PASHUPATINATH TEMPLE (HINDU TEMPLE)
Pashupatinath Temple is one most sacred Hindu temple located in the bank of Bagmati River. The temple of lord Shiva, Pashupatinath, with a tiered golden roof & silver doors is famous for its superb architecture. The best view is from the terrace on the wooded hill across the river. The large gilded triple-roofed temple was built in 1696 AD though 300 years earlier there was a structure on this site. The Bagmati River is lined with dharmasalas and cremation ghats including a royal ghat reserved exclusively for members of the royal family. There is usually a cremation in progress on one of the platforms by the river, regarded as holy as it flows into the sacred Ganges. There are many occasions when the faithful take ritual purificatory baths in the river. One of the most colorful is the women's festival of Teej when dressed in their finest red and gold saris hundreds of women, laughing and singing converge on Pashupatinath. We survived the disaster that has befallen on us in the wake of the devastating earthquake, but not all Nepalese were that fortunate. TREKKING EXPERTS supported by moved to the most affected areas to extend rescue and relief to the unfortunate fellow countrymen.
The situation calls for a sustained support to prevent death from hunger and risk of epidemics of communicable diseases in weakened populations. The devastating earthquake triggered massive landslides shattering the village of Haku with 77 families (415 people ). Houses crushed, farmlands and trails washed away. Alleviating the suffering of people of HAKU, RASUWA hit by the tremors and landslides.
Appeal For Help to Earthquake Victims in Nepal
Dear Sir/Madam,
I would highly appreciate if you could kindly share this mail with interested volunteers or donors who are enthusiastic in giving a helping hand.
In the afternoon of Saturday April 2015 a massive earthquake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale struck Nepal and its neighboring countries causing massive damage and loss of life. All 75 districts of Nepal with million of people were affected. According to the media the death toll in the country is estimated over 6000 people but it is way more than that.
As the results of the destruction, thousands of people lost their lives and thousands are left homeless forcing them to live in temporary camps.
For the last three days, I was with a team to one of the most affected region in Rasuwa district. Better known as Langtang region. The devastation is beyond imagination.
The devastating earthquake followed by aftershocks combined with landslides has have caused heavy damage and numerous casualties. Entire villages are converted to rubbles, road and trails washed away.
Just to reach a village called Mailung it took us a full day and a whole night. Walking over landslides in the dark was tough and scary.
We reached Mailung to find nothing. Every house in the village is destroyed with bodies scattered all around. We were able to reach other two villages; Gogane and Tiru where we were able to rescue 50 injured people and pull hundreds on dead bodies. I counted 115 bodies but lost the count after that. Due to limited accessibility we were unable to carry any relief materials or tools other than few medicines. However, to avoid contamination, we created a mass grave for the bodies. The survivors are scattered all around without proper food and shelter.
There are limited or no water supplies at the temporary camps. The water, which is found, is contaminated, making clean drinking water difficult to obtain. But apart from food and shelter, the requirement for proper sanitation and sewerage treatment is crucial in all the temporary camps to avoid epidemics of communicable disease.
The number of displaced people is increasing in all temporary camps. The temporary camps lack proper shelter, food, sanitation facilities and sewage treatment. All of which could potentially contribute to diarrheal and respiratory infection disease outbreaks. Diseases such as salmonellosis, typhoid, cholera, hepatitis, and shigellosis are inevitable.
International aid in the form of rescue teams and relief provisions has arrived in Nepal but it is still yet reach these affected areas.
The situation calls for a sustained support to prevent death from hunger and risk of epidemics and diseases in weakened populations.
Upon return to Kathmandu yesterday, friends and I reacted immediately. As we became aware of the scale of the disaster it focused, quickly, on the potential health threats faced by the survivors due to improper food, shelter, sanitation facilities and the risk that they might suffer - or even die - as a result of disease.
We outlined the requirement of following items and have started acquiring them.
FOOD: Dry rations (Rice, Dal, Beaten Rice, Biscuits, Instant Noodles)
SHELTER: Tarpaulins, Plastics, Blankets and mattresses
SANITATION: Temporary tarp toilets, Water jerkin, Trash bag, insecticide, chlorine
(Chlorinate water supplies; maintain water treatment and set-up toilet
Facilities. Rubbish bins and collection of waste ensure effective disposal of solid waste. Provide Hygiene awareness training and spray insecticide.)
A team of doctors from Germany will be arriving here tomorrow to join us. Nepal needs all the help that she can get. It would be great if you or your organization could join us on this trip.
With best regards,
Dinesh Tamang Chief Executive Officer
