#KDRAMAWOMENSWEEKS 2025     —March 1st - March 31st

HAPPY 10th BIRTHDAY TO KDRAMA WOMEN'S WEEK!!! For its 10th year anniversary, the event is evolving into a month-long celebration and becomes KDRAMAWOMENSWEEKS. We invite you to join us in March for a whole month dedicated to showing our love to our favourite women of Korean drama and film with prompts created by @dramaheroine. We are forever grateful to @digimoo for creating this event with @undergroundkdrama. A massive thank you to those who hosted and organized the event since 2025: @dramaheroine , @gudansoo and @gudongmae.

Join the event by creating visual content (gifs, fanart, edits, etc.) or just talking about your favourite kdrama women inspired by the prompts below. Please tag your posts with #KDRAMAWOMENSWEEKS and/or #kww2025, so they are easier to find, admire, and reblog.

This is all about giving the spotlight to those behind the scenes. A prompt for the increase in dramas both written by women and directed by women, the rise of many female directors, the continued power of the big names, the lesser-known stars, all those behind the camera…

This is all about remembering where we started and our shared decade in Kdramas. A prompt for the female centric kdramas and female characters we have loved over the past decade, maybe our first loves that started it all (2015-2025)...

This is all about giving them recognition and credit. A prompt for the actresses with double-digit smash hits, critical success-makers, those who navigated their way into becoming the headliners, the ones don’t get recognition they deserve

Into the new world

This is all about seeking the goodness out there. A prompt for dramas that highlight issues concerning women and marginalised groups, that give hope and assurance for the future of kdramas and maybe of the world…

kww2018 Day Eight: Writer or Free Day

Let’s hear it for the women who write the women characters we adore! I have a lot of favorites that aren’t represented here, but they’re all heroines who’ve touched me and stayed with me.

Byung Hee was the first drama heroine I fell hard for. I was in my (early) mid-twenties when I first watched her bumbling her way through her career and love life, and she left me with a bittersweet feeling I cherished, because she made me think I’d be okay, even if I didn’t have it all figured out when I was older. Kim Do Woo is one of my favorite writers because she marries wistfulness, longing, and hope together so well, and she always allows her heroines to dream and to find a bit of freedom and joy, even though they don’t adhere to societal expectations of how they “should” look or where they “should” be in their careers.

On days I’m feeling low I remember Na Ji Young saying, “Just do as I have and give up. Don’t expect anything at all.” It reminds me my experiences with dejection, disappointment, alienation, and despair aren’t things I feel just because I’m some unique kind of failure in the world, but emotions that run so deep that an artist like Kwon Hye Ji decided to write a story where they’re addressed and dealt with kindness and hopefulness. Ji Young makes me feel less lonely.

Choi Hee Jin is everything joyful—she’s lively, loves to laugh, and transparent in her thoughts and emotions. But my favorite thing about her is how Song Jae Jong pulled a coup by giving a lighthearted, even ditzy heroine an immense amount of power. Hee Jin can’t fight, she doesn’t run around with a sword or a gun, she isn’t a high-powered attorney or doctor or plutocrat, and she isn’t even that well regarded in her chosen profession. But through the power of her desires she’s able to save a person’s life and re-write history, as well as her own narrative.
