it has come to a point where woojin had to remind him about their priority which was debuting. even ryul and louis had to pull him aside to ask him to straighten his mind and not mess with the preparation for debuting. the only thing their ceo told him was to fix himself.
ohyul still didn't know why he did that to you and it's keeping him at nights. it was never that big of a deal but he made it seem like it was and he has no one to blame but himself.
sometimes in late nights, he would stare at the deserted chat between the two of you and ask himself if all of this was worth the suffering he's going through. and each night he would throw his phone away and sleep with a heavy heart and heavy mind.without realizing, months have passed and his debut has now come close yet you're still consistent in his mind.
by now his ego had dissipated and he no longer had the pride he once had. all of that was now replaced by embarrassment and regret about why he had let you go.
the more he thinks about it, the more he feels pathetic. he knows you like him and he does reciprocate your feelings but he never dared to confess or acknowledge it. instead he's been dragging everything out so that he could have you and his career simultaneously.
the irony ohyul felt during the recording of next 2 u was immense. he was the one who let you go but he was the one who was singing this song. and during the phone call part, nobody said anything but deep down, everyone knew who that girl was: you.
"hyung," ohyul didn't even spare a glance at woojin. "you really need to talk to her. you look like a walking corpse now," woojin continued as he took a seat next to his hyung. "i'm sure she's also waiting for you to make the move." still ohyul didn't said anything until woojin left him alone, no longer know what to say to make ohyul listen.
the same night after woojin left him, ohyul's finger started hovering on your contact, again. the only difference is that now he feels like the fire in him has extinguished. the only thing he felt towards you at the moment was how much he misses you.
"ohyul hyung," louis barged into his room. "what? do you need anything?" "can i borrow your phone? woojin hyung hid my phone. i can't find it," he begrudgingly hand louis his phone and before he could say anything, the younger walked away from him. suddenly, he heard a familiar ringtone coming from his phone.
louis popped into the room and suddenly tossed ohyul his phone and ran away, screaming "sorry hyung! you'll thank me later."
before ohyul could ask what he meant, "hello?" came from his phone. "ohyul?" his entire body went rigid. "is this a joke?" the silence streched for a few seconds before you hung up.
flustered, ohyul ring your line once more. he didn't even realized what he had done until you picked up again. "seriously. please don't play games with me right now kwon ohyul."
oh, how he misses hearing your voice. "hi... how have you been doing?," the few seconds waiting for your response felt like hours to him.
"do you need anything?" your reply was cold. it was expected. after all, he did this himself.
taking a long, deep breath, ohyul was ready to fix this. "i'm sorry," you didn't say anything so ohyul continued. "i'm sorry for being a jerk to you. i know you meant well and you were just worried about me. but instead of being rational, i acted like you were saying unreasonable things. i know i was wrong and i'm sorry. you don't have to forgive me now but please do know that i will do anything for you to accept my apologies." you still didn't say anything. "and... i miss you. a lot. i know i keep repeating myself but i'm sorry. not just for what i said back then but also for stringing you along. i was a coward. maybe i still am but the thought of losing you hurts so much. i want to be brave for you, for us. i want to fix... us. i'm sorry again. but if you really don't want me anymore, just say the word and i'll stop. just, please. say something. anything."
"ohyul... you really did hurt me when you said those things..." your voice was meek, ohyul blame himself once again for making you feel like this. "i waited and waited for you to reach out to me. i thought, you were the one who decided i'm no longer needed. i tried to convince myself that you're better off without me, without us, but it still hurts a lot," you sniffles and took a deep breath before continuing. "i miss you, and i hated that you took so long to look for me," it felt like a thousand knives just stabbed his chest.
ohyul had to sit there in his room, listened to your soft cries, unable to do anything. "i'm sorry for being such a crybaby," "no. don't apologize. your feelings are valid. i'm the jerk here. and i'm sorry for making you feel this way."
the two of you sat in silence while listening to your own breath. "ohyul," "yes?" "are you free tomorrow?" without missing a beat, ohyul goes "yes. i'm free tomorrow," "then can we meet? i want to see you," "yeah. of course we can." "at our cafe?" "yes. our cafe."
few more seconds passed in silence. "goodbye ohyul. thank you for calling and see you tomorrow," "thank you for waiting. see you tomorrow."
beep.
without realizing, ohyul had this soft smile on his face.
he stared at your name on his phone for a minute before tossing it aside.
he cannot believe this. his heart feels the lightest ever since the past few months. he's finally meeting you, tomorrow. you. just the thought made him feel nervous but he pushed away all the negative thoughts and just focused on you.
practice tomorrow? the kids will understand if he skipped just this one time.

the day was still clear in your head. it was nothing big really. you were just worried.
when ohyul suddenly came to you after three weeks of disapearance and the first thing he said was "can you believe that i almost fainted from fasting?" like it was nothing. he said he was fasting for the first time after it was recommended to him and apparently he pushed himself too much and almost ended up in the hospital.
your heart dropped when he said this to you cheerfully. does he really not see the problem with what he just uttered?
then, you started voicing your opinion. saying that he shouldn't do push himself too hard and asked him to be easier on himself. what you got in return was a total defense from ohyul.
he started raising his voice saying it's okay because at the end of the day nothing actually happened and started spewing random things about you should support him instead of... whatever you were doing.
things escalated so quickly till you had to be the one who walk away because you just cannot stand him anymore.
the truth was, the two of you were just friends. you know you didn't have the right to tell him things like that but you were just worried.
gone the ohyul who would always prioritize his meals and you. now he's just too focused on debuting.
you really can't blame him. this was his dream and with how close he was with it, it's understandable how he's willing to do anything to reach it.
but really the jokes was on you now.

here is my life philosophy: next week there might be someone ahead of you in line at the store who’s short a quarter and you have a quarter and you can give it to them. if you weren’t there, they’d have to put something back. the week after that you could be getting lunch and the waiter might ask if you want some pancakes someone else ordered and never picked up. you could find someone’s lost cat. you could watch someone’s bag while they go to the restroom. there are so many ways you are going to touch other people’s lives and they are going to touch yours and there’s no way to know when it’s going to happen. so you have to keep living!!! i wouldn’t want to die knowing that tomorrow the barista will give me free oat milk just to be nice.
When I was 11 years old - we went to Sea World for my birthday. This was to avoid the realization I had no friends, and no one to come to a birthday party and probably because someone gave my mother free tickets at work. It was kinda a shitty day despite being at a theme park full of cute animals. There was a new roller coaster there that had just opened so we decided to go on. I was nervous. I’d never been on a roller coaster.
A group of 6 college kids were ahead of us in line and started chatting with me. Full on just having a fun conversation with someone literally going through the beginning of a very awkward middle school period. I was so shocked they wanted to talk to me. I think my mom mentioned it was my birthday. They were very nice about it. When we got on the ride they told us to go ahead of them so we could sit at the front of the car since it held 8 people.
Now the ride (called Journey to Atlantis - I believe it is sadly no longer there) started with a slow ride of beautiful visuals of dolphins and oceans and computerized images of this imaginary Atlantis before going up the hill to the beginning of the coaster, where it paused for about 30 seconds, and then the ride started. The college kids must have known there would be a pause. Maybe they’d ridden it before I’m not sure.
But as we sat there on that peak, 6 people I’ve never known, and will never know again, sang a very very lonely 11 year old happy birthday. Loudly. And with gusto. They were happy and laughing and joyful. And it made me feel less alone in the world.
I am 29 years old this year, and I still remember them. I still remember that kindness. It is so important. It doesn’t go into a vacuum. It exists beside me in my daily life. And I love the idea that I have been that person to someone else too.
It’s stunningly lovely to be human when we’re kind to each other.
