“See,” His normally jovial tone shifts to something more serious. “there are a lot of reasons why I fight. Because there’re demons out there that have to be taken down a peg; because if I don’t, who will; hell, even sometimes just because it’s fun. You get the picture.”

       He momentarily lets his gaze drift down to his right arm. The newly formed, human arm. An embodiment of his newfound resolve.

“But if you were gonna ask me what the deep, dark reason is? It’s because I have things I care about. And I have the power to protect them.”

       He shrugs.

       Almost immediately after that nice, fluffy little comment, Nero would yank the tiny rabbit from where they were standing. The very next moment, there was a blur, following by a loud crash at the spot. 

“Appreciate the cheerleading, but maybe stay off the field.” What exactly was he holding? Well, whatever, they had to split. “Go find some cover. The big kids are playing.”

       His entire stance had frozen the moment his eyes made contact with that man. The figure was unmistakable, his identity immediately pieced together within the first few seconds. It didn’t need to be confirmed, but it was anyways the moment the two of them locked eyes. He was sure the man recognized him, too.

       The silence could’ve been cut with a knife. Nero, being who he was, spoke first.

“--Where’s Dante?”

       He dodged right past the obvious questions, choosing instead to tackle something different altogether. The phrase wasn’t said with any kind of antagonism. If anything, his tone was pretty clearly an attempt at being ‘casual’. Casual, with the man who had torn his arm off, left him an orphan, and had caused him no end of troubles with seemingly every action he took. The man who also happened to be his father, when all was said and done.

       So far, he wasn’t liking the looks of this place. Sure, nothing had jumped out to try and kill him yet, but that usually wasn’t the best metric for judging something’s long-term dangers. Wasn’t like that couldn’t change, either.

       There was something just ‘off’ about the whole arrangement. What, they were just supposed to wake up here, be completely fine with being taken from everything they knew, and live happily on this island with a bunch of strangers? There was something deeper going on, and Nero wanted to find out what it was.

       There was just a small catch--

“Ah, this is goin’ nowhere.”

       He had absolutely no clue where to even begin on that front.

“Don’t even know where the people in charge are. It’d change a lot if I could track those assholes down, but...”

       Idly sitting around, he felt himself grow restless. In that restlessness, he noticed something out of the corner of his eye. Someone looking at him? Whoever they were, he didn’t know how long they’d been there. Great, as though he didn’t have enough on his mind.

       Well, this was a new one. Nero had been in a lot of weird situations in his career as a Devil Hunter. Waking up in some strange city, with no memory of how he’d gotten there or where all his stuff went? That one was brand new.

       After the initial shock and frustration wore off, he’d devoted his energy to trying to find a way out. He wasn’t exactly looking for an island getaway, after all. Problem was, he didn’t seem to be getting anywhere in that search. That only seemed to encourage his worry that he was a prisoner here, rather than a guest.

       And that bugged him. A lot.

he’s actually kinda just a wild party guy (less so than dante, thankfully)

was once an angery young lad, has gradually chilled out after helping take care of orphans for a little while

thankfully he got adopted into a good home (sorta; could’ve done w/o the religious cult in the background, but thankfully he never bought into it)

actually the grandson of a legendary demon who saved humanity

his father has also destroyed two cities in his pursuit of power 

and his uncle is a legendary devil hunter who’s saved the world countless times

his family life is really complicated

looks rough at times but he’s a big softy deep down
