Sunday is beach day! And today, I (Patrick) am pining for the spectacular sandbar shores that materialize like magic from the turquoise waters off Waderick Wells Cay, Exumas, Bahamas. If you prefer your beaches private and pristine, then you'll want to stumble upon Stumpy Bay Beach. This cozy, crescent-shaped cove likely gets its name from the clutches of stumpy rocks at its extremes. It's not The Baths, but those stumpy rocks are pretty cool nonetheless. Stumpy Bay Beach isn't all rocks either. The middle of the bay is sandy, with shade trees just back of the beach. That's my (Patrick's) son. Peacefully sleeping in a little pullout bed on the first morning of our 2016 holiday season trip. As the sun rose over the city, I rose as well. I couldn't wait to explore this island I had never visited before. The island was Cuba. The city was Havana. And the hotel was the Saratoga. Today, that hotel is a gutted, burned-out hulk after last weekend's deadly explosion. And as I continue to follow this tragic story, I keep thinking of our time there. Of my little son snoozing peacefully. Of waking him up and giving him his first daytime glimpse of Habana. And later, enjoying a Havana Club 7 at sunset. But most of all, I think of the people of Havana. Of course, I mourn the loss of life. And the loss of this historic hotel. But the people of Havana are the most resourceful, unstoppable people I've ever had the pleasure to mingle with. I know tomorrow will be better than today. https://instagr.am/p/CdZXQj5tf9R/
