Early Sunday, at the end of a dirt road overlooking a gravel pit.
Estrella Mountain stood in the distance, quiet and watchful, holding its place behind the machinery.
I’m calling this image Placeholder. It fits within Finding Estrella, but the light never arrived. The forecast promised clouds; I hoped for breaks, a little movement, something to shape the air. Instead, the sky stayed flat, and the scene followed.
Still, the morning offered something. I tested a window mount for the 4×5, an approach born out of caution. The road may be private, and setting up a tripod felt too exposed. With the mount, I can arrive, frame, expose, and leave before being noticed.
My setup -
There are a few details to refine like lens adjustments and small movements but the method feels right.
This capture will need to be revisited.
The structure is there. The mountain is there.
The light just hasn’t spoken yet.
