Uhm I'm not really sure what exactly you want me to explain but I'll try. If this isn't what you meant shoot me another ask.

But basically I think you can tell a lot about character based on the way they refer to others and I also think having a bunch of different nicknames for people that don't have a theme doesn't really work well. (no hate if you do, I just prefer thematic approaches to this stuff)

Let's take my favorite troll OC: Visara. They're genderfluid so any pronouns work, I usually use they/them but to make this post easier I'll use she/her. I'm also going to use canon characters instead of other OC's for this example, because 1 everyone knows these characters and 2 I don't like posting too much about OC's before I make a full post about them. I don't want anyone stealing them, ya feel?

She has a thing for four, so I use that to determine her nicknames. The rules of her nicknames are:

They have to be four letters long

If the char is a friend the nickname derives mostly from the first name

If the char is not a friend or if she's mad at them it comes mostly from their last name

When talking to the person she tends to use 1234 but when she's talking about them she usually uses (1)-234

If the nickname would annoy the char or describe them, bonus points

Here are some examples

Karkat Vantas would be K-Kat or Kark.

Sollux Captor would be S-Cap or Thol (making fun of his lisp to annoy him)

Vriska Serket would be S-Ket or Risk (because Vriska is dangerous and therefore risk fits her)

To explain the difference between friend and not, Gamzee Makara could be Gamz and G-Zee or Kara and G-Kar.
