Halo, sobat! Setelah U.S.A melegalkan pernikahan sesama jenis, warga Indonesia berduyun-duyun turut membahas homoseksualitas. Mulai dari warung kopi sampai level akademisi. Namun, sadarkah sobat Bronis bahwa banyak mitos yang menyebar seputar kaum homoseksual? Berikut 7 mitos mengenai gay.

1. Gay adalah penyimpangan seksual Beradasarkan DSM V-TR yang merupakan buku rujukan psikologi seluruh dunia, homoseksualitas sudah tidak lagi digolongkan kedalam penyimpangan seksual. Homoseksualitas dianggap sama dengan preferensi seksual lainnya, sehingga tidak ada alasan untuk mengatakannya sebagai sebuah penyimpangan.

2. Gay menular Gay bukanlah penyakit yang disebabkan oleh virus maupun bakteri sehingga bisa menular. Homoseksualitas adalah masalah preferensi seksual. Homoseksual tidak akan menular hanya karena bergaul dengan gay.

3. Gay mampu disembuhkan Karena menjadi gay bukanlah penyakit maka tidak relevan menggunakan kata disembuhkan. Seksualitas adalah masalah yang fluid, betul jika seseorang bisa berubah preferensi seksualnya. Namun, hal itu bukan berarti preferensi yang satu lebih unggul dibanding yang lain. Penyembuhan ini hanya sia sia belaka, karena perubahan preferensi seksual sifatnya sangat kompleks dan tidak hanya sekedar jampi-jampi mantera suci.

4. Gay adalah pembunuh Sejak kasus Ryan sang jagal terungkap dan disaat yang sama dia memiliki preferensi seksual sejenis, maka media membombardir netizen dengan mengaitkan pembunuhan dengan preferensi seksual. Tidak ada kaitannya sama sekali antara tindak kriminal dengan preferensi seksual. Sebaliknya, jika seorang hetero yang melakukan tindakan pembunuhan tidak pernah diakitkan dengan preferensi seksual. Lihat, betapa cantik media bermain. Ingat Hitler bukan?

5. Gay adalah Barat Kata siapa? Ada budaya daerah yang juga mempraktikkan homoseksualitas seperti halnya warok dan gemblak di reog Ponorogo. Jika ada yang mengatakan bahwa baru di era reformasi ini homoseksualitas begitu marak, hal itu salah. Karena sejak dulu praktik homoseksualitas di Indonesia sudah ada, namun belum seterbuka sekarang saja.

6. Gay selalu metroseksual Banyak dari pria gay yang ternyata tidak doyan dandan, bahkan mereka adalah anak gunung, tidak suka belanja, dan tidak pernah ke spa. Tidak juga pernah ke gym seperti yang selama ini masyarakat pikirkan. Preferensi seksual menyasar siapa saja, tanpa melihat background penampilan.

7. Gay penyebar HIV dan AIDS Data Kementerian Kesehatan yang dirilis per 1 Desember 2014 menunjukkan bahwa pengidap HIV AIDS justru paling banyak berasal dari orang-orang heteroseksual (61,5%), disusul pemakai jarum suntik ( 15,2%), dan baru disusul homoseksual sebesar (2,4%) .

Nah, sadar kan kalau ternyata banyak mitos yang beredar dan sungguh tidak tepat? Semoga bermanfaat dan menghilangkan mitos-mitos yang selama ini menjangkiti masyarakat.

Here’s to the outcasts who’ve never known what it’s like to feel like they belong and have kept their distance all their lives just to make other people feel comfortable.

Here’s to the people who smile even when they want to cry and say they’re fine when they’re not even close.

Here’s to the people who have to socialize every day even though their lives are controlled by irrational anxiety.

Here’s to the people who’ve hurt themselves or attempted suicide because sometimes life just makes the struggle that unbearable.
