Time to show internet my media magnus opus
One of the many amazing parts of reading The Left Hand of Darkness, is how carefully Ursula manages to paint in my head the natural and landscapes of Gethen, to the point i felt obliged to draw the planet itself.
Learn the differences

Did anything in particular inspire Celeste's color palette? Or her design in general for that matter.
(I really hope you feel better soon. 💜)
honestly her design happened because i was just fucking around with grox in the editor and was like. "yeah. good enough".
celeste originally spawned from me playing as a "good" version of the grox empire with a blue and white color palette, and i became really attached to that save. the captain's name was, of course, Celeste. i was like 12 so i guess the blue and white was the way i indicated they were the "good" ones lol.
to be fair the initial design for celeste did also have wings (which i brought back) and antlers for some fucking reason. i don't know what 12 year old me was doing

thanks for reading (suggestions not accepted
recently my friend's comics professor told her that it's acceptable to use gen AI for script-writing but not for art, since a machine can't generate meaningful artistic work. meanwhile, my sister's screenwriting professor said that they can use gen AI for concept art and visualization, but that it won't be able to generate a script that's any good. and at my job, it seems like each department says that AI can be useful in every field except the one that they know best.
It's only ever the jobs we're unfamiliar with that we assume can be replaced with automation. The more attuned we are with certain processes, crafts, and occupations, the more we realize that gen AI will never be able to provide a suitable replacement. The case for its existence lies on our ignorance of the work and skill required to do everything we don't.
Thrive is an open-source videogame that simulates evolution on an alien planet from the origin of life onward, combining Spore-style player-guided design with autonomous mutation and selection. If you liked any word in the previous sentence, please check it out! Mind that its development is… somewhat slow – as things are now, you are not getting past one-celled life yet – but it has made some very real and concrete progress over the last years and, who knows?, by the next geological period it might be complete.
The video here details the fundamental concept, the present state, and the history of Thrive by one of its main developers.
Actually you know what, I’ll reblog this anyway.
BTW, there’s now a functional prototype of an early multicellular stage, and even land-dwelling technology-using stages are entering development
Early prototype gameplay of the post-unicellular stages!
Against all reasonableness, the cellular stage is officially complete (Thrive 1.0), and multicellularity is now the development priority
And adding to all of that, they actually plan to *finish* multicellular by 2027!
It is always nice to see thrive being talked about outside the community
i'm going to argue that chronically online and chronically on phone are two different things actually. the phone internet is different from the real internet and companies are trying desperately to make the real internet more like the phone internet... and they're sadly succeeding. hope this makes sense and if it doesn't oh well

"X was not on my 2025 bingo card" what even *IS* on this bingo card?
Two drawings i made for a art contest one.
Anna's archive is like a very anarchist punk girl that torrented the house she lives with her girlfriend, Internet archive, that enjoys watching dark academia playlists and has a hyper fixation with libraries, but she is so traumatized with people trying to take everything from her that she is very reluctant when anna's archive seeds the entirety of Elsevier
how i feel after downloading a neat furry drawing i saw on reddit and putting it in my furry drawings folder (one day the AI bubble will pop and the entirety of social media will collapse and nobody but me will have that one neat drawing again for the future generations):
What if there were a nuclear war and all countries launched their ICBM at each other and it turned out that every single warhead on Earth was secretly a blank because the value of nuclear weapons is in deterrence and once that fails there really isn't much point in blowing up all cities and so nothing at all happened
i think about this all of the time imagine if nuclear war starts and it turns out 60s moribund tech don't works anymore in the 21th century so we have a tsar bomb laying intact in the garden of the white house so yeha
