Still trying to comprehend this plot twist from Hotel Oblivion. I mean, Grace? A traitor?  So.  Here’s a small Grace character study through HotObv.  

On Klaus, Luther and addiction

So this is something I personally find to have a lot of great thematic potential for these two characters. The idea of Luther falling into the same trap that Klaus has for both similar and different reasons and Klaus dealing with Luther’s addictions while facing his own is such a great thru line for both of them. The show’s set them up with the building blocks for this plot point and it would be so easy for it to come into play this season, especially this season actually.

I’m not the biggest Grace fan out there, but like what a power move.

More parallels between Five and Luther, who are twins in the comics, and I hope Netflix keeps it that way.

1. I mentioned this before, the body dysmorphia (both permanent in the comic, IDK in Netflix). A body that is stuck in time, organs of an old man in a young body, unchanging. And the gorilla body after a failed mission.

2. They are both very close to Pogo in the comics. Luther considers Pogo his best friend and went to space missions with Pogo as copilot. Five goes on missions with Pogo when he comes back and he’s trying to sort shit out with the Commission. Five alters the timeline so that Pogo is no longer dead(comic).

3. They are the two characters that have some knowledge of science and engineering. Five learning quantum physics on his own in the Apocalyptic wasteland, and Luther being an astronaut.

4. They are both prideful, but Five takes the cake. “I don’t think I am better, Number One. I know I am.” Five’s sense of superiority comes from himself and what he can do in spite of the odds. Luther’s pride is heavily dependent on Reginald, though, and very fragile. 

5. They both have the obsession with preventing the Apocalypse. The rest were rather dismissive at first of Five’s warnings. Luther’s the only one that took him seriously. The difference is that Five has experienced the Apocalypse’s aftermath and its horrors. Of course he would want to prevent that! Luther, on the other hand, has an extreme Savior complex and paranoia, it’s pretty bad and the one other character I can think of with such excessive Savior complex is Dib from IZ, and all the characters from that cartoon have very extreme and unhealthy personalities. Apparently he isolated himself and became obsessed with predictions of the world’s end after it became apparent the team would disband (Pogo’s notes from comics). And then Luther gets fat in Dallas, when he thinks his mission is completed and he has no purpose anymore(comics).

Ways in which they are opposites: 

1. Luther never really left Reginald and his influence. Reginald died before he could ever try to leave. This is more blatant in the comic where he doesn’t have a “your mission is a lie” sort of reveal. Five left Reginald the earliest out of all the siblings, just to prove the old man wrong. Luther’s too obedient for his own good and Five too disobedient.

2. Luther is huge, being attached to a Martian gorilla body. Five is smol.

3. Luther is passive, agreeable, and tends to go with the flow and just follow orders. Five has the habit on running off on his own without telling anyone and doing what he wants or thinks is best(even if it backfires). 

I saw people saying "but if he hated fame so much then why did he make HA or TUA, huh?" "Yeah, his mental health is important, but he should have still talked about..." "Fuck him for saying MCR was a dark place"

You don't know shit, and he doesn't owe us absolutely nothing. Every fucking day, for years, he put on a brave face for us, while he was battling his own demons because he didn't want to let us down.

MCR was a dark place, that doesn't mean he hates the band or his brothers, he never hated creating, he hated what comes with it.

He said, oh so explicitly, that it came a point where he thought he needed to be in a dark place to make masterpieces (sounds familiar? paramour mansion), that still doesn't mean he hated everyone for it.

Danger Days was such a bad era in terms of mental health, and this is no news, he said it before, but you still give him shit for it.

Breaking the band was what he needed to do in order to be better, he did so much for us, it was about time he prioritised himself.
