Not love, not romance – just attraction and fleeting moments of sincerity.
I don't believe anything like love is possible in their case. They hate each other, yet starve for each other. No cheek kisses or goodnight wishes. Paranoia, inability to relax, constant tension. Adler is a dear friend/sworn enemy to Bell. Bell for Adler is a triumph of his methods, an interesting test subject, and maybe a useful tool. Not love. Not normal relationship.
But Adler, on his way to Duga, thinks that maybe in another world they could have been good friends. A bloodied Bell, getting to his feet after a fight, thinks the same. Perhaps there is a world where they are close. But in this reality, they cannot coexist.
Their relationship is vivid, intense, but incapable of lasting a long time. No happy ending for them.
