I imagine Georgie got him as a kitten at some point during college, since Jon knew him, though Canon might contradict this, I don't remember. But anyway.

Georgie brings him home one day. She got him from the animal shelter, having fallen in love with him at first sight after seeing his big, bright eyes through the metal bars of his cage. He's so small that his entire body fits in one hand. The first time she holds him, he purrs so enthusiastically he nearly falls out of her grasp.

His new life is scary. There are some constants that help him to thrive; his food dish is nearly always full, and when it isn't, his vocal complaints usually rectify that situation pretty promptly. Georgie always comes home at the same time every day, showering him with attention. And of course Jon is often there as well.

The Admiral loves Jon. He gives him treats when Georgie isn't looking and he knows how to scratch behind his ear just so. He allows the Admiral to take custody of his lap for hours at a time; it's a nice, warm spot to take a nap.

It's always Georgie and Jon. He loves them both. They both play with him, feed him, pet him, fold rather easily to his demands.

And then one day Jon leaves and doesn't come back.

Georgie is sad about it for awhile. Sad and angry. He can tell, and so he curls up on her lap and purrs and she pets him and that sadness and anger fades a little bit. It comes back less and less as the weeks pass, as the Admiral no longer waits by the door for Jon to come home.

Years pass.

And then one day Jon comes back.

He's different now, but he smells and feels the same underneath all the exhaustion and pain and animal fear. His voice is the same, and the Admiral can't help but purr as he curls up in his lap as Jon speaks into his strange little black box. After some time, Jon stops speaking. He sets the box down and stares at the wall for several long minutes, fingers idly scratching at that spot behind the Admiral's ear.

Then he starts to shake and tears fall down his face.

"I think I'm changing," Jon whispers, a tremulous confession. "I think I'm turning into something terrible. And I don't think I can do anything to stop it."
