The warm glow of the morning sun poured through the glass window onto Lucci’s sleeping face. He stirred and tried to block the light with his hand, but ultimately decided to open his eyes. What he found was you sitting on the edge of the bed, close to him, smiling.
“Good morning, my love,” you greeted sweetly, “Happy Birthday.” Lucci raised an eyebrow.
“Today’s my birthday?” Lucci asked.
“Of course. It said so on the calendar.” You pointed to the calendar next to the bed.
He sat up and turned his head to the said calendar. It was in June, and scribbled around its second day was a big red circle with “Lucci’s Birthday” written inside it.
“So it is,” he confirmed. “I guess I forgot my own birthday.”
“I don’t blame you,” you said, “You’ve been buried with work.” Lucci turned back to you, the corners of his lips slightly curled upwards.
“What would I do without you?” he asked.
“You wouldn’t,” you answered.
He leaned in, cupped your tiny face with his large hands, and kissed you with a passion, his fingers tangled in your hair. You placed your hand on his taut chest and felt his mighty heartbeat beneath your palms. Lucci broke away from the kiss when Hattori circled excitedly above his head before perching on his broad shoulders. He stroked the pigeon’s feathers.
“Yes, thank you for also remembering my birthday, Hattori,” Lucci acknowledged the bird.
“I have a present for you,” you mentioned.
“Do you?” Lucci glanced at you.
“Yes, but you’ll have to wait until tomorrow.”
“I don’t want you to share it with the others just yet,” you answered. Before Lucci could ask any more questions, you hopped off the bed and tugged on his arm.
“Now, come on,” you said, “I made a special breakfast for you. And after that we’re going to meet up with the others!”
You, Rob Lucci, and Hattori met up with the rest of Cipher Pol 0: Kaku, Blueno, Kalifa, Jabra, Kumadori, Fukuro, and even Spandam to celebrate Lucci’s birthday together. For Lucci’s birthday dinner, you all went to a fancy restaurant where you all cheered with a glass of whiskey, except you, who cheered with a glass of water. Throughout the evening, Lucci noticed that you’ve been fidgeting, subtle but still noticeable.
After dinner, you all returned to Lucci’s room, where everyone but you presented their gifts: Lucci got a book about pigeons from Kaku, hair care products from Kalifa, a bottle of brandy from Blueno, a new cologne from Jabra, a bowling ball from Fukuro, a leopard print robe from Kumadori, and a #1 BOSS mug from Spandam (though he preferred the PIGEON DADDY mug from Hattori better). You all hung out and talked for the rest of the evening, with you sitting quietly right next to Lucci, your fingers drumming against your leg until everyone left one by one, each wishing Lucci a happy birthday one last time.
He whispered to Hattori and sent the bird out the window for an evening flight. Finally, it was just the two of you in your shared room. He smirked at the idea of finding you sitting on the edge of the bed in a seductive pose, beckoning him to come closer. However, when he turned around, all he found was you sitting perfectly still on the bed with your hands folded in front of you; he tilted his head. You patted the spot next to you, gesturing for him to sit down. Despite feeling perplexed, he complied and took his seat on the bed.
“Well, where is this present you were talking about this morning?” he asked.
“Actually, you’re going to have to wait for a few months,” you said with a playful smile. Lucci raised his eyebrow and opened his mouth to speak, but you quickly continued.
“About a month ago, I noticed that I missed my period,” you explained. “So I took a test and found that I’m…”
Your voice trailed off into silence; however, Lucci sensed where you were going. He glanced down at your hands, softly placed over your lower abdomen. He was silent for a moment, and you felt your heart in your throat. You felt your mouth go dry, worried that he didn’t like this gift of yours. But, to your surprise, Lucci wrapped his muscular arms around you, his lips softly pressed against your hair.
“Yes,” Lucci quietly assured you, “thank you for giving me the greatest gift.
You softly smiled, closed your eyes, and rested your head against his chest. His hand lowered and joined with yours to feel his precious gift.
