opinion/rant i guess?? i dont think greaseball was ever abusive to dinah to the point of their relationship being completely toxic. (this is about pre-2018 greasedinah btw!!)
thing is, greaseball and dinah both have character flaws rooted in their toxic masculinity/femininity. GB cared too much about his own reputation and talked down to Dinah as a result of his own perception of masculinity, he let his stardom get the better of him. But Dinah also let her jealousy and anger at GB get the better of her, she turned her anger into a motivator for her to get back at him, resulting in her plan for revenge. That just shows how she cares too much, she's so empathetic and attached to her lover that she can't find a healthy way to vent out her frustrations. Neither of these behaviors are good ways to deal with their respective needs and wants.
But in the end, she still runs back up to him after he NEARLY DIES, and cries over his injuries. Despite how frustrated Dinah is with him she still loves him deep inside, and he's genuinely apologetic too. Whenever I see people talking about how insincere his apology is and how he only apologizes after Dinah prompts him THAT IS NOT TRUE?? He literally tries apologising before she even tells him to spell it out, the spelling thing is a coping mechanism she learned through processing her own emotions, she's SHARING this coping mechanism with him so that he can process HIS OWN emotions thoroughly because he never learned how to do it before! Because of TOXIC MASCULINITY!!! Those entire few lines are essentially Dinah taking the best parts of her identity, being empathetic, and using it to help Greaseball communicate his true intentions, which is to apologize.
That's what I love so much about those two, their arcs are all about loving each other deeply but not knowing how to communicate it properly and having a falling out because of it, and eventually talking it through with the best parts of their personalities and mending the relationship. The way they treat each other is so tender and the love they have for each other is so deep, theyre just flawed characters who need to work hard to be able to understand each others' perspectives.
So yes, Greaseball hurt Dinah's feelings, but that doesn't mean Dinah should have just left him or that she doesn't deserve him. She loves him too much, and even though she went on a mini rampage against him, in the end she was the one who helped him process his own guilt. I just feel like i keep seeing people who get really confused about their relationship and consider it toxic, there's a whole arc to it where they both find themselves in each other, just felt like i had to write down my thoughts on it :p
i see your perspective but saying that greaseball was never abusive or toxic is just straight up not true. they used to blatantly say that he would beat dinah in the original london production
obviously, the writing eventually changed to not just outright mention physical abuse but you canβt deny that it did used to be written into his character. even after these lines were removed, he was still aggressive to dinah, did things to upset her on purpose, like racing with pearl in front of her, and pushed her around, like in thereβs me.
yeah, heβs definitely not as toxic anymore in the current iterations but you cannot say that he ever wasnβt
What I meant was that he wasn't abusive to the point that some people demonize him for it. Yes I acknowledge he was being a terrible boyfriend? I literally mention that in the paragraph too, he was being a massive asshole, but the writing was all meant to reflect his toxic masculinity and how that affects young, impressionable, ego-inflated men like him and their relationships with others.
I'm not denying that he was ever aggressive or violent, of course he was! That was the whole point of communicating the toxicity! I was just a little upset seeing people completely ignore that he ever moved on from that, or completely put Dinah in a perfect light just because she is a victim. My point is that it's not black and white, there are layers to it that some people don't really break down

edit: not responding to replies here anymore since i didn't expect it to blow up and i'm super busy with work π thanks to everyone keeping it civil and polite tho :')

DISCLAIMER: I AM NOT SAYING HE WAS NOT ABUSIVE. the aggression greaseball displays is VERY clearly written, my point is merely that there is depth to his writing and i wanted to link his abusive behavior to the deeper rooted reasonings <- his own ego and toxic masculinity. When I say dinah has toxic traits here too i don't mean she was toxic TO greaseball, she has toxic traits that affect herself and her own coping. Please be respectful when replying or reblogging THANK YOU.

i like to imagine post 2018 dinah is like a strongheaded older sister figure to pre 2018 dinah

(lwk feel bad bc i JUST sent an ask lmao)
buttt
i was wondering like if u had any tips for digital art + how u draw the cheater boys??
(also like if u have like an online shop where tf do i find it im slow asf-)
hii!!! so sorry it took me a while to get to this i just got back from a weekend trip overseas ππ
(first of all dw about sending asks LMAO i love yapping on tumblr and i dont have a lot of moots here anyway :p )
i guess for digital art it the style and work process really just comes with practice/studying... not sure if i can give any general tips unless you want anything specific? i've been drawing digitally for like over 10 years so i've gotten rly comfortable with the programs i use and the feel of it hehe
as for drawing the characters, i usually just break down some of the costume designs into key elements that i think stand out or really make the character look individual!! i personally love the olc costumes and hair so i based my greaseball and electra designs' hairstyles off of theirs
i also simplify the designs a lot since i draw lots of chibis/cartoony styles so i can't really fit all the details in them, i mainly focus on translating key elements in the designs into shapes and drawing those!!
also! my etsy is tripleberrymix, i never linked it here before but if you go on my instagram (@/tripleberrymix_) it'll be linked in my bio :3 i haven't posted any stex stuff on it yet but i will soon!!! hopefully,,,, but i'll def post it here when i list them for sale :D
his ass would NOT be going to heaven

I've been struggling to think of flavours for the other Stex characters so it's just C.B so far, think the idea of him hiding being rotten and a down right bad seed for the first act is just the kinda writing you can expect from cookie run.
