Nestle is regarded as one of the most hated companies, in the world, and have one of the biggest boycotts against them. They are the third most unethical company in the world.
First, the Boycott is lead by âBaby Milk Actionâ due to the fact that NestlĂŠ contribute to the unnecessary death and suffering of infants around the world by aggressively marketing baby foods in breach of international marketing standards. Nestle aggressively pushed their breastfeeding formula in less economically developed countries, purposefully targeting the poor, uneducated and vulnerable. (Read more)
Nestle is worldâs largest producer of bottled water, and they are very passionate about this business venture - their chairman once said that he believes water isnât a universal right. After the media attacked him for this, he tried to backtrack this, many times, but he said it.
On the topic of water, even though they claim to âcareâ about people. Nestle drains the aquifers it controls, as much as they possibly can - they donât care about the sustainable usage or environmental concerns. that come hand-in-hand with this. During the California drought, Nestle didnât care. When the CEO was asked if heâd transfer their facility, he said,  âAbsolutely not. In fact, if I could increase [water bottling operations], I would.â Nestle has been working without a permit since 1988.Â
 In a small Pakistani community called Bhati Dilwan - the children were being sickened by dirty water. Why? Because Nestle dug a well that was depriving all the locals of potable clean water.
Moving onto their chocolate production. Nestle are known to use child labor - children aged between 12 and 15 - some of which, are trafficked. This is what they had to say about it:
âThe use of child labour in our cocoa supply chain goes against everything we stand for,â says Nestleâs Executive Vice-President for Operations Jose Lopez. âNo company sourcing cocoa from the Ivory Coast can guarantee that it doesnât happen, but we can say that tackling child labour is a top priority for our company.â
The FLA reported that Nestle was fully aware of where their cocoa was coming from, but havenât really done anything to combat it, even though they said they would.Â
In July 2009, Nestle was involved in a public health crisis, when their cookie dough was found to have been contaminated with E. coli.Â
And in 2008, they were responsible for the Chinese Milk Scandal, that saw the deaths of six infant, and a further 860 were hospitalized. Because Nestleâs products were contaminated with melamine, a substance sometimes illegally added to food products to increase their apparent protein content.
Furthermore, Nestle has been involved with pollution, on many occasions. Over a 12 month period, they violated the water pollution limits, 2,152 times.Â
Theyâre known to market their breakfast cereals, as healthy, but in the UK, 7 out of 15 cereals with the highest levels of sugar, fats, and salt, were Nestle. They are known, worldwide for promoting unhealthy products under the umbrella of healthy. Â
Finally, they have been known to use an unsustainable source for palm oil.Â
