This is just Makoto. Not even in any specific verse this is just him like. everywhere. Probably made worse by the fact that he's literally just some ordinary guy, in 9/10 of the situations he finds himself in he should be dead but he's not

#out of character.#BEAT FOR BEAT #one of my favorite scenes involving makoto is actually from Junko-as-Ryoko's point of view over in Zero #the appearance of Makoto focusing and gathering his determination was enough to spellbind and completely disturb her #and the contrast it had to how he carries himself usually #the extent of the strength in his eyes is what got to her i mean

I think in their attempts to make Makoto as plainly average as possible they actually made the guy fucking insane because only Makoto would say that he doesn't want Junko to die. Only Makoto could take a look at the worlds 15 most dangerous territories who have probably committed every crime in the book and go like. "Hm. I don't think they deserve to die so I'm going to rehabilitate them instead". Only Makoto would do this.
