tuli's eyeballs

thanks! tuli's second surgery went well and now he's just on drops twice a day. not too bad.

WE DID IT!

We not only made, but exceeded our target of $1,400.00 towards Tuli's eye surgery. Thank you to everyone who chipped in-- YOU made Tuli's glaucoma surgery possible, and have reaffirmed our belief that 1) the internets is a magical place and 2) our communities can and will pull through in times of hardship. So, thank you again! All additional funds will be put towards Tulicare-- there are still follow-up doctor visits, and Tuli will likely be on medications for the rest of his life.

NO MORE CONE OF SHAME (HOPEFULLY)

This is Tuli trying out his new kit! Upon hunting around for alternatives to the elizabethan collar, we discovered the 'optivizor' and are trying it out. First impressions are mostly good. We rate it one solid paw up and 1 paw neutral - not bad for a first walk in the rain (and a lack of shield wipers).

This is Tuli... having a late night dinner.

Happily, most of his day was spent sleeping, er, recovering. He was more his puppy self and didn't need pain medications until very late. Hurray! However, the cone of shame continues to frustrate him. Boo!

He got his final walk tonight without wearing the awful cone - so he was able to see and to sniff and to transact all necessary transactions without bashing into everything bashable. 

Upon returning home while still outside our building, we were flagged down by Sanu, the manager of the chain pizza restaurant located next door. Sanu gave Tuli a whole pizza.  A whole surprise get well pizza for Tuli? Two paws up!

This is Tuli... post-surgery.

After a night of restless frustrations - frustrations so acute that they were growled - he is now relaxed and sleeping*.  Awake, he bangs into door frames while walking, knocks over his bowl while drinking, and cannot climb up stairs upon returning home - all limits owed to the big plastic collar.  In his dreams, he is happy away, so sleep and dream buddy.

This is Tuli.  He is undergoing surgery in less than an hour.  He is putting on a (sorta) brave pirate face.

Today, he has selected "Fug You," Ed Sander's book about the "Peace Eye" bookstore and about The Fugs - the band in which Tuli Kupferberg performed. Good choice buddy.

Mr. Tuli Pirate Jowls Wooferberg is scheduled for chemical ablation and eye tumor removal tomorrow (Monday afternoon). While we're relieved and hopeful that his pain will be lessened and managable, Tuli seems less-than-happy about the "no food after midnight" clause.

This is Tuli vs. Gator. It's a game in which everyone wins! We're keeping up the good spirits this weekend as surgery day approaches.

This is Tuli. Today he went to the dogtor, er, doctor for a final once over before surgery. He thought we were just having a pleasant walk on a lovely day. He was wrong. Sorry buddy.

Upon recognizing the situation, Tuli held a protest by sitting down at the front door. He moved only after fully registering his upset. Good! However, when he's very nervous, Tuli sticks out his tongue.  Not so good... I've tried explaining that the cuteness isn't a winning form of discouragement.  It's cute!

This is Tuli waiting politely... for Captain Kirk to save him. Though careful in selecting a magazine, he was too distracted to read.

This is Tuli being probed and shooting me a look that says: Jeffrey?! Help! Jeffrey?! Jeffrey?! Fuck you! Captain Kirk?! Helps!

This is Tuli on patrol. No pizza can evade him! He's been helping to keep the sidewalks of the LES a wee bit less crusty for nearly a decade. Now he needs your help.
