Turismocity: Corporate Profile & History
Overview
Turismocity is an online travel marketplace and metasearch engine headquartered in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Founded in 2014 by AndrĂ©s Malenky, Julián Gurfinkiel, Eugenio Fage, and MartĂn Levy, the platform allows users to compare prices for flights, hotels, and travel assistance from multiple airlines and travel agencies in a single query.
Currently, the company operates globally and serves over 7 million unique monthly users across Latin America and the United States.
History
Turismocity launched in Argentina with the objective of aggregating fragmented travel offers into a single search engine. The company is notable for its “bootstrapping” strategy, growing organically without external venture capital funding during its first six years of operation.
Acquisitions & Expansion
In December 2020, Turismocity executed its first major international acquisition by purchasing Farecompare, a US-based flight comparison site with global reach.
In 2021, the company closed its first external investment round of US$ 6 million. This round was led by individual investors and key figures from the Argentine tech sector. Following this capital injection, Turismocity acquired Quanto Custa Viajar, a Brazilian platform specializing in travel cost estimation, to strengthen its foothold in the Brazilian market.
Technology & Services The platform operates primarily as a metasearch engine. Its proprietary technology utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI) to analyze historical price trends and detect “price drops” (flights priced significantly below average).
In recent years, the company has diversified its business model, incorporating direct sales of travel packages and acting as a hybrid between a metasearch engine and an online travel agency (OTA).
