ok i understand my usage of 2 different variables has probably weeded out the target audience but i need everyone to stop doing this. please. just imagine you said "1 in 2 people is a woman, so therefore when 2 people are in a room, at least one is a woman". i need you to know this is exactly what you sound like.

if youre really insistant on predicting frequency in a random sample based on probability, use what i call "the 3n rule"; if theres a 1/n chance of something, you can be ~95% sure itll happen at least once in a sample size of 3n.
