Moved to Ariedesylva!

Hi, Tulitiainen / Neyraei here! I’ve moved over to @ariedesylva, just to get a proper fresh start, the tagging system on this blog was a mess, and since this is a sideblog attached to my main account, my dashboard is 90% everything else than witchy shit. So now I have a completely separate blog, my dashboard will be only witchy stuff, it’s gonna be amazing.

While I’ve mainly reblogged stuff so far both on this and the new blog, I am planning on making my own posts for spells and shit I’ve made. The new blog isn’t 100% done, but it’s good enough to visit. Also I have a good new tagging system in the works, so that’s cool too.

Greetings, witchy tumblr! I have created a free-to-use alphabet for anyone who wants to use it! While I made it with magickal purposes in mind, I won’t stop you for using it in any other way.

I like runes that are easy to write and equally easy to learn and remember, so I tried to make these that particular goal in mind. Most of the runes also resemble their anglo-roman (or is it latin?) counterpart, so it’s also easier to read the runes without having to check its corresponding letter constantly.

I made two versions, one is more round and smooth, while the other is angular and sharp.

I’m bad when it comes to naming things, so the name “desert runes” came from my current desktop picture of a beautiful golden desert during sunset. Also it sounds nice?

I’d love it if you tagged anything that uses this script with #desertrunes or #desertscript so I can see it, especially if you use it to make sigils! Have fun!

Candle Fire Interpretation Every time you light a candle, you can interpret its flame, smoke, and melted wax. Here’s a simple but reliable method: mark the candle’s right side with a “yes” and left side with a “no.” If the first drop of wax flows down on the left side, the answer to your question is no. You can also watch the dancing of the candle fire or the spiral of its smoke.

1. If you light the candle at the first try, its flame is steady and quiet, you’ve chosen the right place to hold your ritual. If the flame is tall and strong, magic will have an effect quickly and efficiently. If you have trouble lighting the candle, outer forces will interfere in your work and prevent you from getting what you want.

2. If during the spell casting the flame is small and seems to be about to go out, there are some obstacles standing in your way and the situation may develop not the way you want it. The candle seems to be “failing” the task. A weak flame indicates instability, possible losses and troubles. Charge the candle with some warm energy to make it stronger. Maybe, you will have to clean your house and yourself, and then repeat the ritual.

3. If the flame of ritual or altar candles jumps, flickers, “dances,” the situation you are working on is heated. There are things which flare up tensions and inflame the passions, regardless of what we do. You will have to decide if it’s good or bad for you at the time being.

4. Using two candles, each symbolizing a certain man, watch closely their flames. If the flame of one of the candles is brighter and stronger, this person has powers and is gaining a victory of the other. If both flames are jumping and unsteady, both people have strong feelings for each other. You will have to decide whether it’s anger, hatred, or passion.

5. If the flame is of some odd color (green, blue, red), look what this color means in magic. Usually, it affects the ritual correspondingly. A blue flame indicates divine energy. If the candle is sparking, you should expect guests. If the soot blackens the glass, something thinks badly of you. You should clean the room. If the soot accumulates on the bottom of the candle case, something counteracts magic, and the results won’t come soon, or you will have to repeat the ritual.

6. The burning of a candle flame can be accompanied with strange sounds, resembling whisper or chatter. A quiet “chirp” indicates pure energy. A midrange “talk” may indicate threat or somebody’s power over the situation. Abrupt, loud sounds mean chaos, while crackling indicates counteraction.

7. Watch the flame direction: bending north, south, west, east, or burning strictly vertically. It indicates the energy surrounding you. Northerly direction indicates physical readiness to hold a ritual – you are ready to work and you’ll get results. You may also have to undergo physical trials. Easterly direction: something powerful assists you, the nature itself is helping you to get what you want, but you have to think about why it does it. Pay attention to your thoughts. Southerly direction: the result of your ritual will be tangible but won’t last long. You will enjoy great success. Westerly direction indicates a powerful magical interference from the outside. You will have to cast extra spells for purification and obstacles elimination, and then repeat the ritual. Pay attention to your emotions.

8. If the smoke is coming at you, your spell will take effect quickly. Otherwise, you will have to make efforts for your wish to come true.

A smoking candle indicates burning of all negative energy and clearance of the events relating to the fulfillment of your wish. After a while, if the way for the fulfillment of this wish is cleared, the candle flame will get brighter. If it doesn’t happen, the wish will come true much later.

A flickering flame indicates that you are not confident that you actually want your dream to come true.

If the flame is weak or goes down, your wish can’t be fulfilled in the nearest future. You have to give it up or reconsider, or figure out what caused this situation, or get energy from other sources. Maybe, you’ve put it wrong. Pay attention to your inner motivation.

If the candle burns away fast, fulfillment of your wish may require additional energy (maybe yours). Or it’s naturally determined, it’s what’s your fate has prepared for you, or it’s very simple.

If the candle explodes, give up your plans. The situation is highly dangerous and you should not upset the balance. Think about your wish, what you want to get and why. Consider its ethics.

If a drop of wax is going down the candle, meditate, as there is new information regarding your request.

If a drop of wax flies off, it’s called a “present.” It means fate has prepared a present for you… a good or a bad one.

Layers of wax which remain until the wick burns down indicate a problem which you will have to handle in future.

A hissing flame and other noises indicate an attempt of someone (angels, ancestors, etc.) to talk to you. Pay attention to your feelings

Witch tip!

So I am one of many witches, it seems, who lets out a little groan when a spell calls for a candle to burn all the way down until it puts itself out. “But that takes FOREVER. And I got shit to do, and I don’t wanna sit here for that long.” Because we wouldn’t ever leave a candle unattended, would we. For other lazy witches like me, or perhaps simply busy witches who don’t got time for that, little tip for ya…

Birthday candles! The fastest burning ones last literally a minute or two, and the slower ones, like these, last for maybe 5 to 10. It feels kinda like cheating, but in the best possible way. Also makes a great addition to a mini travel altar.

I actually can get really into it if there’s a short chant that I feel inclined to repeat. It’s the perfect amount of burn time to get lost in the words, but not so long that you’re all like, “Uh, ok, I can feel myself getting older. We done here?”

I’ve got white, blue, pink, and yellow here, but there’s just about every color in existence if you look hard enough.

Since my best friend and I have a great deal of magickal motivation and are clearly insane, WE COMPLETED THIS READING.

It was roughly 5 hours of direct cardwork and reading, but we took breaks for food and rest, so the total time spent, between taking the cards out of the box and putting them back in, was about 9 HOURS.

I had the privilege of choosing the cards, setting them up, and giving the reading for my much-beloved @haemoferedoll, who was a very patient and open querent.

By the end of the reading, we were decidedly exhausted.  My eyes were blurry, my head was swimming, my brain seemed to have deteriorated into rude, viscous mush, and my throat felt raw and sore from having talked so much.  Even my joints were achy.  I was basically an old crone by the end of it.

But, oh, let me learn you a thing.  THIS SHIT WAS

The cards spelled out a clear story, with significant life lessons, warnings, and even illuminating information about past lives.  I’ve honestly never had a reading with such clear and definitive messages.  It was like the veil just parted to let the universe throw us some handy-dandy-4-1-1.  

For real, the cards were super specific and helpful.

Actually, after we were done, I was told that the reading was “more helpful than years of therapy.”~.  Potential hyperbole aside, I think the reading really did assist real and significant progress for my friend, which I’m wicked pumped about. 

IF YOU WANT TO DO THIS READING YOURSELF, I say to fuckin’ go for it.  It was a great experience as a diviner, an awesome chance to practice, and very affirming of my ability, and @haemoferedoll found it really helpful.  

However, PLEASE read all of the detailed information on the spread and how it works BEFORE you start the reading. If you don’t, you’re gonna have a hell of a bad time.  

Also, be aware that a significant portion of the reading revolves around past lives. If that doesn’t align with your personal beliefs, I would suggest you either skip those parts of the reading, or replace them with specific questions of your own.

ALSO.  I’m pretty sure this reading doesn’t NEED to last so long.  I was extremely thorough, and I’m very picky with choosing cards, so just the process of setting up took almost an hour.  

I also personally went into a lot detail with helping my friend interpret the cards and their story.  If you simply do a quick overview, I bet the reading would be way faster and much less of an ordeal.

For me though, the “ordeal” of it made it an experience.  It was absolutely worth the effort for what I got out of it.

TL;DR: We did the thing.  We liked the thing.  The thing was exhausting.  If you do the thing yourself, do the thing your own way and be smart about it.  

“You Cannot Touch Her” Curse/Binding

This curse is particularly for people who have done harm in the past, and as such already known to be a potential threat. The idea is to keep the person from speaking to or approaching the one you’re trying to protect, and to make them feel watched and judged for their past actions.

You will need the following:

A jar big enough to hold a poppet

Some kind of poppet - I used a wooden one with the offender’s name written on the bottom. A photo could also be used

White out

A black candle

A mixture of black salt & cayenne pepper

A sigil of your own design meaning “You cannot touch [name or pronoun]”

A permanent marker

Light the candle and white out the mouth of your poppet. Roll the poppet in the mixture of black salt and cayenne pepper (black salt tends to stain so keep this in mind). Place it in the jar and seal the lid, leaving the poppet inside under the gaze of dozens of eyes. Write your sigil on the lid. During or after all of this, say the following aloud or think it to yourself (change pronouns accordingly):

You cannot touch her. You cannot speak to her. Think of her and bring this curse upon you. May your tongue catch in your throat if you dare to reach her. May you burn and ache if you come near. May you feel eyes upon your back each time you think her name. They’re watching. I’m watching. May you forever question the gaze of others - Do they know the things you’ve done? I do. I curse you. I bind you. You cannot touch her.

ATTENTION BROKE WITCHES!!!

A while ago I started using a new technique for making some of my sigils. After streamlining the process, I’ve decided to share it with all of you! So, without further ado:

Step One:

Like many other sigil creation methods, the first step is to create a statement of intent. With leaf sigils this can be as simple or as complex as you would like. I usually write out a short sentence in the present tense that states what I want from the sigil.

Optional: If you have a long sentence, or you just want to get rid of a few letters, I would suggest crossing out repeated letters and/or vowels. This is a method used quite often in sigils. It will make the next few steps much easier.

Step Two: 

Draw a stem for your leaf. This is going to be what you organise everything around. It can be straight, curve, short, long, etc. I usually draw a slightly curving line that is similar to most leaf stems.

Step Three:

Arrange the letters from your statement in step one around the stem. The letters should be touching each other and/or the stem of your leaf. I usually do my best to make both sides of the line mirror each other, but its up to you how you place the letters.

Step Four:

Draw a new stem that looks like the last one. Now try to draw an outline around the stem that follows the outside edges of your letters from the previous step. This might be a bit difficult.

You will probably go through several drafts before you find the one that works best. Try to keep your leaf wide enough that it looks like a leaf you might see on a tree. It’s ok to simplify the edges, what is important is that this leaf represents your original statement.

I know lots of us, in the Tumblr Magic(k) Community, love to re-purpose empty glass jars and bottles (and even buy products specifically because of the awesome glass jar/bottle they come in *cough*).

One of the headaches associated with this is cleanly removing the original label. There are a few methods out there on the internet, including using Olive Oil, or Nail Polish Remover, but I’ve had 100% success with a variation on the Dish-Washing Soap method.

I have tried Dish-Washing Soap in the past, but it didn’t work 100% of the time. Recently, I tried something a tad stronger: Dishwasher Powder.

The steps are essentially the same as the Instructables guide using Liquid Dish Soap, but I use the Dishwasher Powder instead:

Use a large pot, or other container big enough to cover the glass jar/bottle

Pour in the powder - I usually use enough to lightly cover the bottom of the pot/container

Add hot water to dissolve the powder

Fill your glass jar/bottle with hot water, to help weigh it down, as well as apply some heat from both sides

Submerge the jar/bottle in the pot/container, adding more water if needed to make sure the jar/bottle label is completely soaked

Let is sit, anywhere from 5 minutes to overnight, depending on the strength of the label’s adhesive

Remove the glass jar/bottle and be amazed at how the label just falls away on its own

Rinse the glass jar/bottle off in clean water, to get the Dishwasher soap residue off, and you’re left with a sparkling, label-free jar/bottle

I usually do multiple jars/bottles at once, so I tend to use a large Dutch Oven so I can fit them all.

Just be careful! With this kind of power, you can inadvertently test the limits of your Significant Other’s understanding and compassion :P
