survey time cuz this blogs been getting a lot of commission related asks and I'm struggling to get any commissions.
1) Folks who buy art of your dragons, do you just peruse art shops or find your artists some other way? How?
2) Are there any things that turn you away from an art shop immediately?
3) Do you want art examples to be the first thing you see when you open an art shop thread? Do you leave if the examples aren't right in your face?
4) Do you purchase using FRC or RLC, or both?
5) For artists who get a lot of commissions, what do you do? How do people find you?
.
Sometimes I browse through the forums, but mostly I add myself to pinglists of artists I’ve commissioned before. I am a repeat customer first and foremost. If I like your art, I will put your dragons through college
If I can’t see at least one example artwork on the thread, I will not commission you. I have zero desire to click offsite to view your examples on toyhouse or wherever. More negative points if I have to access a site like Twitter that will yell at me to make an account
They don’t have to be the Very First Thing, but they should be on the first page of the thread.
I exclusively pay FRC. I’ll boost RLC commissions whenever I can, they’re just not an option for me atm
I saw the most traffic when I did PWYW commissions. Unfortunately, this frequently meant getting paid 25-50kt for a fullbody. I do not recommend this method unless your self-esteem is made of titanium. You are essentially asking people to grade how much they think your effort/skill is worth, and that can really wear down on a person.
If I see something that grabs me on tumblr and they show me how to get to their shop I'll go that way, otherwise I just skim through the art sales forums when I'm in an art-buying mood.
No art examples/art examples that I can't see (I am aware, being in the UK, that not being able to see imgur is a me problem, however if examples are only hosted on imgur, I can't see them, the artist clearly uses imgur as their host so I won't be able to see the finished art either, so I won't look any further. This has recently been the number one reason I've clicked away from a shop). Also unclear or complicated pricing ("base price x, additional pricing may apply if xyz"). I prefer to know straight-up what I'd be paying, rather than having to guess or get blindsided later by a price that was higher than I was expecting. Genes or apparel having a set add-on fee is fine, but wishy-washy on the pricing does not appeal.
They don't have to be "right" in my face but if they're not in either post 1 or post 2 (with post 1 being a short post, not a text wall), I'm not going hunting, I'm leaving instead.
FRC only. I'm not in a position to pay RLC for this, nor do I care enough about my dragons to spend non-dragon money on them. Very happy to pay in items as well as gems/treasure/fest currency, however.
My best shouts were when I was doing foddart based stuff, which got a lot of exposure thanks to domwatch etc., and one particular adopt I did that apparently hit a sweet spot.
