The first season of American Horror Story was something not previously attempted on television. Yes, we’ve had scary TV shows and yes, we’ve had shows with shocking twists and writing that bordered on deranged but it wasn’t executed to this degree and it definitely wasn’t as addictive as AHS. Each week we were introduced to a different decade, new people to be suspicious or afraid of, new questions, new angles of Dylan McDermott’s ass (!!!) and for all of this we were grateful. Then they killed off everyone in the finale and we found out that the series would be an anthology. Whatttttt? Brains melted and fans awaited this second, different installment of the series.
And then it arrived. Season two was a macabre tin of potpourri to say the least. It was more like one of those everything you can fit in this plastic bag costs $5 sales that a thrift store might have but it was still television on a bigger scale. An insane asylum led to aliens which gave way to Nazis which gave us the inevitable Anne Frank cameo and it was just A LOT as the kids say. It was however (kinda) redeemed by its production value, ballsiness, and the incredible performances. Jessica Lange, who’s been deservedly rewarded for her roles in this series is a goddess. Period. This woman pushes herself to the limit to bring these characters to life and all at an age when most actresses are little more than a TMZ installment of Memba Them!
