The day after Kita Shinsuke turns six years old, the vacant house across the street suddenly springs to life with occupants.
His life spirals from being humble and quiet to chaotic in 24 hours. Suddenly, he's responsible for taking care of the bratty kid next door even though they're his age. His bedtime gets thrown out the window because he needs to chase them down to get them to brush their teeth, and his dinner always has some suspiciously missing elements that he never finds.
You become the centerpiece of his entire existence—a floating memory in every crevice of his mind.
Kita hears your laughter in the songs of his childhood; feels your hands roughly pushing him and dragging him around by the wrist; smells the minty toothpaste he forcefully shoved into your mouth after finally catching up to you.
It seems as though you and him were born to be polar opposites. Where he climbs you stumble. Where he sits quietly at the dinner table, you have a never-ending stream of anecdotes to tell Granny (even though half of them are greatly exaggerated—he was literally there to witness it). Where he behaves like a normal child, you can't even sit still during storytime in class.
However, your differences do little to remove you from his life. Where he goes, you go.
It's a consequence of growing up thirty meters from your front door and having you over when your parents suddenly uproot to go on week-long business trips.
And he wouldn't care so much, really, if it weren't for the fact that Granny had equal amounts of love to go around. That, and he would have to sleep on the floor whenever you came around.
For someone so disciplined and grounded, Kita Shinsuke was an envious child. He hated having you in his home, because it meant that his beloved Granny had to split her attention between the two of you. Because she would always tuck you in before him. Because you were louder, more needy, more everything. Because he often woke up with back pains at the ripe age of six years old.
When Kita turns eight, he finally bubbles over.
You're on the swings behind one of your friends, standing on the back of the seat and clinging to the chains. You're being careless, and he would be remiss if you were to hurt yourself.
"Get down from there," he scolds, standing in front of the swing set to stop you from continuing.
"Make me!" You exclaim back, childishly sticking out your tongue and rocking the swing back and forth, gesturing to your friend to keep going.
"Stop."
He comes up behind you and tugs at your shirt, making you wobble.
"Quit it, Shin!"
"You'll hurt yourself!"
He convinces himself that he only cares so much because Granny would have to spend more time with you to patch you up if you fell, and not because he would hate to see your snotty, crying face.
No, it doesn't make his heart squeeze. Not even a little.
Eventually, you end up face first in the wood chips anyway, with Kita hovering over you looking guilty as ever. He hadn't meant to pull you off so roughly, nor had he meant for you to land on the ground like that.
Oh. Why does it hurt him so much?
That night, you don't sleep in his room.
You end up tucked into Granny's bed instead, down the hall. He misses your presence—he even ends up on the floor though the bed is empty for him to take.
He blinks up at the space where you should be and feels bitterness swelling in his throat.
"Shin." His Granny calls softly when she eventually comes into his room. She doesn't sound the least bit angry, but he still aches with nothing but guilt.
"M'sorry." He knows the apology should be for you, but you couldn’t even look him in the eye over dinner.
His Granny only sighs, kneeling down beside his futon with a tired huff. A reminder of her age. He only feels worse.
"Be kind, Shinsuke."
"I'm tryin'," he argues weakly.
She's silent for a pause before she carefully tucks the silver hair from his eyes.
"You'd be lonely too if I were gone all the time, eh?"
"..."
Kita pulls the covers closer to his chin. Yes, he was aware there was a reason you were always here. There was a reason your house was devoid of life despite being filled with furniture. There was a reason you wanted Granny to love you so much, cementing in the gaps where your parents were always absent.
Did you ever want him to love you like that, too?
The next night, he sits you down on the edge of the tub with no complaints. And he's surprised that you accept the toothbrush into your mouth so easily, no resistance and no qualms like you usually have.
He sees the tired defeat in your eyes, feels the awkward tension in the bathroom, and guides your hand to the end of the brush so you can do it yourself.
"I'm sorry," he tells you without elaborating. You never need him to. (When you reminisce about this day, you sometimes laugh to yourself. You always did love how straightforward he was.)
His words are followed by a tense hug, his hands holding your head against his tummy. The brush stops moving in your mouth as you hug him back.
It dawns on him then: he's just as much of a kid as you are—feeling something as petty as jealousy when all you needed was a hug.
One day, he swears, he'll make it up to you. And he'll be nicer, too. It's the least he can do if he's all the company you have until your parents return.
Be kind, Shinsuke. That's what Yumie always told her grandson. And he would live by those words—even if it meant sleeping on the floor every weekend.
The day after Kita Shinsuke turns twenty-two years old, your apartment floods.
Of course he's the first one there, helping you move what you could salvage from the apartment into suitcases and onto the back of his truck. Of course he's the one to offer a place to stay, because if not him, then who else? And of course he's the one who holds you when you're stressing about what to do and where to go, hand firmly on your back as he lets you snot on his shirt like you've done since you were six.
For a brief moment, it feels as though he's just a little kid again with you making a mess of the home he grew up in.
Well, mess is a stretch—you've infinitely matured since starting food wars with him over dinner, but the point stands when he ends up helping you with an assignment. It had been pushed to the backburner with everything going on, whilst you were moving essentially everything you owned into his house as if you paid rent there.
He should have known that some things never change.
"I can't believe you kicked me out onto the floor."
Kita shuffles in the comfort of his duvet, resting atop his mattress. He stares at you with honey brown eyes swimming in conflict from the bed.
You curl tighter into a ball on the futon. And he knows this ploy—knows that you're trying to guilt trip him into swapping places with you. You've always been manipulative when it came to him, and god-forbid he be anything but an angel to you. (Because his Granny told him to, not for any other reason at all.)
"M'not the one who made a bet they couldn't win."
Words straight and cutting as ever, like a blade through your heart. You pout childishly, rolling over so that your back is turned to him.
It was your idea to challenge him when he said you were on your phone too much while working. It was your idea to be a brat and defiantly say that you could finish your assignment by midnight. It was your idea to bet this all on the most beloved yet war-inducing place in the entire house: Kita's bed.
It's hardly his fault that you got distracted with YouTube.
"I hate you, Shin."
"No y’don't."
"I do."
"No. You don't."
"Okay fine, I don't, but can we please swap now? It's freezin’ down here."
He can practically hear the pout still engraved into your face right now. And it takes every ounce of fight in him not to give into you with the snap of a finger. To argue back and list a million reasons why he should be allowed in his own bed.
Yet here he is, slipping out of the sheets almost instantly and crouching down beside the futon. He shakes your shoulder.
"Fine. Get goin' before I change my mind."
Any resolve left in his body melts away when you shoot upright with a bright smile, victorious as ever.
Sometimes you made it hard for him to imagine why he cared about you at all. You were too sly for your own good. How could he ever deny such a smile? It's not fair.
You scurry into his bed instantly, making yourself comfortable where you have hundreds of times before. "You should make sure I'm comfy. I am a guest in your house, y’know?"
Yes, Kita knows this all too well. You're trying to provoke him, to see how far you can push him until he breaks. Stubborn and obedient, he reaches down to slowly pull the blanket over your body.
There's a pause from you as he drapes you in warmth, blinking up at him dumbly as if you weren’t expecting him to do so without complaint.
"I'm..." You seem to choke on your own words, silently contemplating whether or not you should push further. "My face is still cold."
His hands hold your face instantly, warming your cheeks skin-to-skin. You stare at him with wide eyes, looking so surprised that he wonders if what he's doing is a mistake. But then your hands gently cover his, and you tug him closer until his knee is sinking down on the mattress beside you.
"M'super cold."
"It's twenty-two degrees in here," he informs you flatly.
You make a face, nose slightly scrunched in thought and brows pinched. It's such a troubled expression that he can't help but scoot a little closer.
He's being kind, that's all. He's just making sure you're okay as a friend. No, not even a friend—an obligatory companion. The lifelong thorn in his side. The reason why his back still aches some days.
Be kind, Shinsuke.
When did being kind turn into this? Into moving involuntarily, into having a second nature response to you? Into a stubborn body only movable by one soul, one voice, one pair of hands?
"Keep me warm, Shin."
He gives in to your whims without reason, without logic or hesitation. You are the sole person able to break down any semblance of routine that's been methodically coded into his muscles.
He doesn't get you, perhaps he never would. He would never completely understand your wishes, or how your cheeks were so cold yet burning hot at the same time, or why he was submitting to you so easily.
The only thing he knows is that you are still somehow the centerpiece of his life, dancing in the middle of it all like a black hole sucking in everything else; the whirlpool swirling in the center of calm waters; the supernova of his galaxy.
"...'Kay."
Maybe he doesn't need a reason to care about you. Maybe your very existence is reason enough. And he’s okay with that for once in his life. He had never been the type to go with the flow, but your hands are dragging up his neck and pulling his body onto the mattress.

Goofy ah moment
➶◜◝➴
Waking up upon hearing the sound of people chattering at the background, but you didn't dare to move as you focus on what's happening.
You heard a chuckle, and then you felt a hand brushed against your nape, making your body shiver. Soon the sensation disappeared, a familiar scent strikes your nose as you refuse to open your eyes to see.
It belongs to Vox's.
"Do not, touch." You heard, there's a slight growl as the demon said so. Earning a chuckle from someone, "Getting territorial I see" You then in an instant, your body is swept up from the futon. Making you instantly snap your eyes open, holding onto the person that decided to pick you up.
"They belong to us." A low voice grumbled as you recognize the owner of the voice, it was quite dark in the room. "Ohh, They belong to you~" Whoever that Shu and Vox's talking to, they're definitely putting more fuel into the fire that's for sure.
You heard a whisper, but you couldn't entirely catch on what the whisper was. What you heard is just Vox slightly argued with Shu, it seems like they've come into a disagreement.
"Are you sure this is a good idea, Shu?" "Do we have other choice? Those two will never let this one away" With a low grumble, you felt Vox loosen up his hold on you, you felt something slip into your palm. And before you could even process what happened, within a blink you've teleported away, with a purple pink fire surrounded you for one moment.
And the next you're in your room, "Huh??" You blinked as you tried to process what's happening. Wait, you looked around only to realize you are now back into your room. Left wondering, what happened to Shu and Vox? Who are they talking to?
. . .
Meanwhile at the otherside, Shu and Vox Facing their identical beings in front of them, the only difference are their colors.
Shu Hikarino, Box Tenshi.
Hikarino smirked at Shu, Box smiled gently at Vox's frown. They definitely do not get along well with each other, they're always at each other's neck whenever they see one another.
"That is not polite of you to take them away, no introductions either? Disappointed in you, Yamino." Hikarino barked, showing his disappointment towards the other. Making Shu quite irked but he manage to calm himself down, "They don't belong to you, both Vox and I have decided that they belong to us" Shu explained.
"Both of you? How about them? Do they agree on that?" Shu went silent, Vox who had been silent opened his mouth. "If they didn't agree, they wouldn't come over to the forest again and again like a fool." Shu glanced at Vox, he smiled slightly at him and let out a small chuckle.
"Hikarino, We're here not for this remember?" Box spat out as he faced the two, smiling gently. "We're here to tell you that, the village they're living in is going to be ambushed, possibly burnt down. I do hope you two know what to do." Box added, he turned around and stood next to Hikarino who is letting out a small laugh at Shu and Vox' shocked faces.
Box looked over his shoulder, smirking devilishly. "May you two stay safe." Then the two disappeared into the void, leaving the other two confused and dumbfounded.
"We have to save them all.
NOW!"
. . .
Good lord, when the two arrived, blood bath are greeting them, some villagers are seen running away for their lives but then their live is taken away just within a blink of an eye.
Women, Men, Children, Grandparents. They're all murdered and eaten by other yokais, Shu and Vox split ways as they tried to find survivors, once they found some, they knocked them out and erase their memories of seeing them, teleporting them away from the already ambushed village.
They manage to find some survivors, but they didn't find any sign of you anywhere. Shu and Vox meet up in the middle of the village, "Anything?" Vox asked. "Not even her presence could be found by your shikigamis??" Shu only shook his head as he frowned, the frustration can be seen in his eyes.
"Shu, try sending your shikigamis outside the village, and let's try to go back to the forest."
. . .
Before the ambush happened, you were trying to figure out what to do, where to go. Should you go back to the forest when it's blood moon? They said it's dangerous, but you couldn't help yourself but getting worried about them. Despite them not being humans themselves, but something about them gives you, unexpected comfort.
Your foot started moving without you realizing, you don't even know where you're going. You're running, as far as you could, and as soon as you stepped out from the village. You heard a loud scream behind you, but before you could turn around to see, a hand covered your eyes.
"Unsightly, someone like you don't deserve to see such mess." A voice echoed into your eardrum, making your body shiver. "Let's get you to safety now.." The figure who covered your eyes chuckled softly, you don't know what happened, but one thing for sure is that the screams and cries can no longer be heard.
"We're feeling generous today, so we won't do anything to you." The figure stepped away from you, revealing the identical people. You recognize their faces. But they also seem different, instead of Red and Purple, it's Blue and Green.
The two individuals stood in front of you, one smiling one smirking. "You look so lost, confused. That's cute. We're not them, though we do possess the same appearance." Shu's identical pointed out, he sighed softly as he shrugged. "They owe us for saving you" he added, his eyes then stared into yours.
"Too bad you're already taken" He pouted slightly before letting out a small laugh, "Perhaps we should find one faster next time" the other who had been quiet finally spoke.
"Well then, our job here is done, see you around.. little human." Shu's identical left first, leaving only bits of green fire, the other soon followed, leaving a icy blue smoke behind.
And now here you are just realizing that you have no idea where you are, or so you thought.
You turned to see a familiar house behind you, familiar surroundings. Those two took you to Shu and Vox's house, you're lucky enough they didn't do anything that will injure you.
Now that you're here, you stepped into the house looking for the two, only to find out that the house is bare of their presence. No one is home, you went to the room you're staying in and they're still on the same state.
You stood at the terrace, looking out at the sakura tree at the backyard. "Where are you guys..?" You asked yourself in a whisper, wondering where could the two be.
. . .
Shu and Vox wander back into the forest, hoping to see the human they're looking for. As the two continue their search, one of the shikigamis Shu sent out returned with a news saying that you are at their humble abode.
Now he is happy to receive the news, but then realization strikes him on how did she get there? There are literally so many yokais scattered around the forest, she could've either getting injured, or worse dead.
Unless,
"Vox, They're all the way at home." Shu informed the demon who had took a transformation so that no yokais dare to approach them, Vox's large figure stopped moving and growled at Shu. Silently telling him to continue what he said, "I am not sure on how they got there, but.. do you think?"
The two frowned, but they shook the suspicions away for now and marched forward to their house. To confirm if she's alive or not.
Once the two arrive, Vox have turned back to his normal size and the two goes around the house trying to find you. Once they see you at the backyard, still in one piece. Both of them internally sighed in relief.
"It is rather absurd to see you here in one piece after what happened." Shu announced his presence by saying so, he walked closer to your figure who had just turned around the moment you heard his voice. "Shu- Vox-" You called out their name. "Do tell how did you get here" Vox cuts into the case, not wasting any time.
"There's, your identical.. beings? They both look exactly like you, just different in colors..." You explained, quite unsure yourself on what to call them. Shu and Vox stared at each other after hearing your answer, "Did they do anything to you?" Shu genuinely sounded worried as he asked. You shook your head and you can see the two loosened up a bit, they've been quite tense huh.
"I believe, we owe those two this time huh, Vox?" Shu looked over his shoulder to see the demon looking at you, frowning. He sighed at Shu' statement, "Hate to admit, but it seems like it."
The two grew silent and then Shu looked back at you, the concern is still there, the worry are still in his eyes. "We apologize for our negligence, no, my negligence. Because if I were to think it through, you wouldn't have-" "Shu, it's okay, I know you mean well..." You cut him off, his eyes soften slightly as he looked like he's about to cry right at this moment. But before you could do anything about it Shu suddenly stood up and turned against you, "Apologies for my rudeness, give me a moment." Shu stepped away and now it's Vox's turn to approach you.
"Seems like we won't be letting you wander around freely from now on." You blinked confusedly at the Demon, then you remembered on the scream and cries you heard coming from your village. Hesitantly, you look at Vox and asked, "Um.. the village, my, hometown.. what happened to them?" The way Vox's eyes widen and then looked away in disappointment, the frustration in his eyes.
You can hear the stutter of his breath, "Ambushed." His reply is short, but your heart dropped when you heard his voice, shaking. "..Are you saying they're all.." You stopped, you looked at him. Then at Shu at the distance, the silence is so loud.
Shu and Vox no longer saying anything, leaving you hanging on what happened in the village, your hometown. Is everyone dead? Are they no longer here? A question appeared one after another, anxiety builds up at the thought of the people you've seen everyday are now, .. gone.
. . .
And it was true.
Everything is burned down, ruined, it reeks of blood as you step into the village that was used to be filled with laughter, and joy of each villagers. Now only leaving trail of blood followed with some houses have been burnt down by some yokais, you walked through the familiar path, companied with Shu and Vox behind you.
It took them a week to let you go out after this incident, and as you walk, you heard a chuckle at the distance. Then the figure who saved you last time appeared from a corner, "Well well, what a coincidence" Shu's identical smiled at you then his eyes went over at the two figures behind you.
"Hikarino." You heard a voice coming from behind you, it belongs to Shu. "Ha, ..Nice to see you too, Yamino." You turned slightly to see Shu and Vox's expression, and when you look back at this Shu's identical, called as, Hikarino? Are no longer alone, Vox's identical appeared out of nowhere by Hikarino' side smiling gently at you. "Nice to see you again little human."
. . .
You don't understand what exactly happened, but one thing for sure is that, Shu, Vox, Hikarino and Box. Does not get along well with each other, they're completely opposites of each other.
You stood between them as you tried to process what happened, but you don't understand what they're talking about at all. Leaving you confused and clueless, "Just tell us what is it that you want." Shu sounded slightly desperate as he look at Hikarino and Box.
"You know exactly what we want though, dear Yamino" Hikarino mocked and chuckled, "Sacrifice need to be made." Box added, smiling oh so innocently. "Your choice is simple, be it you sacrifice one to save others, or sacrifice others to save one."
Shu and Vox didn't say anything, and sacrifice? Who? You?? Even more questions appeared inside one's mind, "Give us some time." Shu said, Hikarino obliged and soon him and Box left the three of you all alone.
You look over at Shu and Vox, "Sacrifice..?" You repeated that one word that is repeated by Hikarino, Shu's jaw clenched as he tried to figure out what to do in this situation. "Let's, head back." Vox said, and the three of you made your journey back to the forest and back to the house. While you're all on your way, it was so, silent. Nobody's talking.
In the living room, the three of you sat down on the tatami floor, Vox is at the terrace. Meanwhile Shu and you are sitting across each other, in silence.
"Am I going to be okay?" You broke the silence, earning a scoff from the Demon, "You're going to be fine with us. Don't think too much about it." He added, you glanced over Shu who's looking at you apologetically. "Did I make you worry? Apologies.." You shook your hands in front of you, "I did, didn't I?" He chuckled softly,
"Don't worry, you're going to be safe with us. I promise."
I suddenly remembered out of nowhere Ace had ghosted his ex because he realized he didn't actually like being in a relationship, which is kinda douche move. Hahaha. At least tell it to her in person you jerk!
It is true!! He says, "Hanging out was just plain boring, so I stopped contacting her," so it seems like they just didn't have enough in common.
It probably would have also been harsh to say, "I want to break up because spending time with you is boring," but still :<
He gives the examples of, "We'd go out to movies and the amusement park. She said the thrill rides were too scary for her...she vetoed all the action and horror flicks."
He says it was a girlfriend he had back in middle school, but we don't actually know how old he was. As he was probably somewhere around 13 to 15, it makes sense that he wasn't super conscientious at the time.
He says that her friends coming after him was "the worst part": "That's when I learned a valuable lesson: romance is way more trouble than it's worth!"
It is fascinating that out these 22 characters between the ages of 16 and several-hundred-years-old, the only confirmation we've had of anyone being in a relationship before is a first-year student!
In the original game Ace says that he has a lot more fun spending time with his male friends, but this was made slightly more vague on EN, into, "chillin' with my buds."

Could I request Neuvilette wanting hugs from his s/o but because she's busy, she doesn't notice his attempts to hug her?
i think neuv is so sweet from the. little i understand of him so he is going to be!! kinda soft
Fontaine was quite rainy today. You didn't notice this at all, focusing on all of the work you knew you had to get done as soon as possible. This means that Neuvilette was just following you around a little aimlessly whenever he had a moment to himself, you none the wiser as he always happened to be behind you.
Nobody expected to see the slightly forlorn look in his eyes as he walks around with you, hands almost raised whenever it seemed like you were going to turn around to face him. When you ended up not facing him he would just drop his hands, continuing to follow you wordlessly.
He would feel awful if he accidentally interrupted whatever it was you were doing, hence why he's purposefully choosing to not actually say anything. In his mind, it would be better to just sneak a hug from you before returning to focus on his own tasks. He just didn't think it would be this difficult to get your attention.
Eventually, someone you're talking to gestures behind you and you finally turn to meet Neuvielette's expectant gaze, arms finally up as you laugh and let him pull you into a hug. It's wordless but the way he melts into you is telling enough and you give him a little kiss on the cheek before telling him to just ask for a hug next time. He regales you with the tale of how he tried to get you to hold him all day and you're both mortified and giddy with the mental image of him chasing you around just to get a hug. You can't help but laugh at him, burying your face in his chest to muffle the sound. He doesn't mind at all, finally able to hold you after so much struggle.

Yo I am in tears of mixed feelings because of something my friend said! Okay so-
She said "I don't know how people simp for Lilia Vanrouge from Twst so hard as well as Epel and even Kamil, they kind of look like anime lolitas." As I was scrolling through Pinterest looking at Lilia club fit.
The said picture:
And I stop and slowly looking at her and I said "do you even know what lolita means?" All she did was shake her head no but said "Nahhh but all I know its grown person, much like Lilia with a baby? face."
Not to say she is wrong but she was off, I can see where she is coming from but I did tell her the correct definition of the said word and she just nodded saying she still stands by what she said and is not changing her mind saying "Even so he still took a kid.." . Even though Lilia is peepaw and was trying to help Sliver... send help Twst fans!! 😖😭
I swear I need new friends like now living in a small town like this is killing me---

It's sad that this is true. You find actual real people with great personalities. Than you realize how much of the people you met around you are actually bad for you. It hurts knowing the people you known most of you life not really care but the ones you met a week ago on the internet genuine and actually care, and most likely why is because they are going through the same, just like you.
