Yes, it was a week ago that Pussy Riot took the Stamps community and the Michigan Theater by storm, but a visit like that really makes an impact and a week later it is still on our minds. So many people felt truly and deeply affected by the duo after their very open and candid on-stage discussion.
Stamps senior Matt Rosner (pictured above with Pussy Riotâs Nadya and Masha) gives this thoughtful reflection:
"As we sat in an audience of 1700+ local community members, fragmented messages that poured from the stage came in waves of Russian, then in English.  As Nadya and Masha took turns speaking in their native language, I felt as if I was no longer sitting in Ann Arbor, Michigan, but rather some high stakes press conference taking place in a small Moscow basement. Â
The two seemed unfazed by the intentionally tough questions from Chrisstina.  As they began to answer the questions, whether about their personal lives or past performances, Nadya and Masha often veered into candidly talking about their current work and the issues that were on their minds.
It was a great opportunity, if only for a fleeting moment, to listen to the two members of Pussy Riot talk about their work and ideological convictions.  Their presence on stage as two internationally know celebrities struck many in the audience, but what fascinated me was how the two humble and driven young creatives were dealing with Russian political issues, international recognition, and being on the road, to come visit us and present their work in America.â
Never underestimate an engineerâs ability to dominate a game of pong. Itâs all about angles, force and surface area - and weâve got that on lock down.Â

Despite being a craft dating back over 30,000 years, fiber work only started to get sculpturally experimental in a serious way in the 1960s and 70s.

Holy Mackinaw!Â
Itâs not every day you wander the stacks of Special Collections to discover a 1960 edition of Call of the Wild by Jack LondonâŚbound in a lovely cover made of green, plaid, wool mackinaw. Â
Mackinaw is a material that was made known by American loggers, and is a staple of the true outdoorsman.  In fact, in Alex Kershawâs biography of Jack London, he mentions the famous author wearing the very material which makes this book so distinct. Â
"âŚhe sat in silence one night, a confused blur of cap, mackinaw (coat), and moccasins" (69).
So if youâre looking for a good book to keep you warm at night, this one might actually be able to (literally) do the job.Â

We have many different versions of Jack Londonâs classic here at the library, but none quite like this!
This is awesome. I wish all my books came with theme fabric covers.

I Dig This Track premiered another song from my forthcoming record process today.
With a nod to âold-schoolâ electronic acts such as AIR and Postal Service, Austin-based producer Christopher Norman brings us his latest single, âBideâ. When asked about the track, he told us, âI wrote it in my head one night while walking home from the bar. Know that feeling when youâre out with friends, and everyone is chatting and having a good time, but you still feel lonely? Thatâs âbideâ. For me itâs about feeling like an outsider. Like youâre watching the world from your own little corner.â The sense of loneliness and longing certainly comes through in this track, which takes the listener on a journey through itâs haunting vocals, synthy beats, and evocative lyrics.
This song is amazing and you should all listen to it immediately and then go pre-order process.
