Jealous Type Pt.1
Summary: Spencer is jealous when a local detective flirts with you
WC: 1.7k
The first time you noticed Spencer Reid was jealous, you didn’t think anything of it.
Mostly because you didn’t think Spencer Reid got jealous.
Spencer was logical.
Predictable.
He liked facts and statistics and books with far too many pages.
He didn’t get jealous.
At least, that’s what you told yourself.
It started with Detective Aaron Mitchell.
The BAU had been called to Maryland after three women were attacked in their homes over the course of a month. The local police had been struggling to find a connection, so Hotch had brought the team in.
And Detective Mitchell had been assigned to work with you.
You didn’t think much of it.
Until you walked into the bullpen that morning and found Spencer staring at the photograph of the detective on the case file.
You dropped your bag onto your chair.
“Morning.”
Spencer looked up.
“Morning.”
You glanced at the photograph in his hand.
“That’s Detective Mitchell.”
“I know.”
“You’ve been staring at his picture for like five minutes.”
“I’m studying the case.”
“You’ve been studying his face.”
Spencer immediately looked down.
“I was not.”
You smiled.
“You were.”
“I was examining his facial structure.”
You laughed.
“Sure, Spencer.”
He frowned.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
You grabbed your coffee.
“You’re cute when you’re defensive.”
Spencer froze.
You didn’t notice.
You were already walking away.
He stared after you.
Morgan walked past.
“Did she just call you cute?”
Spencer looked at him.
“Don’t.”
Morgan grinned.
“Oh, this is going to be fun.”
⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆
The team gathered in the conference room.
Hotch stood at the front.
“Detective Mitchell has been working the case since the first attack.”
The door opened.
A tall man walked in.
“Sorry I’m late.”
Mitchell smiled.
“Traffic.”
Hotch nodded.
“Detective.”
Mitchell looked around the room.
His eyes stopped on you.
“You must be ____.”
You smiled.
“I am.”
He shook your hand.
“Aaron Mitchell.”
“Nice to meet you.”
His hand lingered for half a second too long.
You didn’t think anything of it.
Spencer did.
He looked down at his notes.
Then back up.
Then down again.
Morgan leaned toward him.
“You good?”
“Yes.”
“You’re gripping your pen pretty hard.”
Spencer looked down.
His knuckles were white.
He loosened his grip.
“I’m fine.”
Morgan smiled.
“Sure.”
Hotch continued.
“you’ll work with Detective Mitchell on the neighborhood canvass.”
You nodded.
“Got it.”
Spencer looked up.
For just a second, his expression fell.
Then he smiled.
“Good.”
You looked at him.
“You’re not coming?”
“No.”
“Okay.”
You smiled.
“See you later.”
Spencer nodded.
“See you.”
You left with Mitchell.
The second the door closed, Morgan looked at Spencer.
“You know, if you want to go with them, you could just ask.”
Spencer frowned.
“Why would I?”
Morgan shrugged.
“I don’t know.”
He smiled.
“Maybe you like her.”
Spencer looked horrified.
“I don’t.”
Morgan laughed.
“Okay.”
“I don’t.”
“Whatever you say, Pretty Boy.”
⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆
You and Mitchell spent the next few hours walking through the neighborhood.
He was good at his job.
Very good.
He noticed details.
He asked intelligent questions.
And he was funny.
You found yourself laughing more than you expected.
“So,” he said as you walked back toward the car, “how long have you been with the BAU?”
“A few years.”
“Like it?”
“I love it.”
“Must be interesting.”
“It is.”
He smiled.
“What do you do when you’re not chasing serial killers?”
“Read.”
“That’s it?”
“Watch movies.”
“Anything else?”
“Sleep.”
He laughed.
“You’re a wild one.”
You smiled.
“I try.”
He looked at you.
“You seeing anyone?”
You blinked.
“No.”
“Good.”
You laughed.
“That’s a little forward.”
“I’m sorry.”
He didn’t sound sorry.
You shook your head.
“You’re fine.”
Neither of you noticed Spencer standing across the street.
He’d been sent to check another location nearby.
He’d stopped when he saw you laughing.
He watched Mitchell lean closer.
Something uncomfortable twisted in his stomach.
He hated it.
He hated the way Mitchell made you laugh.
He hated the way you smiled at him.
And he hated the fact that he wanted to be the person standing beside you.
But he didn’t have the right.
So he turned away.
⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆
You returned to the hotel that evening.
Spencer was sitting on the edge of his bed, reading.
You walked in.
“Hey.”
He looked up immediately.
“Hey.”
“How was your afternoon?”
“Good.”
He nodded.
“Good.”
You dropped your bag.
“Mitchell’s really nice.”
Spencer’s eyes flicked toward you.
“Is he?”
“Yeah.”
“He seems…”
You waited.
“Confident.”
You laughed.
“That’s one word for it.”
Spencer nodded.
Then went back to his book.
You watched him.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes.”
“You sure?”
“Yes.”
“You’ve been weird all day.”
He looked up.
“I’m not being weird.”
“You are.”
He sighed.
“I’m just tired.”
You smiled.
“Okay.”
You walked into the bathroom to change.
Spencer stared at his book.
He had been reading the same sentence for the past ten minutes.
⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆
The next morning, you found a coffee sitting on your desk.
You picked it up.
Your exact order.
You looked around.
Spencer was sitting at his desk.
“Did you get this for me?”
He looked up.
“Yes.”
You smiled.
“Aw.”
He immediately looked down.
“I was getting one anyway.”
“You don’t even like starbucks.”
“I know.”
You laughed.
“You’re sweet.”
He shrugged.
“It’s not a big deal.”
You took a sip.
“It is to me.”
Spencer smiled.
You didn’t notice the way he watched you.
Morgan did.
He walked over.
“That’s adorable.”
Spencer frowned.
“What?”
“You bought her coffee.”
“She likes coffee.”
“You memorized her order.”
“I have a good memory.”
“You went to a coffee shop fifteen minutes out of your way.”
“It was on the way.”
“It absolutely wasn’t.”
Spencer sighed.
“Can we not do this?”
Morgan smiled.
“Sure.”
He walked away.
Then turned around.
“You’re in love with her.”
Spencer’s face turned red.
“Morgan.”
⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆
The case continued.
So did Spencer’s increasingly obvious hints.
He started saving the seat beside him on the jet.
“You can sit here.”
“You don’t have to save it for me.”
“I know.”
But he always did.
He started bringing you snacks.
“You haven’t eaten.”
“How do you know?”
“You get quiet when you’re hungry.”
He started remembering every tiny detail.
“You’ll want the window seat.”
“Why?”
“You like looking at the clouds.”
He noticed when you were tired.
“You should sleep.”
“I’m fine.”
“You’ve been awake for eighteen hours.”
“So have you.”
“I’m not the one pretending I’m not exhausted.”
He noticed when you were cold.
Without saying anything, he’d take off his jacket and place it around your shoulders.
You’d smile.
“Thanks, Spence.”
He’d smile back.
“Anytime.”
And every time, you told yourself the same thing.
it’s just Spencer.
Spencer was thoughtful.
Spencer was kind.
Spencer cared about everyone.
It didn’t mean anything.
At least, that’s what you told yourself.
⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆。゚✶°⋆
One evening, you and Mitchell were standing outside the hotel.
He was telling you a story about his first day as a detective.
You laughed.
Spencer watched through the window.
Emily walked up beside him.
“You’re staring.”
“I’m observing.”
“You’re jealous.”
“I’m not.”

The bullpen at Quantico was already buzzing when you arrived that morning.
You barely had time to set your coffee down before Hotch stepped out of his office.
“Conference room. Five minutes.”
You glanced toward Spencer’s desk.
He was already looking at you.
He quickly looked back down at the book in his hands.
You smiled.
“Morning, Reid.”
He looked up again.
“Morning.”
There was something about the way he said it that made you pause.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“You were staring.”
“I wasn’t staring.”
“You were.”
He looked down at his book again.
“I was looking.”
“That’s usually what staring is.”
He smiled faintly.
“Good morning.”
You smiled back.
“Better.”
Five minutes later, everyone was gathered around the conference table.
Hotch stood at the front with a file in his hands.
“We have three murders in Vermont over the past six weeks.”
JJ clicked the remote.
Photographs appeared on the screen.
“All three victims were found in hotel rooms. All were traveling alone, and all had checked into their hotels less than twenty-four hours before they were killed.”
You frowned.
“Different hotels?”
“Yes,” Hotch said. “Different towns.”
Spencer leaned forward.
“Any connection between the victims?”
“None that we’ve found.”
You looked at the photographs.
“Then the hotel itself is probably important.”
Spencer glanced at you.
“Agreed.”
Hotch nodded.
“We think the unsub has some way of monitoring hotel guests.”
Garcia’s voice came through the speakerphone.
“And before anyone asks, I’ve already hacked-”
“Garcia,” Hotch warned.
“Investigated,” she corrected. “I’ve investigated the reservation systems.”
You smiled.
“Of course you have.”
“Thank you, sunshine.”
Hotch continued.
“We’re splitting into pairs. You and Reid will handle the hotels in the northern part of the county.”
You looked at Spencer.
He was already looking at you.
“Partners,” you whispered.
He nodded.
“Partners.”
Emily smirked from across the table.
You ignored her.
♡ ── .✦ ── ♡
The drive to Vermont was surprisingly easy.
Mostly because Spencer talked.
A lot.
You didn’t mind.
You actually liked listening to him.
He explained his theories about the unsub, jumped between behavioral psychology and statistics, and somehow ended up explaining why certain types of hotel carpeting were more common in certain regions.
You stared at him.
“How did we get here?”
He blinked.
“I’m sorry.”
“No, keep going.”
“You want me to?”
“Absolutely.”
He smiled.
And that was the problem.
You liked his smile.
You liked the way his eyes lit up when he talked about something he loved.
You liked the little crease between his eyebrows when he was concentrating.
You liked how he always remembered tiny things about you.
You liked him.
You had for a while.
You just hadn’t told him.
And you weren’t sure you wanted to.
Not yet.
Because Spencer Reid was your coworker.
Your partner.
Your friend.
And you were currently chasing a murderer.
There were already enough distractions.
You didn’t need another one.
Especially not one that made your heart beat faster every time he looked at you.
♡ ── .✦ ── ♡
The hotel you were staying at was small, quiet, and almost completely booked.
The receptionist handed you a key.
“Room 214.”
You looked at the key.
Then at Spencer.
“One room?”
The receptionist looked apologetic.
“I’m sorry. We’re completely booked because of a conference.”
You glanced at Spencer.
He was staring at the floor.
“Do you have two beds?”
“Yes.”
You sighed.
“Okay.”
Spencer nodded.
“That’s fine.”
You picked up your suitcase.
“Come on, roommate.”
His ears turned pink.
♡ ── .✦ ── ♡
The room was actually pretty nice.
Two beds.
A small desk.
A window overlooking the parking lot.
You put your suitcase on one bed.
Spencer put his on the other.
“See?” you said. “Not so bad.”
“No.”
He looked around.
“It’s fine.”
You smiled.
“You’re acting weird.”
“I’m not.”
“You are.”
“I’m just tired.”
“You’ve been acting weird since Hotch paired us.”
He froze.
“I have not.”
You laughed.
“Okay.”
He opened his laptop.
You sat on the bed.
Neither of you said anything for a moment.
Then you noticed him looking at you.
You raised an eyebrow.
“What?”
“Nothing.”
“You keep doing that.”
“Doing what?”
“Looking at me.”
His face turned red.
“I wasn’t.”
“You were.”
“I was thinking.”
“About?”
He looked away.
“The case.”
You smiled.
“Sure.”
♡ ── .✦ ── ♡
The investigation took two days.
You and Spencer interviewed hotel managers, reviewed security footage, and spoke to employees.
Eventually, you found something.
Every victim had spent time alone in a second floor hallway shortly before they disappeared.
And every hotel had cameras covering the elevators.
“The unsub is watching them,” you said.
Spencer nodded.
“He’s looking for people who are alone.”
“And he knows when they leave their rooms.”
“Which means he could be an employee.”
“Or someone with access to the security system.”
Spencer looked at you.
“You really are good at this.”
You smiled.
“Thanks.”
He looked away.
You noticed.
“Spencer?”
“Hm?”
“You’re doing it again.”
“What?”
“Getting nervous.”
“I’m not nervous.”
“You are.”
“I’m really not.”
You stepped closer.
“Look at me.”
He did.
His eyes immediately softened.
You smiled.
“There you go.”
He swallowed.
You stepped away.
Neither of you said anything.
♡ ── .✦ ── ♡
That night, you were both sitting on your respective beds going over the case.
Spencer had been unusually quiet.
Too quiet.
You closed your file.
“Okay.”
He looked up.
“Okay what?”
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“Spencer.”
“I’m fine.”
“You’ve been staring at the same page for ten minutes.”
He looked down.
He hadn’t even realized.
“I…”
He stopped.
You waited.
He closed his book.
“I need to tell you something.”
Your stomach flipped.
“Okay.”
He stood.
Then sat back down.
Then stood again.
You smiled nervously.
“You’re making me nervous.”
“I’m sorry.”
“Don’t apologize.”
He took a breath.
“I like you.”
You went completely still.
He continued quickly.
“I’ve liked you for a long time. And I’ve tried not to, because we’re coworkers, and because you’re my friend, and because I know how complicated it could become.”
You didn’t interrupt.
“But being in this room with you has made it harder.”
He laughed nervously.
“Actually, that’s an understatement.”
You smiled.
“I’ve been trying to act normal, but I can’t.”
He looked at you.
“Every time you touch my arm, I think about it for hours. When you smile at me, I forget what I’m saying. When you sit next to me on the jet, I spend the entire flight trying not to look at you.”
Your heart was pounding.
“Spencer…”
“I know it’s probably a terrible time to say this.”
“It is.”
His face fell.
You immediately softened.
“Not because I don’t feel the same.”
His eyes widened.
“You do?”
You nodded.
“I like you too.”
He stared at you.
“You do?”
“Yes.”
He smiled.
It was probably the biggest smile you’d ever seen from him.
Then he stepped closer.
You could tell what he was going to do.
He leaned toward you.
You gently placed a hand against his chest.
He stopped.
You smiled.
“Not yet.”
His expression fell slightly.
“What?”
You laughed softly.
“Not until the case is over.”
“But…”
“Spencer.”
He sighed.
“I understand.”
“You don’t.”
“I do.”
“You absolutely don’t.”
He looked at you.
You were smiling.
“This is already distracting enough.”
He glanced at your hand against his chest.
“You’re right.”
“Exactly.”
“So…”
He hesitated.
“When the case is over?”
You nodded.
“When the case is over.”
He smiled.
“That’s a long time.”
“It’s hopefully only a few days.”
“That’s still a long time.”
You laughed.
“You’re going to survive.”
“I’m a profiler. I can handle it.”
“Can you?”
He thought about it.
“No.”
You laughed.
“Goodnight, Spencer.”
“Goodnight.”
You turned off your lamp.
For several minutes, the room was silent.
Then…
“Are you awake?”
“Yeah?”
“Can I ask one question?”
You smiled into your pillow.
“What?”
“How long have you liked me?”
You turned over.
“Goodnight, Reid.”
He laughed quietly.
“That’s not an answer.”
“It is tonight.”
♡ ── .✦ ── ♡
The next morning, you found the breakthrough.
You were reviewing security footage when you noticed something.
“Spencer.”
He rushed over.
“What?”
You pointed to the screen.
“Look at the employee badge.”
He leaned closer.
“The same person appears at all three hotels.”
“Exactly.”
You looked at each other.
“He’s our guy.”
Within hours, local police had a suspect.
And within another few hours, they had him.
The case was over.
You and Spencer stood outside the hotel that evening, watching the police cars pull away.
He turned toward you.
“So…”
You smiled.
“So.”
“The case is over.”
“It is.”
He nodded.
“I believe we had an agreement.”
You laughed.
“We did.”
He stepped closer.
“Are you still sure?”
You looked at him.
“Very.”
He smiled.
Then he leaned toward you.
This time, you didn’t stop him.
The kiss was soft.
Careful.
A little nervous.
But unlike the night before, there was no case to distract you.
No files.
No unsub.
No reason to pull away.
When you separated, Spencer looked at you with the most relieved expression you’d ever seen.
“Wow.”
You laughed.
“Still overwhelmed?”
He smiled.
“Extremely.”
You took his hand.
“Good.”
He squeezed your fingers.
“I’ve been waiting for that for approximately forty-eight hours.”
“Only forty-eight?”
“Forty-eight hours, seventeen minutes.”
You stared at him.
“You counted?”
He looked embarrassed.
“Maybe.”
You laughed and leaned against his shoulder.
“I think I’m going to like having you as my boyfriend.”
He went completely still.
“Boyfriend?”
You looked up.
“Unless you don’t want…”
“No.”
He smiled.
“Yes. Definitely.”
You smiled.
“Good.”
He intertwined his fingers with yours.
And for the first time since the case began, Spencer Reid wasn’t overwhelmed by the fact that he liked you.
He was just happy that you liked him too.
Check-in for two
The first time Spencer Reid holds your hand, it’s for the case.
At least, that’s what you tell yourself.
The resort is crowded, which makes it the perfect place for someone to disappear. Couples everywhere. Families. Honeymooners. People who look like they don’t have a single thing in the world to worry about.
You and Spencer are supposed to blend in.
A young couple on vacation.
Three years together.
Celebrating your anniversary.
You almost laugh when you see the wedding rings in the evidence envelope.
“Do we really have to wear these?” you ask.
Spencer adjusts his glasses.
“Couples who have been together for three years are statistically more likely to wear matching jewelry.”
You stare at him.
“Did you just research what couples do?”
“I researched what couples typically do.”
“That’s somehow worse.”
He smiles.
Just barely.
Then he reaches for your hand.
You look down.
His fingers settle between yours.
“Ready?”
You nod.
“Ready.”
⋆。°✩ ───────── ✩°。⋆
The first night, Spencer insists you take the bed.
“I’ll sleep on the couch.”
“You’re not sleeping on that.”
He looks at the tiny loveseat.
“I’ve slept in smaller places.”
“You’re six foot two.”
“Six foot one.”
“You’re arguing about your height right now?”
“I don’t like inaccuracies.”
You laugh.
He smiles.
And you notice that he keeps looking at you.
Not staring.
Just little glances.
When you’re unpacking.
When you’re brushing your hair.
When you’re sitting on the edge of the bed scrolling through your phone.
Every time you look up, he’s already looking away.
You don’t think much of it.
Spencer is observant.
That’s what he does.
⋆。°✩ ───────── ✩°。⋆
On the second day, you discover he remembers your coffee order.
You don’t even remember telling him.
You walk into the little café downstairs, still half asleep, and Spencer hands you a cup.
“Vanilla latte. Oat milk.”
You blink.
“You remembered?”
“I remember things.”
“Apparently.”
He smiles.
Then, after a second, he adds,
“You always order it when you’re tired.”
You look at him.
He looks down at his own coffee.
“It’s useful information.”
“Right.”
“Behavioral patterns.”
“Right.”
“Not weird.”
“I didn’t say it was weird.”
“You were thinking it.”
You laugh.
He smiles into his coffee.
And you don’t notice the tiny smile that stays there after you turn away.
⋆。°✩ ───────── ✩°。⋆
On the third day, someone at the pool starts flirting with you.
Spencer is sitting beside you, reading.
At least, that’s what he’s doing.
You can tell he’s stopped reading because he hasn’t turned the page in seven minutes.
The man approaches.
“Hey.”
You look up.
“Hi.”
“Are you here alone?”
Before you can answer, Spencer closes his book.
“No.”
The man looks at him.
Spencer looks back.
There’s something different in his expression.
Something almost cold.
The man glances at your matching rings.
“Oh.”
Spencer’s hand finds yours.
It’s casual.
Natural.
Except his thumb starts rubbing slowly over your knuckles.
The man leaves.
You turn toward Spencer.
“You okay?”
“Fine.”
“You looked annoyed.”
“I wasn’t.”
“You absolutely were.”
“I was observing.”
“You slammed your book shut.”
“I finished the page.”
“You were halfway through it.”
He adjusts his glasses.
“I read quickly.”
You laugh.
He’s still looking at the direction the man walked.
You squeeze his hand.
He looks down.
Then at you.
And his expression softens immediately.
⋆。°✩ ───────── ✩°。⋆
On the fourth day, you wake up with your head on his shoulder.
You don’t remember falling asleep there.
Spencer is awake.
Very awake.
His arm is resting carefully around you.
You lift your head.
“Sorry.”
He immediately shakes his head.
“You don’t have to apologize.”
“I fell asleep on you.”
“I know.”
“You could’ve moved.”
“I didn’t want to wake you.”
You stare at him.
He looks away.
Then you notice something.
His hand is still resting lightly against your arm.
He hasn’t moved it.
Neither have you.
“Spencer?”
“Yeah?”
“You’re blushing.”
“I am not.”
“You are.”
“It’s warm.”
“We’re inside.”
“Temperature can fluctuate indoors.”
You grin.
He looks at you.
And for half a second, there’s something in his eyes that makes your smile disappear.
Something soft.
Something nervous.
Something that looks suspiciously like affection.
Then he clears his throat.
“We should get breakfast.”
“Yeah.”
He stands.
And offers you his hand.
⋆。°✩ ───────── ✩°。⋆
On the fifth day, you start noticing.
Noticing the way Spencer always walks on the side closest to the road.
The way he checks whether you’ve eaten.
The way he remembers which foods you don’t like.
The way he keeps an extra hair tie around his wrist because you complained yours broke.
You stare at it.
“Why do you have that?”
He looks down.
“What?”
“The hair tie.”
“Oh.”
He shrugs.
“You needed one.”
“Three days ago.”
“You might need another.”
You smile.
“You’re weird.”
“I’ve been told.”
You take it from him.
Your fingers brush.
He goes quiet.
Then you realize
He’s looking at your hands.
Not your face.
Your hands.
Where the fake wedding ring sits.
You look at him.
“Spencer?”
He looks up quickly.
“Yeah?”
“You okay?”
“Fine.”
“You sure?”
He nods.
“Yeah.”
But his eyes drop to your ring again.
⋆。°✩ ───────── ✩°。⋆
On the sixth night, there’s a storm.
The power flickers.
You hate storms.
Spencer knows this.
He doesn’t say anything.
He just sits beside you.
Closer than usual.
When thunder shakes the windows, your hand finds his.
He looks down.
Then back at you.
“You okay?”
You nod.
“Yeah.”
His fingers close around yours.
“You can sleep.”
“I know.”
“I’ll stay awake.”
“You don’t have to.”
“I want to.”
You look at him.
“Why?”
He hesitates.
Then quietly
“Because I like taking care of you.”
Your heart skips.
He seems to realize what he said.
His cheeks turn pink.
“I mean..”
You smile.
“I know what you mean.”
He smiles too.
But he doesn’t let go of your hand.
⋆。°✩ ───────── ✩°。⋆
By the seventh day, the case is almost solved.
The killer is getting desperate.
You’re getting closer.
And Spencer is getting worse at pretending.
You’re sitting at breakfast when you notice a piece of hair has fallen across your face.
Before you can move it, Spencer reaches over.
He gently tucks it behind your ear.
His fingers linger for half a second.
You both freeze.
His hand drops.
“Sorry.”
You stare at him.
“You don’t have to apologize.”
He swallows.
“I know.”
There’s a pause.
Then you smile.
“You really like me, don’t you?”
Spencer goes completely still.
For once, the genius of the BAU has absolutely nothing to say.
“I-”
You wait.
He looks down at the table.
Then back at you.
“Is it that obvious?”
You laugh softly.
“Only if someone is paying attention.”
He smiles.
“I guess you’re pretty observant.”
“Maybe I learned from you.”
His smile grows.
And underneath the table, his hand finds yours.
This time, there isn’t a case.
There isn’t a cover.
There isn’t an excuse.
Just Spencer Reid holding your hand because he wants to.
And when he looks at you, there’s no pretending left.
Not anymore.

5 Times Spencer Lets Reader Touch Him, and the 1 Time He Touches Her First
1. She fixes his collar.
She notices it before anyone else does.
Spencer is standing beside the conference room table, reading through the case file while everyone else gathers around. His tie is slightly crooked, his collar folded underneath itself on one side.
She stares at it for a few seconds before deciding she can't leave it like that.
"Spencer?"
He looks up immediately.
"Yeah?"
"Your collar."
His hand automatically goes to his neck. "What about it?"
"It's—" She gestures vaguely. "Here."
"Oh."
He tries to fix it himself, but somehow only makes it worse.
She smiles.
"Can I?"
He freezes.
It's such a small question, but she watches his expression change as he processes what she's asking.
Most people at the BAU have learned not to touch Spencer without warning. She has, too.
He looks at her hand, then back at her face.
"...Okay."
She steps closer.
Her fingers gently catch the edge of his collar and straighten it. She smooths the fabric beneath his tie, careful and quick, making sure not to linger.
Spencer goes completely still.
He can feel every tiny movement of her fingertips against his neck.
"There," she says softly. "Better."
She steps away.
Spencer swallows.
"Thank you."
His voice comes out quieter than he intended.
She smiles at him before turning back toward the table.
He spends the rest of the meeting trying very hard not to think about the warmth of her fingers against his skin.
He fails spectacularly.
2. She brushes something from his hair.
They're sitting in the jet.
Spencer has been reading for the past forty minutes, one leg tucked underneath him while the rest of the team talks quietly around him.
He doesn't notice her watching him.
There's a tiny piece of paper caught in his hair.
She reaches toward him instinctively before remembering.
Her hand stops halfway.
"Spencer?"
He looks up from his book.
"You have something in your hair."
He reaches up.
"Where?"
She points.
"Right there."
He feels around for it and completely misses.
"Other side."
He tries again.
"No, you—"
She laughs quietly.
"Can I get it?"
He hesitates.
Then, slowly, he nods.
She reaches over and carefully plucks the tiny piece of paper from his hair.
Her fingertips brush his temple in the process.
Spencer's breath catches.
It's barely a touch.
Barely anything.
But he feels it.
She pulls her hand back immediately.
"Got it."
He stares at her.
She holds up the little scrap of paper between two fingers.
"Thanks," he murmurs.
She smiles.
"Anytime."
Spencer looks back down at his book.
He reads the same sentence six times.
3. She holds his hand.
The case has been bad.
Not dangerous for them, exactly, but difficult.
Too many victims.
Too many families.
Too many things that can't be fixed.
They're sitting in the back of the SUV while the others are inside the precinct.
Spencer's knee is bouncing.
She notices.
"Spence?"
He looks over.
"Yeah?"
"You okay?"
"I'm fine."
His knee keeps bouncing.
She looks down at it before looking back at him.
"You don't look fine."
He gives her a small smile.
"I've been told I'm not particularly good at appearing fine."
She laughs softly.
Then she reaches over.
Her hand settles over his.
Spencer stops breathing for a second.
She doesn't squeeze.
She doesn't say anything.
She simply leaves her hand there.
Giving him the choice.
He looks down at their hands.
He could pull away.
He doesn't.
Instead, his fingers slowly relax beneath hers.
She gives his hand one gentle squeeze.
"I'm here," she whispers.
Spencer looks at her.
Something warm settles in his chest.
"Okay."
His thumb moves slightly beneath her palm.
It's not quite a squeeze back.
But she notices.
And she smiles.
4. She hugs him.
He doesn't expect it.
That's what makes it so startling.
They've just gotten back from a case.
Everyone is exhausted.
Spencer is standing near the elevators, staring blankly at the numbers above the doors when she walks over.
"Hey."
He looks at her.
"Hey."
"You did good today."
He shrugs.
"We all did."
"You did really good."
He gives her a tired smile.
"Thanks."
The elevator dings.
Neither of them moves.
She looks at him for a moment.
Then she steps forward and wraps her arms around him.
Spencer freezes.
Every thought disappears.
Her arms are around his shoulders, her cheek against his chest.
He doesn't know what he's supposed to do.
So he just stands there.
After a few seconds, she starts to pull away.
"Sorry. I should've asked—"
"No."
She stops.
Spencer's eyes widen.
He hadn't meant to interrupt her so quickly.
"I mean..." He swallows. "You don't have to apologize."
She studies his face.
"You're okay?"
He nods.
"Yeah."
A tiny smile appears on her face.
"Okay."
She steps away.
Spencer immediately misses the warmth of her.
The elevator doors begin to close.
He catches them with his hand.
She looks at him curiously.
"Coming?"
He nods.
"Yeah."
He steps inside beside her.
His heart is still racing.
5. She touches his face.
He comes into work sick.
Of course he does.
He insists he's fine.
He's not.
She finds him sitting at his desk, pale and glassy-eyed, staring at the same page for nearly five minutes.
"Spencer."
He looks up.
"I'm fine."
"You look terrible."
"I'm aware that my appearance isn't always—"
"Spencer."
He stops.
She walks over to him.
"You're warm."
"I'm not."
She reaches out and places the back of her hand against his forehead.
He goes completely silent.
Her palm is cool against his skin.
"You have a fever."
"I don't think—"
"You do."
She leaves her hand there for another second.
Spencer's eyes flutter shut.
It's such a simple thing.
Someone caring for him.
Someone touching him without expecting anything in return.
When she finally pulls her hand away, his eyes open again.
"Better?" she asks.
He nods.
"Yeah."
She smiles.
"Good."
She starts to walk away.
"Wait."
She turns around.
Spencer doesn't know why he stopped her.
He just knows that he didn't want the moment to end yet.
"Could you..." He struggles to find the words.
She waits patiently.
"Could you do that again?"
Her expression softens.
"Touch your forehead?"
He nods.
She walks back over.
Her palm settles against his forehead once more.
Spencer closes his eyes.
This time, he smiles.
♡♥♡
The 1 time Spencer touches her first.
She's crying.
Spencer has seen her cry before.
Once.
Briefly.
She had hidden it well enough that no one else noticed.
This time, she isn't hiding it.
She's sitting alone in the conference room after everyone else has gone home.
Spencer finds her by accident.
He stops in the doorway.
She immediately wipes her cheeks.
"Hey."
His heart sinks.
"Hey."
"I'm fine."
He almost smiles.
"You're using my line."
She lets out a tiny, broken laugh.
"Maybe it's a good line."
"It's not."
He steps into the room.
She looks down at her hands.
He doesn't ask what happened.
She clearly doesn't want to talk about it.
So he doesn't make her.
Instead, he stands there.
Quiet.
Present.
She looks up at him.
"You can go home, Spencer."
"I know."
He doesn't move.
Her eyes fill with tears again.
She quickly looks away.
And something inside him twists.
He remembers every time she touched him.
Her fingers straightening his collar.
Her hand in his.
Her arms around him.
Her palm against his forehead.
Every single time, she had given him the choice.
She had waited for him.
So now he makes a choice of his own.
Spencer slowly walks toward her.
He stops beside her chair.
His hand hovers in the air.
For once, he doesn't overthink it.
He gently places his hand over hers.
She looks down.
Then up at him.
His fingers are trembling slightly.
"Is this okay?" he asks.
She nods.
"Yeah."
His shoulders relax.
He turns his hand beneath hers, carefully threading his fingers through her own.
She stares at their hands.
Then she looks at him.
Spencer gives her the smallest smile.
"I don't know if this helps."
"It does."
He squeezes her hand.
Just once.
"I can stay."
Her eyes fill with fresh tears.
She leans her head against his shoulder.
Spencer stiffens for half a second.
Then he relaxes.
He tilts his head gently against hers.
Neither of them says anything.
For once, Spencer doesn't feel the need to fill the silence.
His thumb slowly brushes over the back of her hand.
And he realizes something.
He isn't afraid of touching her.
He's only ever been afraid of being touched because he didn't know what people wanted from him.
With her, he knows.
Nothing.
She just wants him there.
And, for the first time, he wants to be there too.

unicorn Frappuccino weekend is coming up and I have to work 😭
like not only do I have to deal with the insane rush that comes every Sunday, but I have to smell that thing all day and it doesn't even taste good 😭😭
and before anyone says "Starbucks workers just complain when they have to do their job" I promise you I am DOING THINGS 😭 Im running around the whole shift, making drinks, cleaning, restocking, doing dishes, warming up food and still getting yelled at by my manager for not doing anything.
but I kinda get why everyone is so excited about it bc 2026 is the new 2016, I would be hyped if I didn't work there.
kinda a crazy first post I just have so many feelings about it 😔
