I would like for you to elaborate on junah being a persona protagonist if you don't mind plz
Unsure of what aspect of it you mean so I'll try to get all of them 🤔
So on a plaintext level it's pretty obvious. Second tier Dancer archetype being Persona Master is extremely on the nose, not to mention the part where she pulls out a gun at her head, puts on glasses, then shoots the card (I was hysterical at the animation the first time I saw it it's so on the nose and cringe it warps back to being hilarious).
On a narrative level, think of this from Junah's POV. She was at a school where she gained awareness of and learned to do archetype magic but then... It was closed down by Forden. Her Journey and Education was interrupted and she will not rest until she gets the Journey she is owed.
On a motif level, set pieces and themes in Junah's story moments are active callbacks to Persona. Metaphor in general is peppered with Persona references (I have a long post cooking in the background how Nocturne -> dds/qds -> P3 -> EO -> P5 -> MRF but it's... Well, long) but the concentration of it around Junah is critical. The flower language from p2, the Snow Queen quest of p1, grappling with the inevitability of death of p3, role of art and media in p4 and corruption of institutional power in p5... If you think about it, Rella is another version of Sae. And the butterflies, oh the butterflies...
Persona despite its poppy branding, still heavily uses esoteric nerdy occult themes the same as SMT. It's magic as Edogawa would say. Jungian themes are all over the place and despite this being extremely common knowledge and plaintext, I don't think people really understand what Persona the Game Series means when they throw around Jungian terms. Persona the Game Series means it as in literal theatre. A Persona is a Role you Play in the Game. And it's not subtle about it! P1 had the Snow Queen quest wherein you collect pieces of an opera mask that possesses the actor that wears it. P2 had the characters literally forced to fill the required roles of a ritual. P3 had elements of both (collect pieces of Nyx and accidentally fulfill the apocalyptic ritual) but due to how successful their weird little experiment with classic Greek theatre and social sims was AND Index corp going into bankruptcy at the time (2008 amirite) that ended up spawning P4 and it's spin offs... (That often ended up being more P3 lore expansion while the P4 characters stand awkwardly on the side... honestly imo P4 and P5 should be considered P3 expansion and spin-offs but I digress)...
So on a meta narrative level just like Junah and the Mage Academy, it kind of got interrupted, sent on a bunch of side quests. But it's back, baby. It's Theatre. P5 is all about theatrics and costume changes and designed set pieces. Comedia del arte, opera, kabuki, noh, broadway, noir, film, tv, genre media... Persona has always been about theatre kids, and how roleplaying is an outlet for kids and teenagers to process complex emotions and situations they've never experienced before. Maki P1 dreamt up little plays so she can deal with her situation and years later we are still here. The core of the series stands, it's Kids Processing Trauma Through Roleplay. This is why these games center teenagers, it's just an extremely emotionally volatile time when they are trying to figure out how to navigate their societal role coming into the adult world.
(Specifically... Tokusatsu-like formats like superhero and magical girl genre media where you have a cool secret power.)
And Junah in MRF is the embodiment of theatre. Her follower ranks and relationships with the other characters and Euchronians are all about how art and theatre can help people through tough times.
But Junah as a specifically Newsona/Post P3 Persona Main Character because the actual requirements of a Post P3 Main Character are not "generic wildcard guy" because don't you dare forget Hamuko or call the Jokerrrrr generic:
1. Extremely socially adept, which Junah is the master of. Gauging people's reactions and knowing the right things to say, playing Louis's faction and Sanctists AND the Will crew all at once...
2. Functionally flexible, which her archetypes are specifically made to be. It's got everything in ONE archetype. She can probably be passably decent at any role, as the strategist, coordinator, negotiator, scout, spy...
3. Care so much for their loved ones they could explode, so they use the above 2 qualities to support their friends. They may be the Main Character but they are not the one driving the story. They are flexible to fit what the story needs. That's their actual role in the dramatis personae.
So ... Junah is in every way is a Persona Main Character. Thank you for coming to my tumblr post. 💃
