a cult decides to kidnap the kid of someone important for a blood sacrifice and livestream the kid’s death to the world

the only problem with their plan is that they picked alcor and mizar for the power, unaware of their attitude towards human sacrifce

the leader’s barely nicked the kid when alcor and mizar appear-in kid form

the cult (and everyone on the net) watches two kids appear in the middle of the summoning circle

and the girl has a gold star stitched into her oversized black sweater, and the boy has a black star carefully sewn into his baseball cap

and when the cult finally connect the dots, the twin’s smile in unison, sharp teeth gleaming

There was something knocking in the house. Not on her door, like someone was trying to get in, but a steady, rhythmic knock that didn’t stop. Belle frowned and rolled out of bed. Maybe somebody had woken up like her and gone for a walk, she thought, even though the knocks sounded nothing like footsteps. Maybe one of the younger kids needed help with something. Ms. Jinesa usually took care of that, but Belle was old enough now to help, too, and Ms. Jinesa needed all the sleep she could get. Belle could probably handle whatever it was herself, and hey, if she couldn’t, she could always just get Halvor or Ms. Jinesa to help her.

The knocking sound continued as she padded over to the door to her room and reached for the doorknob. Just before she touched it, fingers clamped around her wrist, locking her hand in place. Belle jumped. The man in the suit clutched her wrist, staring down at her with glowing gold eyes. He hadn’t been there a second ago. “Don’t,” he said, his expression serious. “I’ll take care of this. Go back to sleep.”

“But–” She started to protest, but the man in the suit gave her a gentle shove back to her bed. She caught a brief glimpse of his smile, a sharp, mean grin that showed all of his teeth, and then he walked right through the door. Walls didn’t seem to matter to him most of the time.

For a moment, Belle considered following him anyway, but something about the situation had made her uneasy. Maybe she should listen to her friend. He usually knew what he was talking about.

A moment later, the house went silent. There were no voices from outside her door, no footsteps, but the knocking stopped. Whatever had caused it, it was gone now. Nothing else seemed to happen. Belle decided she had better go back to bed.

Well, this took much longer than I thought it would. And then I accidentally saved over half of this chapter, so that was fun. I have no idea how many chapters this is gonna be.

This is the sequel to A Star’s Rebirth, which I did not write, and Bound, which I did.

Belle Pines had an imaginary friend. He showed up wherever she happened to be, sometimes watching from a distance but sometimes stopping to talk to her, and nobody else could see him, not even Ima Gerber who lived down the street and had the Sight. The logical conclusion, then, was that the man in the suit was her imaginary friend, because…that was what it was like for other people, wasn’t it?
