I’ve been messing with AI art tools lately, as a way of trying out shoot concepts in a way that feels difficult or impossible in my current life situation. The more I use these tools and see their limitations, the more I appreciate the beauty of real humans and real creativity and improvisation.

If you’re not trying to make something that’s made of bits and pieces that the text-to-image model has already seen before, then you’re screwed. But for certain concepts and compositions that are not original but have a basic appeal to the pleasure principle, the tools can be fun.
