FINAL SCORE: âââââ [-1/5]
âSomeone tell me that guyâs existence was just some bizarre nightmare.â
ohh boy
Sure, Mitsuru thought Lucian was full of shit from the get go, but he also thought the guy was a fucking riot. Vampires? Real? In total seriousness? That took him so off guard during the first trial that he couldnât help but laugh his ass off.
Then the whole thing just got old, and he delegated Lucian to the âridiculous but probably harmlessâ category. Probably. A huge underline under probably. Who knew, maybe the guy actually drank blood. Mitsuru wouldnât know. And Mitsuru sure as hell didnât care to find out.
By the time Malachiâs trial rolled around, Mitsuru was just done with Lucianâs shit, one hundred fucking percent. There was no doubt in his mind that he was the killer, and the way he just kept clinging to these flimsy lies was pathetic, annoying, and... and honestly? Mitsuru didnât even care about the fact he killed Malachi. Why should he care? He just wanted to get that whole trial over with.
Lucian was an inconvenience, and Mitsuru is shocked that he survived as long as he did.

âKh. Got what he had coming to him. Good fucking riddance.â
the prime minister is not happy with h
Mitsuru was... kind of annoyed by WIREâs whole âcooler than thouâ schtick, but didnât have much of an opinion of him until Najwaâs death, when he belatedly put together the pieces and realized, hey, fucker, hereâs the killer right in front of us.
And to him? Having a killer running around? Someone who let someone he was supposedly involved with take the fall for him? Someone who could manipulate someone into taking the fall for him? That was dangerous to Mitsuruâs survival. He didnât want to be anywhere near the guy.
Then he died, and Mitsuruâs sigh of relief was heard throughout the world.
Was WIRE the worst person on the boat in Mitsuruâs book? Nah. That title belonged to someone else. But was Mitsuru bitter about it? Hell fucking yes he was. Heâs still bitter, even though people have done even worse things. Heâs even more bitter than he is about the whole Itsuki incident, just because by that point he had gotten used to all the Trickery And Deceit murderers would resort to. His resentment for WIRE is residual, but still definitely there.
And heâs not above stealing his shit, either.

â fite me mits
FINAL SCORE: âââââ [0/5]
âGutsy, Iâll give him that.â
Renjiroâs willingness to get down and dirty (in the purest of senses) did not go unnoticed by Mitsuru during the first trial. Sure, the guy seemed like he just wanted to keep the peace, but when has Mitsuru ever been one to trust how people seem on the surface? Also, on a more practical note... there was no doubt in Mitsuruâs mind that Renjiro could kick his ass.
And he was right. He pissed off Renjiro after Najwaâs execution with a comment about his mother at precisely the wrong time and got rewarded with a punch to the face. Which he all too reasonably interpreted as a murder attempt. Which he attempted to fend off to the best of his ability. Which wasnât much.
(There may or may not have been a split second where he wondered if Renjiro was Naoiseâs true killer during that whole skirmish.)
Then, to add insult to literal injury, Mitsuruâs motive card slipped out of his pocket and into Renjiroâs sights.
Mitsuru was mortified.
(Fun fact: that was one of the motives that Mitsuru would have seriously considered killing for. You can guess who got bumped up a couple spots on the list of possible victims.)
Fortunately, Renjiro never brought it up again, but Mitsuru still remained somewhat wary of him for his knowledge and his fighting instinct up until he died. Breaking down the headmasterâs door. Presumably to help them all.
And that was what finally bumped Renjiroâs final score up from a negative one â if it wasnât for that stunt, Mitsuru figures they still couldâve been stuck on that boat. Gotta love that grudging respect, man.
â
FINAL SCORE: âââââ [0/5]
âOne of the only kids on this boat with her head screwed on straight. Well. Usually. Actually thought Natadama bit himself, kheheh.â
If Only He Knew
Fortunately, he doesnât know, so his opinion of Koharu is just neutral. Sure, he respects her â how the hell couldnât he, when she was so clearly competent from the very beginning in a crowd of screaming, sniveling children? No nonsense from her, no sir. He could even forgive her having friends â she seemed smart enough to know what she was doing.
Which is why his opinion of her isnât any higher â because she seemed. He never knew her enough for her to be anything more than what she seemed. And he figures sheâs got some dirt on her thatâs just waiting to surface one of these days. Everyone does. Why should she be better than everyone else?
But he doesnât know what it is, so for now, heâs content to give her his marginal respect.
(And, honestly, he figures sheâs the main reason he even made it out of that whole pseudo-execution deal alive, so thereâs that.)
â (Janet)
FINAL SCORE:Â âââââ [-1/5]
â... That letter, the hell...â
dammit janet
Mitsuru didnât have much of an opinion of Janet aside from âforeign nameâ and âshe stands next to meâ. Less opinion and more fact. He didnât care much for opinions on her, simply because he didnât care much for her. That didnât change when she died.
So... why the negative ranking?
Because she had the misfortune of drawing one of his most personal items from the Monomachine and then giving it to him â a letter from his older brother, written to him just before he left for his semester at sea. A letter filled with apologies, and a promise to come talk to him during the school year to try and make amends.
And if thereâs one thing Mitsuru Kouzo is very bad at doing, itâs letting go of a grudge.
(No need to kill the messenger, though. That took care of itself.)

FINAL SCORE: âââââ [-2/5]
âWell, well, well. Good thing we got them in the end, eh?â
we cant have any architectural photographers theres no time
There were very few people on the Stella Maris that Mitsuru deemed âreasonableâ. For a while, Itsuki was one of them. They were collected during trials, and they collected valuable evidence â and they didnât seem to cling too heavily to other people, which was a bonus. Mitsuru's respect isnât easily earned, but Itsuki was getting there.
... Aaaaand then Noelle died, which kinda ruined everything.
Sympathy? Pity? He hated them like the plague. He didnât feel any of that for Noelle. All his irritation for Itsuki came from the fact that, not only did they kill Noelle, but they fucking lied about it when they were about to die and had nothing to lose, what the hell. Though one could argue that he was more irritated at himself for believing them when they said they were innocent.
(Just trying to be helpful, his ass.)
Even worse was their weird friendship with Malachi. Friendship? On this boat? Heâd thought they were better than that. But in the end, they just turned out to be another fucking wild card.
How disappointing.

[ryo voice] i dont give a shit-
Mitsuru never really had the chance to form an opinion of Nao. He thought they were a bit annoying, and that they were weak, and he wasnât surprised in the least that they were killed. But that was it. Really, his biggest impression of them is that their death was what led to WIRE getting away unscathed.
For a little while, at least.

FINAL SCORE: âââââ [0/5]
"Least she had the common sense to off him outta everyone.â
So Mitsuru thought very little of Bina at the beginning â not that he had a low opinion of her, but his opinion was nonexistent. She didnât matter. Just another foreign kid who was gonna lose her cool early on.
And then she did.
(His judgements were fucking spot on.)
Heâd already started nursing a bit of a grudge against WIRE for getting_away with_murder.mp3, so the sight of his dead body was gratification in the best way. Learning that Bina was the one who did him in... didnât exactly endear her to him, because, well, sheâd still killed him. But at least she picked the perfect victim, and she let herself get caught, so. Not the most reprehensible killer on the boat.
Even if he absolutely could not give less of a shit about her little fairy tale.
Slime Man EXPLAINED, sort of
So it looks like people are writing up stuff explaining spoilery aspects of their characters? (im lookin at u ag) I mean, Iâve already driven Mitsuruâs Escapades into the ground already, but...
What about the rest?

Mitsuruâs initial impression of Noelle was actually two impressions, and they are as follows:
âSheâs gotta be foreign,â and
âSheâs gotta be one of the first to crack.â
And he was right about both.Â
(Much to his egoâs delight.)
She was the epitome of a weak link in his eyes, while he still had them. She cried during trials. She cowered at death. And, the worst crime of all... she tried to make friends. Not allies. Friends. Fucking friends, who the hell in their right mind thought friends were what anyone needed on this ship? He knew firsthand that people were assholes even under the best circumstances. She was unbelievably naive for thinking it was a good idea to get all chummy here, heâd think to himself as she palled it up with Julia or Itsuki or whoever.
If three strikes gets you out, then three hits must get you a dead butler. He wasnât surprised to see her dead. He wasnât even upset, really. Just this dull recognition that her death was pitiable without actually feeling pity himself. And when the truth finally came out, he wasnât surprised in the least.

Pity â Party | Kiyoko | [RE: Motive, ATTN: Mitsuru]
shsl-stellamaris:
To experience your own dream world for seven whole days⊠The thought itself was both exciting and somewhat sad, considering that even if you got it, it would all wipe away in the end, wouldnât it?
âIf someone falls to this⊠weâll definitely know who they are if they do get away with it! Theyâll be out of it, sooo I donât really, like, get why you would murder for it? I mean, if your heartâs set on it, I canât fool you, but I wouldnât want to be the fool who fell for the most, like, obvious trap ever! Your happiness wonât even be forever, so your wrong-doing will totally not be worth it!â
Friendly reminder uwu
âAck! S-Sorry if I got carried away there! But reeeeally, please! This is not a threat, so we can toss this one aside!â
Perhaps she felt too embarrassed at her own message, as she was quick to leave the scene.
ă ă»ă»ă»ă
It was a while, but Kiyoko had eventually gained the resolve to try and do something especially after having the audacity to shout out all of that after the motive reveal. But what?
She could not do much in the way of investigation, proving to be very little help. She also struggled to help in trials, not being quite as resourceful, deductive, and as smart as her peers. The idea of preventing murder seemed futile even as hard as she tried. She had very little connections, very little cunning, and very little strength to restrain and protect people with even if that was her desire. And lastly, trying to investigate outside of murders just seemed to end up with her meddling with others seeing as how the last time she snooped around she ended up in the infirmary.
Aaaaa, good times.
So, in the end, she decided to try doing a more simplistic approach: keeping people company. She wanted to provide good (or more pleasant at least) memories. She tried to remember something to give her a starting point, and her mind wandered back to the infirmary. A lot of people had been there when she had woken up, huh? Maybe if anyone was there still they could use some company.
As such, she found herself entering the infirmary once more and spotting one indie rpg developer. She took in a deep breath and put on her biggest smile, her peppy tone being as present as ever.
âHeeeello, Kouzo-tan! I know we didnât talk very much ever, but can we have a talk? Oh! Itâs Minami, by the way! Oh! Again! If I sound intimidating or something and like I want to interrogate you, nah, that ainât it. Itâs all in the cleeeear!â
... Why was there one less bed in the infirmary than a few days ago?
... Why was Mitsuru just parked randomly in his wheelchair instead of sitting in one of said beds?
... Why was Mitsuru alone????
Mitsuru didnât care if any of these thoughts occurred to his intruder. This was because Mitsuru was far too preoccupied with jolting like heâd been shocked at the sound of an unfamiliar voice and sending the little round capsules in his lap rolling to the floor, followed by him sticking his hand in his robe, fumbling around for... something.
(Shit, shit, shit â that wasnât Yuu, that definitely wasnât fucking Yuu, but this didnât make sense because it was only a few goddamn minutes after the announcement, was â were they just moving fast â)
He didnât scream, though. Thank God.
â... Minami? For fuckâs sake, would it kill you to give a guy a little more warning next time? I swear, sâ like everyone forgot the conspicuous ass bandages after three fucking days...â
He shook his head, right hand retreating into his sleeve.
(... Was that a flash of something silver just then?)
âSo you wanna talk, do you. Fine. Letâs talk. Iâm doing shit as always. How are you doing.â
Rude, Mitsuru. Sheâs just trying to be friendly.

[CH8 NORMDAYS | MOTIVE REACTION] ryo this is bullshit | Mitsuru [RE: Yuu]
Mitsuru⊠didnât seem particularly disturbed by the motive as much as he was by presence of a motive, period. The timer ticking down to the next body had been set.
(When it would go off was a question he couldnât answer. But the fact there was a timer ticking at all, it was â it wasnât exactly something he liked, having that atmosphere of danger seeping into his skin with each passing second â)
But heâd be fine. Probably. It was all thanks to the young man currently yelling about stuff Mitsuru frankly didnât give a shit about.
âOy, Sagara. Lemme know when youâre done yelling at the teddy bear. These coins are burning a hole in my keycard. Weâre makinâ a stop at the capsule machine.â
That was⊠awfully authoritative of him. But he didnât give a shit about that, either. He knew Yuu would oblige, even if he did put up an argument. And so, shortly afterwards, they departed.
And after a few failed attempts, Mitsuru swiped his card.
And five little capsules rolled out.
And, instead of opening them himself, he goaded Yuu into reading the labels for him.
(How⊠how dependent heâd become.)
Akineko Murakami got a dismissive grunt. The clay got a hand wave. The crystalettes got a groan that translated roughly to âseriously?â The cat kigurumi got a â
âYou want me to â No. Fuck no. Youâre gonna have to manhandle my corpse if you want me to wear that thing.â
Really, the only spoil that got a positive reaction out of Mitsuru was the energy drink. Heâd heard of the Rocket Fuel brand before. Of course he had. He was a regular fucking aficionado on the finer points of caffeinated beverages. The grin on his face wasnât one of derision, but something purer, something more akin to hell fucking yes.
Then Yuu didâŠÂ something, but, for the third time, Mitsuru didnât give a shit.
Abnormal Days | Yuu & Mitsuru | æ°žć«ăźăăăăăźăăăă«
shsl-stellamaris:
Hell. That was one word that definitely summed up this week. Yuu had pushed himself far beyond his usual limits to save Mitsuru Kouzoâs life. Eyeless, legless, eyeless, legless, blood, blood, blood. Tourniquets, hurriedly hauling the bleeding remnants of a body, sprays, IVs, blood packs, bloodstained bedsheets, blood pools on the floor, blood in his clothes⊠Yuuâs short-lived girls uniform had been completely ruined, though that was trivial compared to the fear of failure. And somehow⊠they had done it. Mitsuru Kouzoâs condition had stabilized. After that, Yuu spent the next few hours alone, stripped of all his bloody garments, hunched over his toilet and then in his shower, and after a fresh change of clothes he spent the rest of that time at the library, running his fingers along book covers and pages almost as often as he read. Anything to distractâŠ
When Yuu felt well enough to visit the infirmary again, things became slightly easier. Now the work was less bloody. As the red-tinged bathwater proved, not completely bloodless, but even if his stomach turned as he scrubbed the filth from Mitsuruâs body, it was nothing like before. Maybe⊠Maybe he could actually handle a little more than beforeâŠ?
âŠ
What was this boat doing to him
Having taken on the large part of the burden of looking after Mitsuru, this particular motive came way, way too soon. Yuuâs stomach sank and his breathing grew uneven as the image of Mitsuru crawling towards him out of the darkness came back to him as clearly as if it was happening right in front of him once again. Scared⊠even more than many of the motives than before, fear gripped him particularly tightly. He did not need to go through that again. And if it happened to himself⊠He couldnât even fathom. The end of his kabuki career if he ever got off this boat would be the least of his problems. But actually going for itâŠ? As petrified as he was, Yuu had a responsibility now.
So in the early morning when a murder announcement woke him up once again, Yuu silently slipped on comfortable clothing and made his way to the infirmary instead of the martial arts room. When he left the room, Yuu pushed a wheelchair that Monomi had acquired over the course of the week. By the time he had wheeled Mitsuru to the scene of the crime, the two of them were among the last to arrive.
Mitsuru, for his part, couldnât really say he was excited to finally leave the infirmary. Heâd been adamant about participating in the trials and investigation, sure, but going back to the old grind wasnât exactly something heâd been looking forward to. Especially when it involved getting up at this goddamn hour. So tired was he that he didnât even realize they had made it to the body until Yuu stopped.
â⊠So. Whoâs the poor bastard this time.â
ââŠMalachi.â
Yuu sounded strangely somber for somebody who had publicly tried to condemn Malachi to death only last trial. But for all he had done⊠for all the people he hurt and all the trouble he caused⊠Malachi had done his part to save Mitsuruâs life. In fact, he had really, really helped. When Yuu struggled to pick up Mitsuru from the faculty office floor, Malachi ran their sides to help lift him. In that moment, from Yuuâs perspective, any animosity between them that had built up over the past weeks, or even the past day, had been completely forgotten. They were united under a common goal, and they had done it. They had really done it. Malachi was the one who had found Mitsuru in the first place. If it wasnât for him⊠Yuu wasnât sure if they could have succeeded at all. Yuu knew he should have been feeling relief, but now he felt⊠not grief, but an uncomfortable twisting in his insides nonetheless. Complicated. Everything had become way, way too complicated. But Yuu knew that he owed Malachi a thorough investigation. It was the only way the onnagata could repay the exorcist for the good he had done.
And Mitsuru?
ââŠâŠâŠâŠ Youâre shitting me.â
Not that he doubted Yuuâs words, but⊠him? Seriously? Mitsuru had come to think of the guy as something like a roach. Was he a goddamn pain in the ass? Oh, yeah. Was he an ass? Definitely. But⊠but still, he was never supposed to actuallyâŠ
Death was serious. Death was final. Mitsuruâs perception of Malachi allowed for neither of those things. And yet here he was, dead, most likely on the floor before him. There was blood â what had been the thing that did him in? He had no idea. That was the point of these investigations, right? To find out?
⊠No. That had never been the point. The point was to kill off whoever did it. Not to pay respects to the victim or whatever.
So there was no reason for Mitsuru to be anything but indifferent. Happy wouldâve been more of a spit in the face, sure, and there was part of him that was glad to see the fucker gone, butâŠ
If he wasnât gonna just hop up and laugh in his face in retaliation, what was even the point?
Indifference it was.
(Have fun in hell, Natadama.)
