talia often wears qipaos because she is an orientalist caricature and they have been the enduring dress representing chinese (and more erosively, broadly east asian) identity to western audiences since the 20s but i do really like when she wears them (if its not being used to make her a dragon lady) because 1. she’s a fashionista and it would be in character for her to be drawn to beautiful styles of dress 2. quality authentic qipaos are really comfortable and have pretty good range of movement which is valuable as a fighter and 3. its a dress with a bright history of being a symbol of freedom and unshackled femininity in republican-era china and i think it says something that a woman so often tied down by circumstances out of her control relating to the men in her life would find little things that are just for her with meaning like that
