Anyway, considering the stuff some of the posts I've seen on here mention re: Spamtenna or even just Spamton in general, I think younger me was onto smth here; at this point I think a Deltarune version of this plot would be everyone turning into Spamton clones instead, lol

The crowd roared in confused enthusiasm as Tenna gave a gracious flurry of low-FPS bows, pausing only for the occasional stink-nose at his audience plants who weren’t throwing enough 3D roses.

Eventually, the room fell silent. It was Senshi’s turn to speak.

He puffed out his chest, took a long, sweeping look over the audience… and shook his head.

“I can see not all of you are eating properly.”

The crowd murmured with embarrassment.

“I don’t know who needs to hear this, but it’s time to take the turkey out of your icebox. I have seen the ingenious technology with which your people store food... and I have also seen the waste which results from such convenience.

“The food you take had a life. Beasts grew fat on the grass of the field, plants grew from the sun’s rays, and mushrooms grew from minerals in the cracks of caves. And yet, it sits in your iceboxes, collecting moisture until it perishes.

“Eat what is given to you. Because its life will make you stronger, too.”

Without another word, Senshi left his podium and stepped away from the stage. The crowd murmured in confusion. “Is he really like that?” somebody said. “I only remember reblogging the photosets of him tripping and showing ass.”

Back in the Green Room, Tenna wrung his antennas nervously.

“Y-y-you think they liked me!? They HAD to!! I mean, I don’t know what Asgore was thinking, getting that weird haircut and running that food waste campaign, but… YOU thought I did good, didn’t you, Kris?”

Laios nodded aggressively, a streak of blue face paint peeling from his forehead.

“You did AMAZING, Tenna! By the way, now that we’ve seen all your insider campaign secrets, do you have any more videos of Susie? Especially her tail... If I could get a look at that, I could finally tell if she’s a dinosaur or --”

THWACK. Fake antlers butted Laios’s head.

“LAIOS?? Weren’t we dressed up to help SENSHI???” Marcille hissed, gesturing awkwardly with her hooves.

Suddenly, Tenna turned to the two adventurers.

“Hey, WAIT a second. SOMETHING’s not right here...”

Laios and Marcille held their breath.

“Where the heck are my POINTS!?”

Just then, the door opened. Chilchuck took one step into the room, whistling and holding a large bag.

Everyone turned to him.

Chilchuck paused, took a step backwards, and closed the door.

“CHILCHUCK!!!” yelled Tenna.

“How come Chilchuck got to stay Chilchuck!?” yelled Marcille at the same time.

I've just noticed that, after getting rejected from the SUV forth wheel position, Berdly tells Noelle he gives her his "project partner's blessing".

...I may or may not be reading too much into this, because he's Funny Bird Monster, but he doesn’t refer to himself as her friend in his "blessing", does he?

I know Berdly is over-the-top with academic stuff, but this dialogue feels way too impersonal when everything else he says this chapter it's cheesy af and "they def still have a crush on me, trust" type of stuff. He's supportive, yeah, but even when Noelle refers to him as a "great friend" 15 seconds earlier, he doesn't adopt the label and instead chooses to use "project partner" in this specific dialogue. Right after his talking sprite shows him being quietly upset about being excluded, mind you.

Did he just acquaintence-zoned himself? That's the question.

In my opinion, this just adds more to the interpretation of Berdly still thinking his friendship with Noelle was purely based on a non-existent crush. And it's clear to me that, even if he insists on implying the three of them do have crushes on him, he doesn't actually believe that Noelle or anyone else is interested on him like that. At least, not anymore.

What I'm trying to say here is that... I really don't think Berdly believes Noelle when she implies they're still friends. Or at least, he doesn't seem to consider himself Noelle’s friend, because he still acts like Noelle is his. I'm assuming he still had some sort of hope about staying friends when she rejected his advances because he wasn't interested like that on her anyways, but once she asked him to stay to the side– I guess he came to the conclusion that she had no more reasons to have him around. Then, it seems like he accepted that "fact" out loud with this dialogue: a dialogue subtle enough to not be embarrasing, humiliating or, heaven forbid, vulnerable. (P.S. for clarification: it's basically his way of respecting Noelle's boundaries about "not actually considering him a friend" while also trying to stay available for her, all without admiting that the idea hurts).

And about how quick it was– let's just say he has a track record of brushing aside his own feelings for benefit of his non-chalant, confident persona...

all 3 (grey):

-thrives on attention -antagonist-to-ally arc -cares about the MC(s) even when opposing them -deceived by people they trust on multiple occasions -lonely; most people around them don't seem to care for them much (though there is ambiguity to this) -seems fond of their own face -outfit may include shoulder pads and a symbol on the left side of the chest -more self-aware than they initially seem once the layers of denial are peeled back -regularly employs bizarre turns of phrase -occasional victim of slapstick comedy -can die alone in the cold

Papyrus & Berdly (purple):

-forgettable -egg connection? -considered an incompetent antagonist despite having a notably challenging boss battle -primarily a comedic character, so their depth and subtle character development is often forgotten or ignored; they are not perceived as having the capacity to be a serious character -opposes the MC(s) because they don't want to admit that they'd rather be friends; has difficulty expressing their feelings because they prioritise upholding an image over being vulnerable -incorrectly thinks someone has a crush on them and pretends to reciprocate to avoid hurting their feelings -artistic representation of ideal self has body parts that they don't possess in reality due to the type of monster they are -brings allies together before a final boss showdown -MC(s) have to save them from being controlled by the boss in question; they also protect MC(s) from the boss -makes people food they don't actually want -projects their desire for connection onto people with whom they want to be friends -MC(s) may insult them; they interpret these interactions as positively as they can -best friends with a lesbian -struggles to read social cues -recognises when you're on the Bad Route and tries to stop you; their death is considered a turning point for the route (you cross a line) -can get electrocuted onscreen -confusing job situation -scarf or cape?

Papyrus & Tenna (orange):

-has an agreement with an individual who wears armor and who doesn’t plan to uphold their end of the deal -seems to struggle with distinguishing certain individuals whom they might be expected to be able to recognise or identify -proposed explanations for the above include: a) they are stupid, b) they are faking it, c) they just need glasses (they do not have eyes) -breaks the fourth wall sometimes but don’t even worry about it -everything is completely fine with them, no problems or issues here (uses aggressive optimism as a deflection tactic) -bad at lying on the spot, but good enough at covering things up through the power of plausible deniability that certain details about their relation to other characters still remain a mystery -wants people to like them (explicitly conflates popularity and love); opposes MC(s) in hopes of achieving this goal -primarily white/red/yellow/black colour scheme -much attention is given to their dynamic with another, more popular character, but rarely to them as an individual -presents MC(s) with challenges to both entertain and obstruct them; will provide assistance if necessary -may imprison the MC(s) to stop them from progressing -will prevent the MC(s) from dying in certain battles -potential to hold a position of power where they live -has bedtime stories read to them -MC(s) fight them in the snow -dialogue has a unique appearance -occasional dog behaviour -lethal dismemberment

Berdly & Tenna (green)

-in denial about the fact that the people they rely on don't really need them; afraid of being abandoned but know that it is inevitable -the worst endings for them involve dying partly as the result of those peoples' actions -in the worst outcomes someone whom they previously searched for goes looking for them in turn, but is unable to find them -makes a deal with another more powerful antagonist at least partly for their own benefit; discarded as soon as they stop being useful -experiences arm injury after defying the character in question -dynamic with another character whose attention they desperately want, who denies it to them and possibly finds them annoying; the dynamic is usually analysed through this surface-level reading alone -however, it is later revealed that in reality, the other character has deliberately taken advantage of their trust to use them as a pawn (possibly with the goal of helping someone whom both care about) -sometimes interpreted as evil or manipulative because their antagonistic actions are seen as deliberate or calculated, when in reality they are motivated by fear and desperation -ostensible allies abandon or avoid them (but may try to help later); they are completely normal about this -defines their identity around a specific quality; at their lowest point admits that they don’t actually believe that they possess said quality -in a position of vulnerability that often goes unacknowledged -there are multiple ways to inflict suffering on them -has gold statue(s) of themself made -retro game appreciater -victim of neglect

Papyrus (red):

-Undertale-only (for now) -if killed his death is not left ambiguous -people are notably affected if he dies -already has genuine reliable connections with family and friends -will never kill the MC no matter what -focused on the future

Berdly (blue):

-just a kid (teenager) -bad outcome for him that doesn't involve death -not good at lying, but his lies are more easily believed because he commits to the bit too hard -fights (and potentially dies) on his friends' behalf -focused on the present
