Welcome to all things lore in spiritual and religious connotations. While it may seem more of a study on demonology but it is much more than that. articles will include lore on angels, creatures, magic, and more. If you are looking for something I'll have it. I will advise against summoning, especially for the wrong reasons, but take the information that is gathered as you see fit to use it. For me, it's all reference material.
Copper Seal, Duke Bathin- According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: “The Eighteenth Spirit is Bathin. He is a Mighty and Strong Duke, and appeareth like a Strong Man with the tail of a Serpent, sitting upon a Pale-Coloured Horse. He knoweth the Virtues of Herbs and Precious Stones, and can transport men suddenly from one country to another. He ruleth over 30
Legions of Spirits. His Seal is this which is to be worn as aforesaid.”
Riding a pale horse is said to be a form of intimidation as a pale horse is a symbol for death.
It is said Bathin teaches not literal transport, but astral projection.
As a Duke, he is said to be ”bound from Sunrise till Noonday in Clear Weather.”

Mercury Seal, President Botis- According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: “The Seventeenth Spirit is Botis, a Great President, and an Earl. He appeareth at the first show in the form of an ugly Viper, then at the command of the Magician he putteth on a Human shape with Great Teeth, and two Horns, carrying a bright and sharp Sword in his hand. He telleth all things Past, and to Come, and reconcileth Friends and Foes. He ruleth over 60 Legions of Spirits, and this is his Seal, etc.”
It is said Botis appears as a viper to scare off any amateurs that may have summoned him to test the will of the magician.
As a President, he is said to be ”bound any time, excepting Twilight, at Night, unless the King whom they are under be Invocated."
The seal of Botis as depicted in The Lesser Key of Solomon
Copper Seal, Duke Zepar- According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: “The Sixteenth Spirit is Zepar. He is a Great Duke, and appeareth in Red Apparel and Armour, like a Soldier. His office is to cause Women to love Men, and to bring them together in love. He also maketh them barren. He governeth 26 Legions of Inferior Spirits, and his Seal is this, which he obeyeth when he seeth it.”
It is said Zepar is generally summoned by men who want a woman to fall in love with them with the cost of the woman to be unable to concieve a child. While this doesn't seem to be a big deal to some, long ago it was looked down upon in many aspects to not have children or bare any.
As a Duke, he is said to be ”bound from Sunrise till Noonday in Clear Weather.”
The seal of Zepar as depicted in The Lesser Key of Solomon
Copper Seal, Duke Eligos, Abigor or Eligor- According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: “The Fifteenth Spirit in Order is Eligos, a Great Duke, and appeareth in the form of a goodly Knight, carrying a Lance, an Ensign, and a Serpent. He discovereth hidden things, and knoweth things to come; and of Wars, and how the Soldiers will or shall meet. He causeth the Love of Lords and Great Persons. He governeth 60 Legions of Spirits. His Seal is this, etc.”
Eligos carries a sceptre, but to Alaster Crowley it was a depiction of a serpent, as mentioned above.
Eligos is also depicted riding the Steed of Abigor as a ghostly spectre- a semi-skeletal and sometimes winged horse that is a minion of Hell itself. It is said to be a gift from Beezlebub and created from the remains of one of the horses from The Garden of Eden.
As a Duke, he is said to be ”bound from Sunrise till Noonday in Clear Weather.”

Demonology Books and Classification Differences || Demonology
Demonology differs throughout history, often times more modern books on the subject are inspired by their predecessors and the person's perception. The first four books listed are the more well known sources for Demonology and possible conjuration and invocation of such beings. Each mentioned has both similar content as well as differences to be noted. If you wish to study further beyond The Lesser Key of Solomon and want to skip websites to do so, this is the place to reference what you may be looking for.Â
The Grand Grimoire (or La Dragon Rouge)
The Sworn Book of Honorius, which may have been translated to the Grand Grimoire, was written in the 13th century and like most grimoires, both are said to come from Solomon and his priests. The Grand Grimoire may have been published in Cairo by a person known as Alibek the Egyptian in the 1517, but was likely written in 18th century France.
La Dragon Rouge (or The Red Dragon) contains instructions to summon Lucifer for the purposes of 'forming a Deal with the Devil'.
In Haiti the book is called 'Le Veritable Dragon Rouge' (or 'The True Red Dragon') where it is revered among practitioners of Voodoo.
The Grand Grimoire lists the different hosts of hell and their corresponding powers, how to make a pact with them and attain the conjurer's goals. The demons are listed in three tiers from Generals to Officers.
Pseudomonarchia Daemonum
Pseudomonarchia Daemonum (or Hierarchy of Demons) is an appendix to De praestigiis daemonum ( or False Monarchy of Demons) written by demonologist Johann Weyer (also known as Wierus) in 1563 in Basel.
Much like the Ars Goetia of The Lesser Key of Solomon, it contains the list of demons and times to conjure them.
Pseudomonarchia Daemonum was written before any known copies of The Lesser Key of Solomon and has a few differences. Instead of listing seventy-two demons, Pseudomonarchia Daemonum lists sixty-nine. The order of the demons varies and so do some of their characteristics. Seals are not attributed whereas The Lesser Key of Solomon they are. Vassago, Seere, Dantalion and Andromalius are not listed while Pruflas is not listed in The Lesser Key of Solomon.
Pseudomonarchia Daemonum also mentions 'Cartagra' or Purgatory.
While Pseudomonarchia Daemonum claims Solomon as the creator of the invocations, the entry for the demon Gaap indicates the son of Noah, Ham, instead.
The Lesser Key of Solomon
The Lesser Key of Solomon or Clavicula Salomonis Regis, also known as the Lemegeton, is actually an anonymous grimioire written in the 17th century and is one of the most popular demonology books.
Although the book claims to be written by King Solomon, titles of nobility used were not around in Solomon's time nor were the Christian Trinity and Jesus- Solomon predating at least 900 years before Jesus' birth- which are included in the text.
There are several copies of the book which vary in detail and in the spelling of the demon's names.
The Lesser Key of Solomon is broken into five parts: Ars Goetia, Ars Theurgia Goetia, Ars Paulina, Ars Almadel, and Ars Notria.
The Ars Goetia contains the description of the seventy-two demons that Solomon is said to have evoked and confined into a brass vessel. It contains instruction on creating this vessel and the magic symbols needed.
Are Goetia also lists all classes of spirits and demons from good, neutral and evil, the opening rights to major demons and the spirits of cardinal points along with their inferiors. All of them have a rank and title of nobility along with their seals. The entries are similar to those in Pseudomonarchia Daemonum with some variations. A revised Ars Goetia was published by Aleister Crowley in 1904.
Ars Theurgia Goetia (the art of goetic theaurgy) explains the names, characteristics and the seals of 31 aerial spirits the King Solomon invoked. It also goes into protections and names of their servants. conjurations to invoke them.
Ars Paulina (The Art of Paul) is divided into two chapters. It is said this art was discovered by Apostle Paul, but the book mentions it as the Pauline Art of King Solomon. The first chapter is on the angels of the hours of the day, their servants (the Dukes), the proper astrological aspects for invocation, names, and their conjuration. The second part is the angels that rule of the zodiac and their relation to the four elements as well as their names and seals. These angels are referred to as angels of me because each person is born under a zodiacal sign with the degrees of the Sun.
Ars Almadel (The Art of the Almadel) tells how to make a wax tablet with protection symbols- the almadel along with the four candles placed on it. Instructions include colors, materials and rituals to construct it. This chapter also tells of the angels to be invoked, the things needed to be asked of them, and the conjuration. Astrological aspects and dates are said to be considered convenient to invoke but are briefly mentioned.
Ars Notoria (The Notable Art) is the last part. It contains prayers with kabbalistic and magical words in mny languages, how the prayers must be said, and the relation that the rituals have to understanding all sciences. It mentions the prayers acts to invoke God's angels, which the correct spelling of prayer give knowledges of the sciences related to each and also promote memory, stability of the mind and eloquence of speech. This part of the book also tells how King Solomon received the revelation from an angel.
Dictionnair Infernal
Dictionnair Infernal (or Infernal Dictionary) is written by Jacques Auguste Simon Collin de Plancy and published in 1818. While several editions of the book were published, the most famous edition was in 1863, adding sixty-nine illustrations from Louis Le Breton. These illustrations depict some of the appearences of the demons, even later used in S. L. MacGregor Mathers's edition of The Lesser Key of Solomon with a few of them removed.
Dictionnaire Infernal is divided into two volumes with six reprints between 1818 and 1863. The book tries to include an account of all knowlege of superstition and demonology.
Collin de Plancy did not believe in many superstitions at the time, very heavily influenced by Voltaire, but as time passed his skepticism grew. By the end of 1830 he became a devote Catholic, and years later he modified Dictionnaire Infernal to fit with the canons of the Roman Catholic Church.
Lesser volumes and publications:
The Testament of Solomon is said to be written by King Solomon himself which mostly describes certain demons he enslaved to build his temple, questions he asked about their deeds and how they could be beaten as well as their answers. This text is only found in Christian sources and none of the Jewish sources. The original text was written in Greek and the real author is unknown. Demons listed are of Christian, Jewish, Greek and Arabic as well as some other traditions and provide some often grotesque interviews with them.
In the 11th century Michael Psellus prepared a classification of demons divided into Empyreal, Aerial, Subterranean, Lucifugi, Aquous and Terrene.
In 1467, Alfonso de Spina prepared a classification based on a broad range of criteria, probably inspired by folklore, legends and stories and not quite reliable.
Peter Brimsfield published an authoritive list of demons and their associated sins based on the seven deadly sins. Each one mentioned are the Seven princes of Hell and used widely in lore and stories. The seven are as follows: Lucifer- pride, Mammon- greed, Asmodeus- lust, Leviathan- envy, Beelzebub- gluttony, Satan- wrath, and Belphegor- sloth.
Marvelous History is a book written by Sebastien Michaelis in 1613 which is an account of a demon by the name of Berith who told Michaelis a classification of demons while Michaelis was exorcising a nun. The classification is based off of Pseudo- Dionysian hierarchies (written in the De Coelestia Hierarchia). Most of the demon's names are French or unknown in other writings. The hierarchies include the First- Seraphim, Charibium and Thrones; Second- Powers, Dominions, and Virtues; and Third- Principalities, Archangels, and Angels. All the demons seem to be of the thought to be 'fallen angels' who fell with Lucifer and aligned with the Princes of Hell.
In the book The Magus written in 1801, author Francis Barret classified demons as princes of an evil attitude, person or thing. Beelzebub: idolators, Pythius: liars and liar spirits, Belial: vessels of iniquity and inventors of evil things, Asmodeus: vile revenges, Satan: witches and warlocks, Merihem: pestilences and spirits that cause pestilences, Abaddon: powers of war and devastation, Astaroth: inquisitors and accusers, and Mammon: tempters and ensnarers.
Silver Seal, Marquis Leraje, Leraikha, Leraie, Leraye, Loray, Oray, or Lerajie  - According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: "The Fourteenth Spirit is called Leraje (or Leraie). He is a Marquis Great in Power, showing himself in the likeness of an Archer clad in Green, and carrying a Bow and Quiver. He causeth all great Battles and Contests; and maketh wounds to putrefy that are made with Arrows by Archers. This belongeth unto Sagittary. He governeth 30 Legions of Spirits, and this is his Seal, etc."
Leraje is said to cause battle wounds with arrows that seem to get gangrene, as well as cause battles to break out.
As a Marquis,he is said to be ”bound from 3 in the afternoon till 9 at Night, and from 9 at Night till Sunrise”, or the best time to be summoned.
The seal of Leraje as depicted in The Lesser Key of Solomon
Gold Seal, King Beleth- According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: " BELETH - The Thirteenth Spirit is called Beleth (or Bileth, or Bilet). He is a mighty King and terrible. He rideth on a pale horse with trumpets and other kinds of musical instruments playing before him. He is very furious at his first appearance, that is, while the Exorcist layeth his courage; for to do this he must hold a Hazel Wand in his hand, striking it out towards the South and East Quarters, make a triangle, without the Circle, and then command him into it by the Bonds and Charges of Spirits as hereafter followeth. And if he doth not enter into the triangle, at your threats, rehearse the Bonds and Charms before him, and then he will
yield Obedience and come into it, and do what he is commanded by the Exorcist. Yet he must receive him courteously because he is a Great King, and do homage unto him, as the Kings and Princes do that attend upon him. And thou must have always a Silver Ring on the middle finger of the left hand held against thy face,14 as they do yet before AMAYMON. This Great King Beleth causeth all the love that may be, both of Men and of Women, until the Master Exorcist hath had his desire fulfilled. He is of the Order of Powers, and he governeth 85 Legions of Spirits. His Noble Seal is this, which is to be worn before thee at working."
According to Pseudomonarchia Daemonum, Noah's son Ham was the first to invoke him after the flood, writing a book on Mathematics with Beleth's help.
Beleth is said to be a fallen angel of the angelic Order of Powers and should not be summoned by amateurs who are faint of courage.
The summoner must always wear a silver ring on the middle finger of their left or right hand and hold the ring against their face as a sign of respect and a hazel wand in their right hand.
Beleth will refuse the command unless the summoner already has a relationship with him. This is a test over the conjurer's will, fear and knowledge of summomning arts.
As a King, he is said to be “bound from 9 till 12 o’clock at Noon, and from 3 till Sunset.”
The seal of Beleth as depicted in The Lesser Key of Solomon
Tin Seal, Prince Sitri, Sytry or Bitru- According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: "The Twelfth Spirit is Sitri. He is a Great Prince and appeareth at first with a Leopard’s head and the Wings of a Gryphon, but after the command of the Master of the Exorcism he putteth on Human shape, and that very beautiful. He enflameth men with Women’s love, and Women with Men’s love; and causeth them also to show themselves naked if it be desired. He governeth 60 Legions of Spirits. His Seal is this, to be worn as a Lamen before thee, etc."
Sitri is said to make anyone fall in love with one another, but possibly more accurate a word would be to 'lust' after. His trademark is to influence people, particularly women, to uncloth themselves.
Sitri also makes women bare their secrets then mocks them.
As a Prince, he is said to be bound at any hour of the day.
The seal of Sitri as depicted in The Lesser Key of Solomon
Copper Seal, Duke Gusion- According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: The Eleventh Spirit in order is a great and strong Duke, called Gusion. He appeareth like a Xenopilus. He telleth all things, Past, Present, and to Come, and showeth the meaning and resolution of all questions thou mayest ask. He conciliateth and reconcileth friendships, and giveth Honour and Dignityunto any. He ruleth over 40 Legions of Spirits. His Seal is this, the which wear thou as aforesaid.
Gusion is said to be a blunt and honest speaker and would be a master of public relations.
Ancient texts describe his appearence as a baboon, but modern day people who have summoned Gusion describe him as a blue-ish, bright creature with narrow eyes and mouth. In ancient texts some of this description comes up- being called "Xenophilus"- Xeno a root word for 'alien'.
As a Duke, he is said to be bound from Sunrise till Noonday in Clear Weather.

Mercury Seal, President Buer - According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: “ The Tenth Spirit is Buer, a Great President. He appeareth in Sagittary, and that is his shape when the Sun is there. He teaches Philosophy, both Moral and Natural, and the Logic Art, and also the Virtues of all Herbs and Plants. He healeth all distempers in man, and giveth good Familiars. He governeth 50 Legions of Spirits, and his Character of obedience is this, which thou must wear when thou callest him forth unto appearance."
Buer tends to appear as either a centaur or a head of a lion surrounded by five goat legs so that he may walk in any direction.
Unlike many demons, Buer is rumored to be 'straight edge'- not condoning the use of alcohol or drugs and certainly is seen as disrespectful if under the influence when conjuring him.
As a President, he is said to be “bound any time, excepting Twilight, at Night, unless the King whom they are under be Invocated.”
Buer as depicted in the Dictionnaire Infernal

Gold Seal, King Paimon - According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: “The Ninth Spirit in this Order is Paimon, a Great King, and very obedient unto LUCIFER. He appeareth in the form of a Man sitting upon a Dromedary with a Crown most glorious upon his head. There goeth before him also an Host of Spirits, like Men with Trumpets and well sounding Cymbals, and all other sorts of Musical Instruments. He hath a great Voice, and roareth at his first coming, and his speech is such that the Magician cannot well understand unless he can compel him. This Spirit can teach all Arts and Sciences, and other secret things. He can discover unto thee what the Earth is, and what holdeth it up in the Waters; and what Mind is, and where it is; or any other thing thou mayest desire to know. He giveth Dignity, and confirmeth the same. He bindeth or maketh any man subject unto the Magician if he so desire it. He giveth good Familiars, and such as can teach all Arts. He is to be observed towards the West. He is of the Order of Dominations.13 He hath under him 200 Legions of Spirits, and part of them are of the Order of Angels, and the other part of Potentates. Now if thou callest this Spirit Paimon alone, thou must make him some offering; and there will attend him two Kings called LABAL and ABALI , and also other Spirits who be of the Order of Potentates in his Host, and 25 Legions. And those Spirits which be subject unto them are not always with them unless the Magician do compel them. His Character is this which must be worn as a Lamen before thee, etc."
Paimon is indeed a very powerful demon, as stated, and probably most obedient to Lucifer than any other demon. Paimon leads more legions than the rest of the demons. Some of his legions include some from the Order of Angels as well as the Order of Potentates. He often requires a sacrifice of some sort and for the conjurer to answer a question. Some say you must be an advanced conjurer to attempt summoning him. He often appears with two other demons and sometimes more.
Although Paimon appears with a strong, booming voice his face is said to be soft and feminine.Â
Most other places Paimon is said to be summoned while facing northwest, not west.
As a King, he is said to be “bound from 9 till 12 o’clock at Noon, and from 3 till Sunset."

It's great to see just over 100 followers on this online grimiore of sorts! Thank you all for your interest in learning- no matter the reasons you have.
Been busy (I do a million things and other blogs) so I try and get at least one of our demons from The Lesser Key of Solomon series a week. I believe I may have missed last week, but ended up posting Barbatos just after.Â
The master list of the 72 demons in The Lesser Key of Solomon should be updated with the post links through Barbatos (you can copy this url and make note of it for reference:Â http://true-lore-grimoire.tumblr.com/post/59173915555/the-72-demons-list-and-rank). If you are new to this blog I urge you to keep a copy of this list somewhere for future reference. Anything listed after Barbatos (as of the last posting) is linked to wiki, so please be patient with me until I continue getting more demons posted to fix the code. :)
I'll try and be sure to get another demon rolling and continue working hard on some additional info as soon as I can. Thanks all for your patience and continuing to study with me.
Copper Seal, Duke Barbatos - According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: "The Eighth Spirit is Barbatos. He is a Great Duke, and appeareth when the Sun is in Sagittary, with four noble Kings and their companies of great troops. He giveth understanding of the singing of Birds, and of the Voices of other creatures, such as the barking of Dogs. He breaketh the Hidden Treasures open that have been laid by the Enchantments of Magicians. He is of the Order of Virtues, of which some part he retaineth still; and he knoweth all things Past, and to come, and conciliateth Friends and those that be in Power. He ruleth over 30 Legions of Spirits. His Seal of Obedience is this, the which wear before thee as aforesaid."
The Four Kings are said to be companions of Barbatos and command his legions.
Barbatos is indeed known for communication, letting the summoner understand the language of animals.
Barbatos is said to be able to lead men to treasures that are hidden by other magicians.
His name comes from 'barbatus', Latin for beard- which can also translate into an old man or a philosopher, in which he appears as.
Said to be of the Order of Virtues- the 12 Orders of Angels
As a Duke, he is said to be bound from Sunrise till Noonday in Clear Weather.
The seal of Barbatos as depicted in The Lesser Key of Solomon
Silver Seal, Marquis Amon - According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: “The Seventh Spirit is Amon. He is a Marquis great in power, and most stern. He appeareth like a Wolf with a Serpent’s tail, vomiting out of his mouth flames of fire; but at the command of the Magician he putteth on the shape of a Man with Dog’s teeth beset in a head like a Raven; or else like a Man with a Raven’s head (simply). He telleth all things Past and to Come. He procureth feuds and reconcileth controversies between friends. He governeth 40 Legions of Spirits. His Seal is this which is to be worn as aforesaid, etc.”
There is some speculation that Amon may actually be the same as Amon-Ra, an Egyptian god who had a body of a man and head of a falcon. Birds of prey have a sort of canine tooth at the end of their beaks, called  a "tomial tooth", unlike a raven who has a straight beak. This could perhaps explain 'dog's teeth beset in a head like a raven'.
As a Marquis, he is said to be “bound from 3 in the afternoon till 9 at Night, and from 9 at Night till Sunrise.”

Copper Seal, Duke Valefor, Malaphar, Malephar or Valafar - According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: “The Sixth Spirit is Valefor. He is a mighty Duke, and appeareth in the shape of a Lion with an Ass’s Head, bellowing. He is a good Familiar, but tempteth them he is a familiar of to steal. He governeth 10 Legions of Spirits. His Seal is this, which is to be worn, whether thou wilt have him for a Familiar, or not."
It's said Valefor causes good relationships amongst thieves, but also may trick the summoner by leaving him during an act of thievery if the summoner chooses Valefor to be with them.
As a Duke, he is said to be “bound from Sunrise till Noonday in Clear Weather.”
The seal of Valefor as depicted in The Lesser Key of Solomon
Mercury Seal, President Marbas or Barbas- According to The Lesser Key of Solomon: "The fifth Spirit is Marbas. He is a Great President, and appeareth at first in the form of a Great Lion, but afterwards, at the request of the Master, he putteth on Human Shape. He answereth truly of things Hidden or Secret. He causeth Diseases and cureth them. Again, he giveth great Wisdom and Knowledge in Mechanical Arts; and can change men into other shapes. He governeth 36 Legions of Spirits. And his Seal is this, which is to be worn as aforesaid."
When it's said Marbas can change men into other shapes, some assume it's their 'true form' if they are hiding it under a 'mask' of some sort. Perhaps not only for humans, but possibly for other creatures as well who like to hide.
Marbas is said to cure diseases, as mentioned above. He can also cause disease.
As a President, he is said to be "bound any time, excepting Twilight, at Night, unless the King whom they are under be Invocated."
