this sure is something

So I found out that Q Hayashida apparently paints on tracing paper, and I couldn’t not give it a shot with this old sketch of Kosabi

sketches to go along with a final project for a class about art history in relation to historical epidemiology. 

my project traces the history of quarantining, masks, and social distancing measures by looking at plague in 17th century Italy, the Manchurian Plague (1910-1911), and the Spanish Flu pandemic (1918-1920). 

on the left we have Dr. Wu Lien-teh in front of a railway wagon converted into a quarantine station during the Manchurian Plague. 

on the right is a masked woman during the 1918 Flu pandemic. She stands in front of a door that has a white ribbon tied to its front, signaling that a young child in the house has died due to flu. 

Here’s my prognosis: 

“praise the spires quixotic!”

“Half a step. If you can’t take a step forward, then I’ll step halfway to you.”
