We live separate from natural time and lunar tides, and so the Cancer is pulled between chronos and kairos, awake and asleep, unsure of what is completely real and dream. But from this conflict evokes a brilliant prophet in the Cancer, an oracle that forms in the astral amniotic fluid from the umbilical cord, a crystal ball in a mystic mermaid shell. One that has belonged to the Priestesses, Crones, and Elders in her spirit bloodline, capable of conjuring the most marvellous unformed visions, images, rituals, and memories from their heavenly vault. Spirit guides reside in the 4th house with Cancer. Spirit Guides can manifest in human form using the vessel of Cancer in the same way new life flows through them, just as pure magic does the same.  These people frequently receive intuition from spirit family and guides, and often these thoughts or sensations appear as their own. They can receive prophetic knowledge about past events, like the ability to acquire more information and insight as time passes and uncertainty arises. Cancers are invited to practice the art of divination, because they are promised in the highest protection and opportunity for spiritual service. The only demons capable of materialising within this strongly enchanted defence charm is their own fear. 

Were you ever ‘too much’? 

Witches usually are- we grow up being ‘too much’. You saw too much, you asked too much, you knew too much. You read too much in school and you talked too much in class. When you got home, you loved too many things; stray cats, birds with broken wings, and sickly houseplants at the back of the grocery store. You had too many ratty books ‘rescued’ from the libraries burn pile, and your bedroom had too much junk; rocks, seashells, bits of paper, half-finished crafts….sound familiar?

You were probably punished for your too much. You learned to push it down, to cover it up and pretend to walk with your eyes forward and your brain empty like everyone else. You knew there was more, knew that someone or something out there could help you find more, but you were stuck with ‘enough’.

But over the years, your 'too much’ began sprouting through the cracks, didn’t it? Like dandelions defying the toxic concrete above them, your true self breaks through into the sunlight again and again. And just like a dandelion, I promise that each time you’re free, you brighten everything around you. Sometimes you draw attention to a flaw in the system, even while showing how that flaw doesn’t have to be one at all. Other times, your’s are the actions that say, 'This is okay! This is exciting, look, I’m doing it!’

In my personal opinion, that’s what makes a 'natural witch’. That’s the origin of the crooked path. The dirt trail that deviates from the main road, and those who dare to walk it, are where we find real magic. There’s power in repetition, yes. In tradition, and following the steps of those before you. But there’s also power in seeking, in trying and searching and finding until you’re laying there absolutely exhausted, but satisfied at last with what you found.

Real witches are an endangered species. No one minds the armchair wizard, who collects secret tomes but has never done a single ritual. They’re tame. They’re safe. But the witches who walk with open eyes and pointing fingers, well, those are nuisances. They demand change, and work both mundanely and magically for it. They’re loud, they’re brash, they’re WEIRD…

…they’re 'too much’.

Mars in the 1st people make the masculine conscious in other people, often resulting in confusing and intense social encounters. It’s possible that women seem intimidated, threatening, or hostile toward her without reason, and men can be surprisingly open and honest in her company, revealing their issues, respecting her counsel, and adopting her as a sister. The individual rarely tolerates passive aggressive pettiness or sparing feelings. She would rather expose the fire and clear the smoke in the air, because there is no peace without war. Rage is a sensation that absolutely demands enactment and demonstration. Frustration may reach a threshold where everything in contact begins crawling under her skin - and this is when she is most prone to hurting herself, punching her mirror, or smashing her phone. Mars in the 1st is justice seeking and raises her weapons on behalf of loved ones, animals, the innocent, and the vulnerable. She may take these issues quite personally and become impassioned about social and political issues, largely seeking justice and redemption for wounds afflicted and worn by her inner child. There is ripe appetite for life that launches her energy in multiple directions, she is enthused and inspired for beginning something new but rarely has the discipline to continue once this initial burst has worn off. It’s possible for the individual to struggle with impulse control, she may not even be aware that her rapid decisiveness and flashes of excitement is the signal of her impulse. These fleeting actions can impair or obstruct her ultimate aim, she may spend more time cleaning up for yesterday’s chaos than making any progress. But she is clever and quick witted, so she tends to learn quickly from her mistakes and reconfigure her strategy when her desired response isn’t being met. However, she may not display such qualities when it involves emotions and relationships. In these circumstances, the individual may demonstrate repeated cycles of behaviour, self-destruction, and regression. This is largely because deep internal self-awareness and adaptive strategies are unacknowledged, missing or undeveloped. It’s possible for the individual to suffer with numerous health problems due to her consuming energy, inability to rest and sleep on schedule, and vulnerability for burn out. There may be trouble with iron or deficiencies in the blood work, daily tension headaches or frequent migraines, new and recurring impairing injuries, gall stones, stomach ulcers, adrenal, or thyroid issues. Animals are beneficial to the individual’s wellbeing, as well with regular physical activity and sunshine, martial arts and intensive, competitive sports, routine sex and physical outlets for her energy. 

Mars in the 1st is rarely given to the advice or experience of other people, preferring instead to see, touch, taste, live, and know for herself. And for all of these billowing smoke and flames, there is a quintessential vulnerability and exposure with Mars in the 1st.
