there are probably a billion and one reasons why i love pacific rim, and this character is definitely within the top five. i don’t really ever do fanart, but this sketch just sort of took off on its own. it’s also been sitting around in my folders since last fall, so…i’m just gonna casually pretend the delay was entirely intentional and in no way had anything to do with how many hours i’ve spent dreaming about being drift compatible with rinko kikuchi. nope. not at all.

So while it’s true that the Enterprise is not as big as people think, that goes double for the Falcon!

A good way of thinking about the relative size is by using a bridge comparison:

The Enterprise bridge has space for 11 people to work, as well as a significant amount of space between stations to move around comfortably:

Meanwhile the Falcon (beloved weed bus) has a cockpit that seats 4, with only 2 main operational stations, and zero floor space:

Serenity has a bridge more comparable to La Sirena - with 2 stations at the front and quite a bit of floor space.

But okay- I think the reason the show resonates so deeply with so many people, myself included, is that ultimately it is the deepest story about found family and love.

But not in the traditional sense. We have Quentin- a depressed, nerdy, suicidal absolute loser of a guy who not only is a (sort of failed) chosen one but gets into this group of other people who are all losers/ failed chosen ones who are also suffering in their own ways. All of them have a lot of trauma.

And they become friends. In every single timeline. Every time. And they work together on quests, for the beast, for Fillory, for the seven keys, for whatever has to get done.

But ultimately, fuck destiny and fuck their “jobs” and fuck the timelines they will each do anything and everything for each other in every timeline and in every circumstance. Killing actual fucking gods to save magic? Killing multiple gods brutally to save Eliot? Finding and creating magic no one even knew possible to bring one of their own back (like Alice).

Going to the literal ends of the fucking earth for each other every single time. Just because. Just because they’re family, they’re friends, they’re lovers they’re the only group of people who at the end of the day give a fuck about each other.

No one else really cares about them in the grand scheme of things outside of what they were capable of helping people with- but they do.

They’re a bunch of losers so dedicated to each other that in every timeline and in every universe they are willing to do anything at all- as long as it’s for one of their own.

It’s devotion and love in the purest form and it’s something I find really captivating and moving and entertaining to see.

Josh Johnson absolutely nailed it. MAGA Republicans scream “fiscal responsibility” for everyone else, then stay silent while Trump burns taxpayer money in broad daylight. The hypocrisy is impossible to ignore.

First of all, no question is stupid if you want to know the answer. Second of all, asking when you're worried about looking stupid is a very brave thing to do. Third of all, you won't be alone in wondering this, and I'll thank you on behalf of the other folks who wanted to know the same thing but didn't know who or how to ask 💗

From my perspective, there is no time limit on joy. There are no chronological bounds on love or appreciation. If you feel it and want to share it, that option is always open to you. The odds are very much in favour of you making that author's day no matter what.

I've had this type of comment on the very same day I published a chapter. I've had this type of comment years after posting. I've had this type of comment multiple times on the same fic from the same person over the span of years as they come back to reread it again and again.

Every. Single. Time. I'm awed and honoured and overjoyed and amazed and grateful. I'm simultaneously built up and humbled. When I talk about that feeling of connection and community that can come when people reach out to each other sincerely, this is an example of the type of thing I mean.
