What is your characterâs name? Does the character have a nickname?
Pak Sangyeop. Boss & Mr. Pak at work, Yeop by his mum.Â
Does your character have a birthmark? Where is it? What about scars? How did they get them?
Nothing prominent, naturally speaking. Thereâs one burn scar he got from helping his mother bake mooncakes at a young age (15), but he passes that off as a simple arm birthmark. Kinda looks like a cyclone or a UFO. Your call.
Who are your characters friends and family? Who do they surround herself with? Who are the people your character is closest to? Who do they wish they were closest to?
In rapidfire succession: 1) emotionally indebted to the head of the Kwons (for sure not their bastard father), 2) coworkers and subordinates if he canât help it, 3) see #1, 4) maybe just plenty of the people he sees more than once. Itâd be nice to be able to even afford the experience and the baggage that comes along with it.
Where does your character go when theyâre angry?
Out the back of his store for a smoke and/or a silent cry. Maybe a drive once itâs time to close up.
What is their biggest fear? Who have they told this to? Who would they never tell this to? Why?
Dedicating a day more past his 20s to his current line of work. Nobody knows but heâs not enough of a fool to remain ignorant about Haeil picking up on it in full. Regardless though, the lesser, the better. Would not mind taking this to the grave if he could. Itâs not something heâd wish upon anyone else even if it isnât that srs (oh but it is).
What makes your character laugh out loud?
Kidsâ jokes. Accidental punchlines. Irony. This is from least funny (chuckling) to most funny (ah fuck, this is too real. Guess what? More cryinâ!).
When has your character been in love? Had a broken heart?
I guess he did an acting seminar back in high school if I remember his Sparknotes correctly... but if not then like, heâd still be totally immersed in the drama scene (gossip aside) and support all local musicals whenever possible by actually coming out to see them + donating spare change when asked lol. More of a visual and emotional junkie than anything else though, never really hands on with the practice/hobby itself the way he wanted to be. Nothing discouraged him from it save from his financial predicament in his final years of public school, so I guess that much was his only cap.
Currently trying to see if it can be more than a dream once heâs thirty and then some. Never too late to do something new.
What is in your characterâs refrigerator right now?
Manâs big on his noodles and pasta stock but never adamant on saving them to eat for later. Consumption is on sight. Usually only cooks for one too, so he buys enough staple ingredients to suffice for himself, plenty of greens and stock he can mix and match. Likes his lunch salads in the warmer seasons, soup when itâs cold, rice all year round. Cookingâs a coping mechanism and an obvious way to go in replacement of smoking, but also a little counterproductive with the amount of carb & fat-rich meals he whips up. Juicing? Sure. All remaining kale ends up being for... you guessed it, more fucking salad. Oh yeah, and sliced fruits to snack on. Whateverâs in season then and there. Right now is watermelon time.
Look at your characters feet. Describe what you see there. Do they wear dress shoes, gym shoes, or none at all? Are they in socks that are ratty and full of holes? Or are they wearing a pair of blue and gold slippers knitted by their grandmother?
Jerusalems on a quick grocery run if he ainât tending the shop that day. This brand of dress shoes he canât really pronounce provided by those holding a gun to his head. Slippers on wood and tile at home. Has a collection of those. White Tommy Hilfiger sneaks for anytime else, again provided by yours miserably.
When your character thinks of their childhood kitchen, what smell do they associate with it? Sauerkraut? Oatmeal cookies? Paint? Why is that smell so resonant for them?
Dog. His family dog, Rocky. Always stirring up trouble and sniffing out scraps of vegetable peels and the likes in the trash, doing his business there, lazing around on the cold tile on hotter days. Would only be masked by whatever dish being prepared at that given moment.
Your character is doing intense spring cleaning. What is easy for her to throw out? What is difficult for her to part with? Why?
Pro at dismissing sentimentality as a trick on the brain, proclaimed by both self and people in his life alike. Doesnât really matter if he gets rid of something now only to remember its functionality two weeks into the future, he wonât beat himself up for it. Firm believer of everything being temporary in this life, Sangyeop lets things come and go. Is he a clean freak or just irrationally rational? Yeah.
What is one strong memory that has stuck with your character from childhood? Why is it so powerful and lasting?
Breaking his first pair of glasses ever in an attempt to get the bridge to be a little more pinched since they wouldnât stop sliding down his nose. Weird trigger to seeking out the knacks of thermal science via miscellaneous books and the Internet for the years to come.
