bare and blue.Ā
Change is good.
