she wants to say that they can challenge it, that they ought to rise up and speak out against the clave. but she has to wonder if it’s not like challenging an alpha, you risk being ousted or worse... “has ben said anything about getting him out ??” the wolf sighs, raising a brow. she couldn’t imagine her friend would be willing to sit around and accept this.

“oh c'mon, skippy.” lukas glanced at his friend before he let out a sigh, not that there was much to say. “fine. what about it? or should i say, what about him?”
“what the hell happened ??” she huffs. getting lukas to talk about his feelings was like getting blood out of a stone. “one minute you were all goo-goo eyes, the next minute you’re all marshmallow from frozen.”

ares moves to nudge his glass towards her, but then he spots the spiderweb fractures beneath where he holds it and he freezes. not again. the raven haired seelie tugs the glass towards him, trying to keep the damaged glass out of sight as he smiles awkwardly.
“ no . no . it’s fine . it’s cool . it’s coolit’scoolit’scoolit’scool . i’m just new in town - adapting y’know ? “
it seems as though he’s about to pass the glass to her, when suddenly he draws it closer to himself. it’s a bizarre move, especially given it’s practically empty, but some people could be precious about the last drops of their drink. she leans against the side of the booth, arms folded loosely across her chest. “figured i hadn’t seen you around here before.” rory chuckles, wry smile toying on her lips. “what brings you to wilshire ??”

the shadowhunter pulled a face, he knew what she was referring to but that didn’t mean he really wanted to acknowledge it. “what? since when elephants are shaped like werewolf? plus i only see you in the room, mmh.”
“i’ll take that as not talking about it.” she rolls her eyes, shaking her head. “but you know i’ll just ask him if you don’t.”

he’s tucked away in a corner of the bar, head hung low. the seelie is more active today, pounding in the back of his mind against invisible restraints. ares breathes deep, forcing himself to stay calm. the seelie isn’t at all happy about their move to wilshire. it longs to go back to miami, where it’d been let loose with bloody smiles and bruised fists. ares takes another breath. in. stay calm.out. this is my body. in. not yours. out. you can’t have it. in. you can’t have me.out. his silent cycle is broken by a figure standing over him and he looks up as the seelie in his mind gives a defiant snarl.
“ i’m sorry - can i help you ? “
dark brow raises above hazel irises, gaze watching the male with curiosity. there's a weariness in his expression as if the words he has spoken have taken great effort. "just wondered if you're done with your glass-" the wolf tips her head towards the tumbler on the table. "you okay ??" he doesn't smell okay. his scent radiates panic, stress, and underneath it something else. rage. it doesn't belong. too bittersweet, too cloying. seelie. but not quite right.

she leans in as he presents his phone, squinting to watch the young shadowhunter ride around on the hood of the car. “remind me how you’re still alive ??” the wolf snorts incredulously. “I mean I know you’d survive falling off that thing but I’m surprised the head let you live.”
“ millennial z dude . i’m only ever dead on the inside . “
he tucks his phone back into his pocket, pushing his chair back until it balances on two legs. everett rocks on it childishly before laughing at her question.
“ actually the head quit after that . i think we may have traumatised him after that . “
"I thought that was the vamps." rory teases, leaning against the counter. if he teeters any closer to the floor, he might just fall off. she's not sure if she'll be laughing too hard to help him up. "if he doesn't have the stomach for a teenager riding his hood, I don't know how he was any good at demon hunting."

he grins impishly, pulling out his phone so he can draw up the video. it’s shaky when it starts, clearly taken by one of his friends and showcases a very naked and very tipsy everett clinging to the head’s car whilst it drives in constant circles.
“ it’s strangely hard to stay on a car when you’re smothered in whipped cream . “

a swell of gratitude rises in her chest at the surprising forgiveness offered by the other wolf. whilst she hadn’t been directly hurtful to raven, the distance she had forced between them had its own sting. to have her brush it aside, accept the apology, was an important step in making amends. “you’re staying ??” she repeats, smile brightening. “ben’ll be happy then.” although perhaps less so given how things were in wilshire. “i clock off for a break in fifteen. how about i get you another drink and we can catch up ??”
It was that sensation of safe that Raven had pushed down for a long time brought back in the bright smile from Rory that made her nod a little over enthusiastically, shrugging her shoulders at the mention of her brother, “Ben has other things to think about than where I am and what I’m doing, sometimes I wonder if he would even notice.” She nodded again, smiling at the mention of work, another thing she hadn’t thought of before the other had taken her time to make amends, “Sounds good, you can explain to me how this place works too, since I’ll be working here too as of next week.”
her brow furrows at that, smile dimming briefly. did raven really not know how important she was to her brother ?? "he'd notice. he just trusts you, that's all." the grin is back on her face at the other wolf's words, nodding enthusiastically. "you're gonna work here ?? good. we could use somebody else that won't take any shit."
