I thought I'd finish more here this week than I actually did (which is to say, something, instead of nothing) but reading visual novels made most of my time slip away before I realized it. I'm going to be traveling again on Monday, for some short work this time, but I learned from the guy I'm working with I have a bunch of downtime between hours so ??? We'll see. Might have to use my hotspot to get online on my laptop.

Makoto's comments in the beginning of dr1 where he talks about how average he is down to his lifestyle and interests is one of those things that becomes absurdly hilarious in hindsight not because of the stuff he goes on to do later BUT because we get a glimpse of what his Normal Person Life was like in the Worst Day Ever short story and we find out he lives in a monty python-esque parody world of absurdism that makes most other ultimates seem normal in comparison.

naegi getting home, having been abandoned by his asshole friends, held hostage by a world renowned thief, being fought for by a random passing kendo master wuxia protagonist, on a bus recreating the events of Speed (1994), causing untold accidents along the way and inadvertently crashing into the main worldbuilding plot of the danganronpa series: huh this day was a little weirder than normal but nothing i cant handle :) whoa hopes peak accepted me they have this guy who can throw a baseball really good!! :o

When it comes to summer fun, I think that Makoto would really like to try out surfing (since in some collab summer art, he's shown to be surfing). Would he be any good at it? I dunno, but he'd have fun learning. I also think that he'd enjoy diving, especially if it gives him the opportunity to observe marine life. Knowing him he'd probably end up with some pretty wild stories to tell.

#in character.#I like to think that whenever someone tries to divine Makoto's future it'll either be ominous as fuck or something will happen to the #ritual or divination that makes it completely inconclusive and it is most usually inconclusive #eg him getting a smudged omikuji instead of one that says strictly good or bad fortune #who knows man.....the gods of fortune sure don't!!!!

On the topic from last night about handholding, it has pretty strong significance for Makoto in his verse as G.uda in F.GO: after the bomb went off in the Prologue, when it seemed like he and M.ash were going to die, when M.ash was actively dying because of her wounds at that, he stayed with her and held her hand even though there wasn't anything he could do to save her life or turn things around. One of the very first actions that eventually led to the world being saved was one person just staying with someone who was dying and doing what they could to comfort and support them

Lowkey it's pretty good that the things going on in the H.SR collabs are happening in the H.SR world and not the T.ype-Moon world is because if it was, the entire concept of magecraft might vanish. The H.GW over in P.enacony was VERY publicized, after all

#out of character.#the explanation of magecraft being kind of like paths is a great one. magecraft is connected to conceptual foundations carved into the #planet/world which are the systems that make magecraft possible in the first place #ironically these things work the more widespread they are (like the Catholic Church has one of the most stable Foundations)#so people reinforce the concept #but it's also true that if magecraft were public it would stop working entirely which is why magi are so hush hush. magecraft runs on #Mystery and it has power exactly bc it's not fully understood or isn't understood at all #once something is understood it loses the Mystery it has #Paths aren't exactly like the Root though #literally everything comes from the Root. like if the Root existed in H.onkai it'd encompass all paths and probably the Imaginary Tree too #and even having a name for the Root isn't exactly correct bc of its ineffability but you can't really call it 「　」 in language lol #but maybe the implication the text was making was that the Imaginary Tree is the Root equivalent? Either way #Paths are very much like the Thaumaturgical Foundations since Paths are a thing actively established #and Pathstriders draw power from that Path like how Magi do something similar with the Foundations #t.ype-moon is very much a world where magecraft and magic is slowly fading away kind of like L.ord of the Rings #and by the time of Extra's worldline traditional magecraft fell out of use and was replaced by cyber hackers and by the Land of Steel #in Notes it's essentially entirely gone even though there are some exceptions #magecraft is the replication and creation of a phenomenon and Magic/Sorcery is doing something that defies the laws of reality #as they currently are.#and eventually even Magic can become just regular magecraft once humans figure out how to accomplish what the Magic does scientifically #so that the phenomenon and the thing that defies reality are now explainable and able to be reliably replicated. generally magecraft looks #towards the past and science looks towards the future #I thought the comparison between the two with saying for comparison that magi want to go back to the beginning of their #metaphorical paths while for H.SR the paths themselves keep going forward was a very elegant and intuitive comparison #since magi generally are trying to find ways back to the Root #Magi who establish Thaumaturgical Foundations are kind of like Aeons in that they create systems that others use for power lol #is also another thing I'm saying here and that Foundations and Paths have overlap even if they're def not the same thing #I have two hyperfixations and they are M.akoto and T.ype-Moon lol
