I can’t believe we don’t get anymore Mon Mothma.
STRAUME / FLOW (2024), dir Gints Zilbalodis
Acolyte and Colonialism
As I look at responses to Acolyte episode 7, some people are letting their whole ass hang out being like "the jedi were right, coven big bad!!!!".
Yeah, the coven seems to use a mixture of dark and light side force stuff and witchiness. But you (jedi) literally went into their home 3 times without permission, thought you knew better with respect to how the kids should be raised, without any understanding of their culture or what they were really doing. Big "stolen generation" vibes. I am not sorry

The Acolyte- Sol is interesting but a hot mess
I can't believe after everything that went down on Brendok, even though they covered it up, *someone* thought it was a good idea to not only give him a padawan, but to give him Osha. Crazy. That said, he's a very interesting character.
Acolyte Thoughts- Spoilers for Ep 7
Ok, i have thoughts.
I liked this episode, particularly on rewatch.
Sol is a hot mess, i love him but my boi has issues. Wasn't expecting Indira, based on the last flashback in Ep 3, to be the voice of reason.
This episode showed how small acts can snowball with huge consequences. Honestly, the Jedi had no business breaking into that coven and they should have left well enough alone. Yes, maybe the coven was doing stuff that perhaps had dark side elements, but remember---- balance between both! We just don't have enough info on the coven to really understand and that's frustrating. And yes, mother Kori has big time dark side energy but Mother Anesaya doesn't? Interesting.
Also crazy with Sol's kind of weird attachment to Osha instantly- it's actually more about him than her, which seems to be a problem. Indira even comments about him never having a padawan thus far- perhaps hinting that the order knows Sol has attachment issues. But then Sol, after all this mess, becomes Osha's Master? Crazy. I honestly found Sol to be totally unhinged in this episode.
Qimir/The Stranger Doesn't offer freedom
Qimir helpfully says in a previous episode he "collects people"- As soon as Mae decides, once she knows her sister is alive, to turn tail and not do what her "Master" wants- what is Qimir's reaction?: "He'll kill you"- where is the freedom in that? Why shouldn't Mae be able to leave. So Qimir's notion of "freedom" is a bit of a lie. Qimir/The Stranger says to Osha "Mae was a mistake"- so where is Mae's "freedom"? Do we really think The Stranger won't kill her for her betrayal if he gets the chance? So while I totally appreciate a more nuanced approached to dark side users (and again, Manny is killing it here!), much of what he says is vague or outright terrible
Another controversial "Acolyte" Take
If Qimir was 300 pounds and not conventionally attractive we wouldn't be having all these amazing gifsets and discourse. Just saying
Theories about Vernestra in The Acolyte
Spoilers:
I'm kind of bummed Vernestra hasn't had more to do, i hope that changes in the next two episodes. I do think it's very plausible that Qimir has used something related to the dark side so he's much older than he appears and maybe Vern was his master at some point in the jedi order. That would be super interesting. If Vern did cause his scars on his back via light whip, i think it would be likely that they confronted each other after he moved to the Dark Side, but we'll see. Vern clearly can sense that something terrible happened and I think she suspects it was her former pupil. It would be very out of character for Vern (in High Republic writings) to just attack her pupil.

Unpopular opinion about The Stranger/Qimir in The Acolyte
First of all, let me say Manny is killing it, he's amazing. Also, i think this spin on dark side users is fascinating. I still believe the growing relationship (?) between The Stranger and Osha is totally toxic. He is seducing her- and yes, he seems to respect her more than he did Mae (that is also a problem- he "collects people" and then tosses them aside)- but this is still a seduction to the dark side. He knows her vulnerabilities and he has his own agenda. I know there are a lot of Reylo comparisons, which i also thought was toxic, but lets not forget, despite his arms and abs, he literally killed a bunch of Jedi and wanted to kill Mae as soon as she left him (where is the "freedom" in that?). Again, unpopular opinion but I'm not loving the shipping between Osha and Qimir because Qimir is literally playing on her vulerabilities.
Acolyte Ep 5 theories
Would love to hear what people think will happen.
I think we'll have a big jedi fight, I think a lot of Jedi will die- remains to be seen if any of our beloved characters do but i think it is quite possible one or two of them will to raise the stakes (Jecki/Yord). We know from trailers Sol confronts Zipperface. We also know at some point Vernestra joins the battle. I think Sol will die in the end, but not in ep 5. I think Osha will go dark side and we'll get flashbacks in ep 6 or 7 from Mae or Sol's point of view. At the end of the day, I think a lot of our characters are not going to make it out. I think Zipperface is Qmir, but he's an apprentice to a Sith or Sith adjacent/splinter group.
I also think there's the possibility that Koril is somehow involved. I'm not buying that Mae burned down everything, maybe nothing other than her book. I'm wondering if someone else was there on Brendok that was helping to manipulate events? Just thinking out loud. There is more to the coven than meets the eye.
Just gonna walk away from this one…

This is Yoda! She is my baby girl and is turning 3 this year!
I love her so much and thought that yall would like to see her.
Sol
So I now think Sol makes it out of the next episode (#5). I think darth zipperface will take Osha as a prisoner/kidnapping situation. I think quite a few Jedi will die in episode 5, but not Sol.....yet. I think Zipperface will sow doubt in Osha- because that's the best way to kill the "dream" of the Jedi. I think Sol won't get the opportunity to tell Osha what he planned to tell her once they got back to the ship, because she'll be taken. So the Sith apprentice (or whatever he/she is) will tell his version of events that happened on Brandok which may or may not be true. Also, there appears to be something from one of the trailers where either Mae or Osha is holding a knife to Jeki's throat? I don't think this has already happened? From the hairstyle, I think it is Osha, which is so sad. Just my thoughts

So we all caught it, right? 'to kill a jedi without a weapon', and how 'to fight/kill someone who is unarmed and defenceless goes against everything a jedi stands for' and all that jazz?
Mae's lesson isn't to kill a jedi without using any of her own weapons. It's to kill a jedi that doesn't HAVE a weapon. To make her so something that is the antithesis of the jedi code.
Her final lesson is, apparently, on semantics.
We have confirmation that Jecki likes Osha
Directly from Jecki’s actress
“I am so happy you asked that because this is my favorite question ever,” The Acolyte star Dafne Keen gushed when Decider asked her just this question last month. “I think, for Jeckie, it’s very confusing because as a Jedi you’re not allowed to have feelings for other people.”
