I've been having my emulator dump textures from DMC2, but the amount of duplicates and me being sure which texture belongs to made me give up on renaming them.
😭

Okay, having finished DMC2 and mulled it over, I think I'm just gonna gush about Lucia for a bit since I've complained enough about the game.
Firstly, its so refreshing playing a female protagonist in the DMC Sausage fest. Trish and Lady are fun in 4 SE, but they were never playable in their own games. Despite the bullshit of 2, Lucia is SO much fun to play. Her fighting style matches her personality, her daggers & elephant tasks are cool, her DT is pretty, and the amulet system is cool.
Gameplay aside, if I had a nickel for every time Dante met and adopted demon that I fucking ADORED, I'd have two nickels which isn't a lot but it's wild that I have a type in this franchise the series
Lucia's identity crisis, though kind of underdeveloped, is really good. She's such a proud member of her plan that the twist that she's Arius' creation is generally heart breaking, and the fact that she offers are life for the end, choosing to die protecting humanity is equally tragic. Although I feel weird about "Devils Never Cry" (because why the fuck are you call the games Devil May cry then???), I love that it's what saves her because that's what DMC is about: valuing humanity a set of values, not a biological destiny. Lucia is still a protector. Lucia is still Matier's kid. She is still everything she believed her to be and arguably more so because she CHOSE to be human.
Lucia is the best part of DMC 2 in every regard and I'm sad she's trapped in the weakest entry in the franchise.
If anyone has good Lucia fics to recommend, I'm all ears.
With that, I HAVE FINISHED EVERY DEVIL MAY CRY
more dmc2 stuff
now kiss.
since heaven doesn't exist in dmc i like to imagine that not all human souls go to hell and are reincarnated into trees, rocks, grass, animals and the like.
weird fantasy creature bs: literally cannot experience ptsd but will have the tism and an anxiety disorder
with twilia getting the two confused
i just know some psychology nerd (ily guys) will lose their mind over this. when i'm trying to make a species of demon as alien as possible. i tend to go in with the "they just so happen to be highly intelligent animals" mindset(though they're not literal animals), as that is what i am most familiar with when it comes to xenofiction, i've only read wings of fire, watership down and One book of warriors 😭

i just made some bullshit (hi younger matier i am so sorry for the goofy proportions)
this is just the basic concept atm there will be changes, i just needed to get it out of my head before exploring and refining it
this is never going to be finished, huh.
ah, darn. i was looking up if theres any as combat ideas for Lucia. this is pretty cool though, especially 6:22
Question: Do the demons of Devil May Cry go into the "Christian demons" or the "Japanese demons" archetypes.
They're not fallen angels lead by Satan, so they're not Christian, despite the use of some names from The Commedia. But they're not quite in the Japanese tradition of demons- a syncretic blend of Shinto youkai, Buddhist ashura, and Sino-cultural influence.
Demons in DMC seem to come from a wider pop cultural tradition where demons are simply malevolent beings from another dimension. Such demons have physical forms, racial characteristics, and a culture, can mutate from humans and can also be artificially created and/or bound to weapons and machines. Their hell dimension isn't necessarily an afterlife for humans, though it can be. You can see this tradition in Urotsukidouji, Wicked City, Buffy/Angel, Doom, Warhammer 40,000, Magic's Phyrexia, and somewhat in Berserk's Apostles.
If anything, they tend to line up more with Islamic and Arabic traditions surrounding evil jinn, a hidden, dangerous Other that surrounds the human realm, while still maintaining a semi-physical form and individual personalities.
idm wrabbit being a hypocrite, that man immediately went to some form of doomerism after the only people he has cared about got massacred right in front him. the victim becomes the abuser, so to speak.
when i first saw season 1, i also thought he was being stupid with the whole "im going to tear down the walls even though mundus is definitely going to be there" plan. but after thinking about it more and talking with my friend, i feel like it could have been expanded upon more to prevent the confusion.
i love characters that just want to burn the entire world down after a traumatic event has occurred. more particularly if a loved one is involved.
i just wish this show was written better.

throwing this out here so my brain won't be contaminated by negativity since my mental health has been unsteady lately. i like talking to myself while surrounded by padded walls.
if vergil gets a pass for indirectly killing civilians in dmc3 then directly killing them with his demonic half in the fifth by the fanbase...i also think mary in the netflix series should also be given some leeway.
the problem is the innocent demons she has killed are supposed to be stand-ins for muslins and arabs. which is why so many people (i think) including me are bothered by it.
besides the second season overwhelming me (surprised i didn't get overstimulated, i was having genuine brain fog watching it) and forgetting like 90% of the plot afterwards, Dante saying "we're sons of Eva" makes me want to shrivel up and die.
despite the first (second?) episode having to tell us why Dante is still cool with Lady in his interview, I wish he was a little more...hurt? resentful? it also feels weird of him to be so open about his past towards a total stranger too.
im disappointed that lucia was not in this season. if this show's version of "Chi" was actually her and not just the actor confusing the game's lore with the show's (which I honestly can't blame her for) then damn...i would actually be bothered by a character's change in direction for once.
i didn't mind vergil being abducted by mundus and being groomed into his personal soldier since i literally Called It and have always suspected that this series is taking more from the first game and novel's lore. i just wish it was executed differently and have vergil actually start questioning mundus' ways as he got older, as he has the (unfortunately still relevant, to a degree) makaians locked up in his dungeons. unless he wasn't made aware of it???? which i guess could explain it. still dont like how its done though.
