Doc Watson and David Holt - "Shady Grove"
Doc is perhaps the king of bluegrass guitar. He has a mighty fine voice, too.
Shady Grove, like many bluegrass standards, evolved from traditional English, Irish and Scottish folk ballads that found a home in the Appalachian mountains and never really left. Centuries later these same songs can still be heard, albeit in slightly different arrangements and context.
Doc Watson also sings "Shady Grove's" ancestor, "Matty Groves", an English folk ballad from the 17th Century.
Gillian Welch, Dave Rawlings and The Old Crow Medicine Show - "The Weight"
Something a little more slow, and a little more modern. Â This bluegrass version may even top The Band's, "Last Waltz" performance of "The Weight".
Bill Monroe and The Blue Grass Boys - "I'm Working On A Building"
As "The Father of Bluegrass", Bill Monroe helped to popularize Appalachian mountain music over the course of 60 years, first through radio appearances and dance hall gigs, and then later by appearing on TV and touring the world.
Penned by Felice and Boudleaux Bryant, but made famous by The Osborne Brothers, "Rocky Top" is the official state song of Tennessee.
Interesting Fact:Â The Bryants also wrote "Love Hurts" and "All I Have To Do Is Dream"

The Seldom Scene - "Wait a minute"
John Duffey, the lead singer was a real funny character, with even stranger hair, but boy could he harmonize.
Tony Rice  - "Church Street Blues" by Norman Blake
The deadstrings01Â in the comments say it all,
Ever wonder how to make a 6 string guitar sound like a symphony?
Compare it to the original by Blake.
The Del McCoury Band play the classic Ole Bella Reed song, "High On A Mountain"Â
Roscoe Holcomb goes "Across the Rocky Mountains" with Pete Seeger in tow.
Sadly this video is now private. Looking for another source.
Clarence Ashley goes...CUCKOO!
